PowerShot Cameras / Re: Where is Canon's X100s?
« on: May 08, 2013, 09:17:34 PM »
Seeing as it is a self-contained system (no changeable lenses to by into, etc) why not just buy the Fuji x100s? Waiting for a Canon when the Fuji is already so good doesn't seem to make sense when having a Canon wouldn't be aided by or improve your current system.

Unless you were asking why Canon isn't making something as good purely out of curiosity.

First, the corporate portrait. That is as perfect a headshot as I've ever seen -- and exactly the kind of perfection I'd expect to see from Canon. Imagine being the photographer charged with doing their management headshots!
I downloaded the file and notice that all the metadata was stripped from the photo.

I wonder what camera was used to take it?

I have been to South Africa a couple of times before and will be there again in April.

I can tell you that a lot of Safari tours happen early in the morning to try and catch the animals and you will be glad of the better high ISOs from the 5DIII.

I found that while I was there I wanted to make the most of my days and was shooting early in the mornings through to late at night. The middle of the day usually didn't make much of a difference (unless I was shooting indoors in the villages - could get quite dark in there), but my 5DII made quite a difference for many of the shots I ended up loving from dawn or after twilight.

Lighting / Re: My first Studio!! Einsteins or Bowens??

Another very pleased PCB Einstein customer here!

I really love my lights, battery packs and all the mods I've used by them.

I haven't used Bowens other than a quick look at them before I knew much about how to use lights so I can't comment.

To be fair, he said that it was the best for him and that you should go back to look over their results to see which is best to you.

Wow, that guys jacket and pants are covered with Moire.
It looks like the anti-alising filter is missing.
I'd send it back for repair both lens and body.
If this is true, don't send it back. Sell it on eBay as the new Canon 1DxE for $1000 over the normal price!

;)

High MP will trickle down eventually. Canon will put it in the top end first to make money from people who can afford the price but can't afford to wait. Then it'll trickle down to a roughly $3500 camera after a while.

Lenses / Re: New Wide Angle Zoom Discussion & Opinion

Can anyone explain to me if it is possible or desirable to create a UWA like a 14-24mm with a drop in filter system like the superteles. Why? Why not?

If the front elements are to bulbous to fit a filter just as the front elements on superteles are just simply too large then why don't they have this?

It looks like it could be promising but I will reserve judgement until anyone can actually review a copy of one. So far since they announced it Microsoft has been completely hands-off for journalists except for powered-off models so it looks like they are still working on it and ironing stuff out but felt they had to announce early.

Hopefully it won't turn into Microsoft's own 1Dx or supertele delay fiasco with a never ending gap between announcement and anyone actually seeing it working.

OK, that freakishly looks like a friend of mine, also called Chris (whose last name also starts with Law...).
Last I checked though, he didn't have any camera equipment nor interest (nor a good looking forest around these parts)

@Neuro, what's the DOF on that photo? Looks very thin to me...

Here is a photo where you can see my face a bit more. Although I am looking a tad serious in this one.

So, the question is... am I your friend? ;)

Abstract / Accidental Selective Colours
« on: July 24, 2012, 02:29:16 PM »
First, I want to put out there that I really don't like selectively coloured photos. Way too cheesy for me. But this weekend I was doing a weird experiment which went wrong but turned out kind of cool.

I'd like to say here that there was no post-processing done to these photos other than adding sharpness to the RAW and a slight curve adjustment before exporting to JPEG. No saturation or colour adjustments at all.

I was trying to play with altering colour temperatures in camera alongside gelled flash to achieve crazy background colours while keeping portraits looking normal. Well, I over powered it a bit and realised I could blow the colour right out of the photos leaving them black & white! So I took a few documentary style shots like that and created a natural vignettes by zooming the flash.

Not something I would ever use professionally but a fun little accident none-the-less.

United Kingdom & Ireland / Best for Rental in the UK?
« on: July 04, 2012, 12:31:45 PM »
Where do you go for rentals in the UK?

I'm just starting to break into interior and architectural photography and will need to rent some TS-E lenses for some jobs coming up.

I'm in Otterbourne near Eastleigh and Southampton. I'm here over the summer but off in California during the year.
