Hi! The 5D MKIII and 1D X that I have won't fire the flash in live view mode, is this a "feature" or I missed something?

Lenses / ND filter for EF 8-15
« on: April 25, 2013, 11:29:24 PM »
Hi! Does anyone used an ND on the read filter holder of the EF 8-15? Is there anything out there with good quality for this? I like very much what I can do with my Lee Big Stopper and would love to be able to do things like that with the 8-15 too...

Lenses / EF 600 f4 IS L II filter holder glass, what is?
« on: January 09, 2013, 11:30:55 PM »
Hi! I just got my 600, and I noticed that the filter holder it actually contains an installed glass, what is that glass for? Is an UV filter or something?

I guess the titles says it all, I'm ready for the new 600... What is the best head, support, foot?

I have a very good carbon monopod and carbon tripod, but I know the normal head will not cut it for this lens.. What would be the best?

Lenses / 500 x $10K or 600 x$13K

Hi! I have a hard time making my mind.... First, I'm not a pro, I do not make money with my photos, it's just something I do really enjoy and instead of spending my money on cars or bikes, I do on camera gear, I consider it less dangerous and the money can be recovered much easier by selling in case of need loosing less than when you sell a used car or bike.....

I for a looong time being thinking into get a long prime, a 500mm or a 600mm, it's a lot of money for a hobby, but I think I will enjoy it, and also have already a few repeated or overlapping focal lens glass that I will sell to help pay for the prime, like a Sigma 120-300 f2.8 (the last one) and also have the EF 70-200 f2.8 L II with the 1.4 and 2X extenders, so don't really need the Sigma, also have the 24-105 f4 L and got the 24-70 f2.8 L II and a few more that can go.....

So the thing I guess is, does the extra 100mm really worth the extra $3K on that lens? For what I was able to see, the difference in sharpness between the Canon 600 and the Sigma at 300mm with the 2X extender is abysmal, does anyone have a chance to compare these two first hand?

Am I crazy for wanting to have one of these lenses for a hobby use? Love birds, but the sort of crappy autofocus speed I'm getting with the Sigma and the 2X extender and the so so quality it's discouraging.

The bodies I have are 5D MKIII and 1D X

Lenses / 24-70 II is shipping from B&H
« on: September 12, 2012, 02:52:50 PM »
I ordered on March 20, and it says its in stock and sent to warehouse, so they must received a good number of those...  happy happy happy....

Hi! I have posted before that my 1D X came from factory really dirty and I didn't really wanted to send it to CPS since my experience with their cleanings is disastrous.

So I tested first the camera cleaning, NOTHING....  absolutely no difference at all.... nada... wondered what is that Canon bragged so much about it...

Lighting / Batteries for Canon EX 600 RT...
« on: August 30, 2012, 08:24:32 PM »
Hi! Which batteries are you using for your flashes? I used to use regular Energizer NiMH with a 15 minutes charger, they give a good 500 something fires with the 580 EXII, but the problem is they need to be charged the very same day you are going to use it. They lose they charge in just a few days. On the other hand, the Eneloop hold they charge for really long time but takes like a whole night to charge.

Wonder what are you all using....

Lenses / EF 70-200 f2.8 IS L USM MKII weird noise (attached)
« on: August 07, 2012, 08:06:56 PM »
Hi! My EF 70-200 f2.8 IS L USM MKII is making a weird noise since I started using it with the 1D X... I do not remember this "gear" noise in the past, just a faint whoosh... a lot lest than the MKI version. I sent it to the CPS service and they say there is nothing wrong and that the noise is normal....   I do not have another at hand to test, but I sent this sound file to my nephew who have the same (purchased both at the same time) and he says the noise of his is not even close to this one I have. Even my Sigma 120-300 that is twice as big makes less noise.

This noise is when it engages and release the IS not during.

I'll appreciate if you can download the file and listen and compare to yours.

I'm starting to wonder if Canon actually have any quality control before send cameras out.....  when I got my first 5D MKIII the sensor right out of the box was dirty... full of speckles... didn't come off with the camera sensor cleaning....  sent it back.... got another one....  also dirty... and with a little hair inside of the prism...

Now I get my 1D X ... also stuck speckles in the sensor that will not come off with the camera sensor cleaning...  I'm really disappointed in Canon...

Sent my 5D MKII to be cleaned, came back worst that I sent it.... sent it back.... came back a bit cleaner, but not as clean as I can do it at home.....  usually you don't see this kind of speckles in regular photos, but when you are making macros with a lens like MP-E 65.... any minimal speckle is a nasty black point...

Am I crazy thinking that a new camera should have a pristine sensor????

Trying to post this with an image but it does not work... :-(
