I have the nex 6 and its pretty good. Iq in the raws gives you a lot to work with. Also very small and evf. I checked the 3n and it was ok but more to give dslr quality in your pocket where you would not need an evf or the phase detect af.

The flash however is way to harse. Definetly can blow out highlights way to easily

The sl1 felt really tiny. Its still thick as a rebel so since there are no pancake primes it makes it a hard decision to sell over the other ilc offerings since they are truly smaller. The sl1 seems like the eos m just canon testing the waters so the revision 2 would be the true release if there is one. Think canon g1x. Where did that go?

Yes to my knowledge. I am in the copier industry. Rgb color space will never match the limited cmyk. You have to go with the full version to match up the correct colors. I would ask for a proof so you can make your adjustments as necessary.

I've got both of these flashes with 5d II and have visited Disney a lot.

The 270ex II is really light and portable.  You can keep it on your camera all the time as it's super small and not too bulky for getting on and off all the rides.  It's a great little fill flash, and would do an o.k. job with a 2.8 lens.  The high speed synch has to be enabled through an in camera menu so that's a little bit fiddly.  Also, it blast short bursts of light in stead of infra red to achieve focus in the dark. It's annoying. That feature can be disabled in camera but then you have no focus assit in the dark.

The 430ex II is probably the sweet spot between size and functionality.  It has more bounce options, stronger power to overcome the noon day sun, easier access to control flash features like high speed synch.  If you've got little girls and are planning to do a lot of portrait with the princess characters, then this is your flash. it also has a proper IR beam to help you achieve focus in the dark.

If  was going today I would probably bring te 270 ex II to Disney because I have lots of good Disney shots and Disney is more fun when you pack light.  If it was my first time though, I'd bring the 430 II with a stophen so I did not miss any moments.

Lastly - if your not on the 5dc and shoot a lot of video - you may want to check out 320ex for the video light. I've not experience with this flash.

Hope this helps,

Ian.

Thanks.

Thats where im stuck disney with 270 that is lighter and can stay on the camera longer or 430 that might help for bibbity and noon character greetings. Have a lot of great shots but this is my first full frame trip so don't want to regret it. If I get the 270 will probably grab the 40mm for a light day here and there. Also it will be the 4th of july so hot and not sure if too much gear will be too heavy. I am bringing a lowe pro 350aw but was going to try and find something smaller to alternate days.

Flash shooting directly at your subject is awful, and bouncing light from above gives racoon eyes.  Get the 430 ex and bounce the light from side walls and you will be much happier with the results.  Much happier.

See the thing about bouncing it is hard since some of the shots are in wide open areas like a restaurant or indoor character shots at disney where they are not near a wall and your limited. I am going to a crowded disney for the 4th and any flash would be fine since its just the kids and mickey or whatever. I would love to bring my 600 and spend thh money on another but the 270 seems to offer a small travel flash that will give light for a quick candid. Still considering the 430. Now if canon put out a 430 with rt by then I would have just grabbed one of them.

Update on Sigma 35mm. I took it in locally and they saw I was AFMA to +10 and they actually put it at about +15 internally so my camera is spot on and I am at 0 in camera. That makes this lens that much sweeter. Glad I took it in. If you buy a Sigma and it seems off send it in is my advise.

Lighting / 270 ex ii or 430 exii for vacation

I am going to disney with my 5d. I have a 600 ex and want a lighter speedlite for portraits on the trip. Just torn because the 270 is small and seems like it will cover with my 24-70 ii. I do like the extra power of the 430 for fighting the outdoor lighting also but double the batteries and much larger. Anyone use the 270 in a similar situation and was happy or should i just lug the 430?

Lenses / Re: canon 5d mk3 what lens ?

I want to get a 24-105 for travel again for my 5d3. Once you shoot with the 24-70 ii. Everything just does not seem as sharp and the colors are amazing. Is is great but you cannot open up that extra stop like the 24-70. I had the 60d with 15-85 efs then 17-55 efs 2.8 then 5d3 with 24-105 but once i got the 24-70 you feel everything else is just not as good. Just my 2 cents.

Yeah i returned it and afterusing it. I felt getting the 70-300l was something I knew i could use. I go on a lot of trips where I could use the reach and while slower than my 70-200 2.8. I think it offers the lighter travel lens that i was looking for but still retaining good IQ. It just felt odd buying the same focal length but both will serve their purpose. Thanks again for everyone's input.

I am going this summer.

I am bringing 24-70 ii
Sigma 35mm
70-300l only because there is a show i want to grab that will be eventually torn down.
I would bring the 24-105 if I still owned it.

It will cover all your daylight shots and the 35/40 or 50 prime will be good for night or rides.
I would bring a 270 or 430 for flash. I personally feel the 270 is more than enough but your choice.
Look for iso5571 on itunes. A podcast all about disney photography. I am returning my 16-35 bc I thought it would be good for wdw but all my past trips there were none I could find that would require wider than 24mm but your style may differ.

Follow up. I spent the weekend looking at different uwa perspectives and it just is not my cup of tea right now. I definetly am going for more reach and some other things I need like a good tripod and remote trigger.

This is a shot of my cat trying to find a use. It is nice but as a previous post said. I think I am a 24mm and above guy. I just like the 24-300mm range. So maybe a 100mm Macro or the 70-300l for vacations is in my future. Either way I am just not feeling very inspired. I will return it and take a long look at do I even need anything right now. I can say I rented an 1.4 extender and did like the extra 80mm reach. So maybe that 70-300mm l is my calling for outdoors summer shots with the kids and also wildlife even though 300mm for birds is nothing.

Kkc...I deleted my post.  You're right, it's not my place to tell you how to spend your money or even give an opinion on that subject.  I was very much out of line.   I'm sorry.

Fwiw...A small and light travel camera is a great option for Disney when traveling with young kids....IMO.

Thanks no hard feelings. I understand e eryone will have their opinion that I did ask for.

Fwiw I don't usually listen to folks who tell me how to spend my money, especially those behind a computer. If you got it who am I (or we) to tell you how to spend it. If it makes you happy so be it. That being said I think you're chasing happiness in your photography and while new shiny toys isn't a bad way to go about it, I think you've reached the point where you've realized that's not entirely true. Get out and shoot, and when your tired shoot some more. I think once your skills start to refine themselves you'll get back to appreciating what you have.
Thanks thats a fair statement. I have been and looking at past pics and making a shot and gear list for this trip which is why the whole uwa came up. It is returnable. Just don't want to return it to buy it later.
