EOS Bodies / Re: Any news on the 1D X?!
« on: March 21, 2012, 08:18:28 AM »
Well, we know it's delayed for "development reasons," but I get the feeling it's to fix a problem rather than packing in more or improving features.

Also they need time to ramp up production and amass stock before the release, so I'm sure all features must be baked-in by now.

Ironic that the first new FF that was announced is the last one out. Even the Nikon D4 is out already.

Even if it doesn't have any new features, I'm just hoping for it to work perfectly as described from the start.

EOS Bodies / Any news on the 1D X?!
« on: March 20, 2012, 10:47:44 PM »
It's almost a month from the supposed release, and Canon's been dead silent.

No rumors about what's been delaying it. There are no RAW samples yet, and the most I've heard about the release is one person mentioning on dpreview that B&H will get shipment on the 20th of April. When I asked B&H, the customer service rep said there's no such info...

Anyone hear anything about this camera?

The wait has been so long and is getting painful...

EOS Bodies / Re: No RC-6 love for 1 series bodies?

The text in that image is Chinese...  In any case, yeah, that also says "self timer lamp."   :'(

I really don't understand why Canon doesn't add this feature, as they did in their lower bodies. It's not even an issue of cost. I just don't want extra bulk for a feature that seems so obviously useful.

I use Canon's (also expensive) cable timer shutter release, and although it works well, the cable gets tangled in the tripod and is very inconvenient. The cable also doesn't help if you want to be in the shot and carefully time it. What's the big deal about adding this simple feature, Canon!?!?

Lenses / Voigtlander APO-macro 125mm
« on: March 20, 2012, 11:37:55 AM »
The Voigtlander APO-macro 125mm is a 1x macro, unlike the ZE 100mm makro-planar, which is only 0.5x.

It's expensive, and is out-of-production. I've seen it going for $2000-3500 on eBay.

I haven't done a shootout yet, but my feeling so far is that, although the ZE 100mm makro-planar may have a very slight sharpness and contrast advantage, the Voigtlander is way more apochromatic (doesn't have the nasty longitudial chromatic aberration), which I find is very important for making pretty macros.

EOS Bodies / Self timer lamp?
« on: March 20, 2012, 06:44:42 AM »
According to the diagram on Canon Japan's site, it's a "self timer lamp." The 7D diagram says it's an IR sensor. So they don't seem to be the same...

I was hoping to be able to use something smaller and cheaper than the LC-5. It's the one thing I don't understand about Canon's decision with the 1 series...

EOS Bodies / April 20 for B&H?
« on: March 19, 2012, 12:11:06 AM »
There's so little info about the release date... The most I've heard is someone mentioning on dpreview that B&H told them they'll get the 1D X shipment on April 20, so that hers will ship within a few days of that.

Hopefully the wait will come to an end soon, and there won't be any more delays. Canon's been struggling with product releases, and I read on a Japanese forum that even the Utsunomiya plant is having issues due to logistical ripples from the earthquake/tsunami.

EOS Bodies / Is this typical for a 1 series body?

I'm still in line for the 1D X, and have faith that it'll be good (counting on the fact that it's not just us, but also Canon that would like to avoid a 1D III-kind of fiasco).

But isn't it weird to be a month away from release (supposedly) and still not have any idea how the RAW output is? Canon must have started production for the release, so it's not like they can change things now.

Do they expect pros to buy on faith too? I've had good luck with Canon gear so far, but people need some reassurance, right?
