EOS Bodies / Re: More Images of the Canon EOS 5DS & 5DS R

Shame not including the new AF selector of the 7D-II. Also it will be best to put some indication of the camera name on the top plate to recognize it in a backpack with another 5D-III: they are identical.

Lenses / Re: 400 DO II continues to test out as superb

Back the the topic, I am more concerned with how the DO will render the image as a whole, including the background / OOF areas. This feedback will ultimately come from the field and until such time, I'm keeping my fingers crossed as to how this performs from a holistic viewpoint.

Also, what is of concern to me is how this lens will play with TCs - somehow I have a feeling that it won't be as great as the non-DO superteles.

You can find pictures with OOF areas and with teleconverters in my field test:

And I can say you that with teleconverters it works as good or better than my EF 500mm f:4L IS.

The lens can't be over 30 years old - that makes the year at least it was made before 1984 during the era of FD lenses. EF was born 1987.

The 50mm f:1.4 was born in 1993, 22 years ago:

No exposure compensation in AUTO ISO in M mode, like it was introduced in the last firmware of the 1DX  :(  I was waiting for that.

Weight of version I was without tripod mount (that was removable). Weight of version II is with tripod mount (That now is fixed).

Lenses / Canon EF 200-400mm f/4L IS Ext 1.4x review

Canon Spain lend me this beautiful and expensive lens for 3 weeks and I tested it against my 500mm f/4L IS and the 100-400 mm f/4.5-5.6L IS. With and without teleconverters.

I wrote a long test in my blog. It's in spanish, but you can translate it with Google Translate and there are plenty of images and a video.

I like how Canon has a middle finger up to all the 1D IV buyers, the 7D get's a major 2.0 firmware update
and 1D IV is still at 1.1.1

Granted the 1D IV works great but 1D IV was announced later than the 7D an now it is already discontinued
from production with no new improvements in the firmware.

If you ask Canon they probably won't admit 1D IV ever existed and laugh at whoever bought it.

Absolutely true.

How many firmwares we have seen for the 5D-II including improvements and new functionalities, and how few for this much more expensive and more professional camera...

Yes, Canon, yes, please!! :P

(Although in a very recent 1DX presentation a Canon rep told me that it's impossible to correct this issue in firmware).

PowerShot Cameras / Re: Canon PowerShot G1 X ISO Sample Images

The high ISO noise is really much better than the G12 and some of the other cameras compared, and solves the problem of the G series for street and indoors photography. Well done!

But I am really worried by the very bad optical quality of the Canon G1X lens at the edges. Download and compare the full image edges (the city map, for example) with the Panasonic GX1 or other cameras. The centre is perfect, crystal clear but the edges are blurry, clearly the worst.

EOS Bodies / Re: 1D X Limitations Fixable?

I need my EOS-1D autofocus with f8 lenses. I used all my EOS-1 with the 500/4 +2X with good results. As a professional nature photographer sometimes I need this range for rare wildlife.

Also exposure compensation with Auto ISO. Fix a shutter and an aperture, and have the exposure compensation dial work.

That's a shame: so many firmware with new functionalities and updates for that prosumer camera, and almost any for the professional and expensive 1D IV: the only EOS still without manual sound control.

That's the perfect lens for wildlife photography many of us have been waiting for years, looking with dispare at the Nikon 200-400mm f/4.

And NO, it's clearly NOT the replacement of the small and much cheaper Canon EF 100-400mm/4.5-5.6L. Nikon has both lenses in their range: the 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6 and the 200-400mm f/4. Both are for different users. I will buy the 200-400mm f/4!

The photo has a metal loop that I think is not a part of the lens, but rather a part of an anti-theft device (the one with a metal wire that has a lock on one side, and a big lump on the other side that wouldn't pass through the loop).

Thats the empty space to put the internal teleconverter when not in use, like the TV lenses.
