EOS Bodies / Re: Canon 5D MarkIII & 1Dx - 1080p/60fps???
« on: April 22, 2012, 02:53:39 AM »
I think the issue is it seems like 5d3 has got the hardware to do 1080p @60fps but for some reason i.e. intentional or otherwise canon chose not to implement it. I don't see how having additional video features would harm a stills photographer.
The only justification i could see is if adding 1080p/60fps is gonna significantly cost more then that will definitely hurt sales of 5d3 particularly those guys who are interested in stills only may not upgrade. Alternatively, Canon is obviously protecting it's other lines of products.

More and more and more superb reviews about the 5D mark iii are becoming available.
Very very good user experiences also.

But these are all users who own the camera and use the camera.

I am really sick and tired over these DXO numbers, price to high , sensor not good , Canon is a shame, etc.

Buy the 5D or not.
I am really interested in the portfolio of all the complainers , so that I can see why the 5D mark iii is not good enough and why Canon is a shame.

There is so much more to an improvement over the mark II then only the sensor and the BS DXO numbers.

+1 Amen!

We need not go any further than CR forum. People are quietly posting away great pictures (and video) while some are going out of their way in proving 5d3 (sensor etc) is crap. btw, if guys are churning out great photos with their 'crap' 5d3 then they must be brilliant photogs and they can do magic with ANY camera.
There are issues with 5d3, agreed (like every other camera that came before it), but i am more than happy with mine! yeah baby!!

Lenses / Re: Blank slate 5D3 lens lineup help

I'd buy the camera with kit lens and hold off on anything more until you see how you like it and see what you are missing.

I was in the same situation and i did exactly as Mt. Spokane has suggested. Right now, i am also considering the Tokina 16-28  for wide angle (the canon 16 35 II is outta my budget). Any feedback on this lens is much appreciated.
I will be choosing between Tokina 16-28 or the Canon 17 - 40.

It's funny how all the reviews compare D800 and 5D3 by taking photos with a 50mm and zooming like 1,000,000% to show d800's superiority. Well there will be occasions when 36mp will help in cropping but if one wants to take photos of a BIF / human eye just use a longer lens. If you use a 50mm (argument sake, number 50 is not that important here) and crop all the time to get your composition right then isn't something wrong with your thinking?

Just a thought.

the B/W version looks beautiful..

No, it's not.  It's just that the completely random noise in both shots happens to match up perfectly.  It's like that one monkey with a typewriter among an infinite number of them that just happens to bang out the complete works of Shakespeare.   :P

Actually it is, they're both "7Diso3200c.jpg", there is no "5d3iso3200c.jpg"  :-)

Silly me, did I forget the <sarcasm> tags?   :P

Well Spotted sir..

The rok 14 is nice and light for steadicam use. And a great field of view that worked really well on those rock faces.  The color and contrast out of it is not instantly world class but it's terrific to have in the bag. Amazing sharpness certainly.

thanks peederj.
I don't expect it to be as good as canon's. Might pick up the rokinon to get me going.

coming from 7d i too think 6fps is somewhat under-powered for sports esp. But the af kicks some serious bu$$! :)

After seeing your photos, i guess , 6fps is still pretty good.

i doubt if there would be a 5D3 type mayhem in the near future (With all due respect to guys looking for other upgrades).  People (including me) went crazy this past month. :)

looks fantastic!

what percentage of shots were missed (oof)?

Nice. Congrats on your 5D3 purchase :)

Appreciate if you could answer couple of my questions.

did you use Glidecam with vest support or was it just 4000 Pro? some of the shots are really smooth.

what is your take on Samyang/Rokinon 14mm (my usage will be 70% video and 30% photo).

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Strange sound inside 5D III (?)
« on: March 31, 2012, 09:56:51 AM »
ok. So i too hear similar sound coming from the body. BUT when the IS on 24-105 is turned off i don't hear the sound. I used to be there on my 7d as well. As of now i am not worried. As somebody pointed out it is just the IS cranking inside..

Even otherwise, i hope the ventilator does its job in keeping the internal electronics from melting..

EOS Bodies / Re: 5D Mk III Owners - are you happy?

I got mine yesterday!
So far I'm stoked by 5d3's capabilities - this coming from a 7d user.
It's more than a camera I'll ever need. Phew!!
