An order's been sent to the B&H warehouse today, so mine will ship out on Thursday for Friday arrival. They don't have any extra battery packs yet.

Oh well. The day's gone by and I haven't heard from B&H yet. Either they're too busy or they didn't get enough in their first shipment to cover my order.

I placed an order for mine at B&H the morning of 3/14 at 9:15 PST.
I just chatted with a B&H rep, and he told me that the shipment coming tomorrow may indeed cover my order, so the wait may finally be over for me.

mine is xxxx408xx. I ordered on the day when the preordering started, and probably 4 hours after it was open for preordering.
Seems like many orders came in between mine and yours, it's hard to tell. More digits for mine: 10198855xx.
I ordered mine around 9:15 am PST on March 14. Do you know what time the preorders started?

It's not the pros doing the reporting (the people who have tried them outside of tradeshows or Canon events have been quite mum about it all). I'm hoping it's just because they're pros and are too busy doing their work than talking about it.
What I see in the forums are nonpros mentioning that they've seen pros at events using 1D X bodies, and some with the newer lenses. I've also heard that they're hearing from people that that bodies have been going out to some pros in preparation for the Olympics and stuff.
I just hope this all means that we'll start getting them in June as Canon had last announced. The wait has been painful...as it has also been for the new lenses!!!

Yeah...what's up with Canon these days? In the past two years, I believe the only serious lens or body they've put out on time is the 5D III, and that was clearly announced when they were ready.
All the new L lenses (especially those super teles) have been delayed before release, and it's getting ridiculous. Nikon and Sony were hit harder by the catastrophes so I don't know what Canon's excuse is.
Realistically, people like us will just have to wait until the bodies get around to the pro photojournalists first (and those at the Olympics), which is what it sounds like happens before every one of these 1-series releases. Fortunately that seems to be what's actually happening when I look at the forums in Japan.
I hope they're fulfilling those needs as planned, and that the June 19 release was indeed meant for regular folks like us. Another delay would really annoy their already frustrated user base. It's just sad when a camera already feels like it's a year old when it arrives.

The crisper image may just be due to bigger sensels being easier on lenses. Anti-aliasing filters are designed for each sensor, so smaller sensel ones have "weaker" AA filters.

If Canon's still working on getting things right, that means the 1D X hasn't gone into production yet.
They talked about the initial production rate being 7,000 per month. I have no idea how many pros and Olympic photojournalists need to get it first, but this doesn't bode well for those of us who can only get the 1D X after those pros' needs are satisfied.

There's really no excuse for this. Canon has a very bad track record now of announcing stuff and taking forever to deliver.
The natural disasters hit Nikon and Sony harder, and yet they've been announcing more responsibly and delivering products on time.
I think the CPS priority only applies to platinum members. Gold member plebians like me have to get in the regular lines. All I've heard until this thread is that some platinum members got emails about ordering the 1D X, which implies that they'll get priority.

We know that Canon's been hit by the tsunami in Japan and floods in Thailand. But Nikon's been hit harder, and they still came out with their two new bodies, mostly on schedule.
Especially after giving such an early announcement so we could "plan ahead," I think Canon could be a bit more transparent for our sake.
Sure, they have all the right to keep silent. That's their choice. But with all the recent ridiculous delays in lens releases and this 1D X, this playing around with their customers plans and expectations is getting tedious.
I'm still going to wait...and hoping that it'll be a solid camera...

Either way, it's clear the 5D III is beating the D4 at every ISO, despite having more pixels.
Sure, this is only comparing image quality (yes, the D4 is meant for the sports pro/photojournalist), but I didn't expect this to be the result. It seems like Nikon got lazy (having been high ISO and sensitivity king for a while) and Canon actually leapfrogged. I was hoping they'd just catch up...but it seems like they did more.
And...the 1D X is supposed to be even better in image quality than the 5D III, which would make it the winner in a similar-body contest. Let's hope Canon actually delivers with the 1D X.
