I received a fake from Amazon last year (3rd party fulfilled by Amazon). I returned it, was refunded, and went to B&H online.

Software & Accessories / Re: sRGB vs Adobe RGB
« on: March 19, 2012, 11:43:10 AM »
well this topic is not all that straight forward as there are 3 distinct  parts

1. what you shoot
2. what you process
3. what you deliver

1. WHAT YOU SHOOT

if you are shooting in raw the setting in camera sRGB or Adobe RGB has no relevence this setting affects the in camera JPEG only

If you are shooting in JPG you are far better off shooting in sRGB as it will be more universally correct for MOST printers and all web applications.

General rule here is in camera leave it in sRGB unless its aspecific client request. the setting doesnt effect RAW

WHAT I DO:
I shoot RAW and sRGB small or medium jpg files that way i can dump out the jpgs for someone to view or make a selection from quickly and use the RAW files for editing

2. WHAT YOU PROCESS

This is related to the colour space you processing applications use for example lightroom processes in prophoto RGB by default so it uses the full extent of the RAW information, you can configure you working space to whichever format you like but its best to do all processing on RAW files in the best available colour space.

WHAT I DO:
I leave the processing settings in lightroom and photoshop in prophoto RGB since i only process RAW and output sRGB Jpegs

3. WHAT YOU DELIVER

This is the colour space relating to the output, all output for web needs to be in sRGB so if you are outputing for this purpose you will need to convert you processed images to sRGB for delivery

Printing, Generally sRGB is correct for most printers unless you are printing to a calibrated setup with Adobe RGB or get a specific client request for Adobe RGB you are still best outputting your JPGs to sRGB

WHAT I DO:
I convert all processed deliverables to sRGB jpg files at maximum quality

That's about the most simplified expanation I could come up with

This is interesting. I did not know that it was for in-camera jpegs only.
I shoot raw. I use Prophoto in LR and PS. I export to the lab and web using sRGB.
I had no idea that the colorspace in camera did not matter if you were using the raw format.

Thanks for the info.

I use adobe rgb and the prophoto color space in LR and PS. I wait until the end of the workflow to convert to sRGB.
I am just curious what others are doing.
Thanks guys.

Which do you use, AND, why?

And what color space do you use in LR/PS from there?

Just curious to see some reasoning and who is doing what.

Thanks.

Amazon has updated the status of my order to "Shipping Soon", even though I haven't been notified of my estimated shipping date.  My other pre-orders all list as "Not Yet Shipped" (including my Diablo III preorder :) ).  That must mean something.

For reference, I preordered late on March 4th.

Nice!
Body or Kit?

Body.

I also spoke to a local retailer today (Hunt's Camera in Providence, RI) and he said that they're getting 30 Bodies in on the 22nd, as well as 60 kits.  They had 160 Body pre-orders and only 40 Kit pre-orders, so he told me that if Amazon doesn't come through that they'd have a number of kits available immediately.

Sounds like gettings kits is going to be a lot easier.

Interesting. I wonder why yours is shipping soon and mine, body only as well, ordered on the 2nd, is not.
Fulfilled by Amazon?

Awesome news! Thanks for that. One more question, I'd rather play with my new iPad than deal with amazon right now, what time did you place your order? I ordered at 2:30am CST and just knowing relative to your order where mine is will more than suffice.

Mine was syncing at the time. :)  The display, even with all the hype about how nice it is, is unreal. I'm impressed.

As for the order time...that is a funny thing. I just went to see what time I received the email confirmation from Amazon, and, the email time is 2:31:19 AM CST on March 2nd.

Thanks again for the info. Looks like I was just under 2 minutes behind you so I'll be expecting my camera next week, too! 2:33:02 AM CST
I'm pretty impressed with the new screen on this thing, the one downside I forgot to consider, however, is that now pictures synced with it are larger. My photos ballooned from 4.5GB to just over 8GB!

Crazy. I use the publish services feature in LR and sync to a folder. I think I need to update the settings to roughly 260 PPI now to take full advantage of the display.

For those with Amazon orders, here is the link to talk with Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?ie=UTF8&nodeId=518316

The contact button is on the bottom right portion of the screen. Select your order and select other twice and ask for a call.
Hopefully you get the same info I did.

Kit or body?

Body.

I had previously emailed Amazon asking about the expected delivery date. I did not get anything concrete and then decided to use the 'call' feature on their site (which actually calls your phone and then calls Amazon).
I explained to the Amazon service representative that I was wondering if I should cancel my order with Amazon and place one with a vendor like B&H as people with other vendors have been receiving shipping notifications. I was then placed on hold for a while and when the rep came back, he told me that the camera will ship on the 19th and that it will arrive on the 20th. I asked him why the site did not say this and he said it was relatively recent info and that the site had not yet been updated.

First post here.

1. How do I change the local time? I do not see the option in preferences.
2. I just got off the phone with Amazon. Long story short, I was told that the 5DM3 that I preordered on March 2nd was scheduled to ship on March 19th and arrive on March 20th.
