EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Why so much trust in DXO.
« on: April 20, 2012, 09:46:03 AM »
Isn't the best camera always the one on your hand at the right moment? All this crazy numbers are just that... Numbers, are not going to make the photographer any better or any richer, you are not going to sell a copy of your photo because was shot with the best sensor, I've seen amazing photos taken with disposable cameras that I wish I've taken with my state of the art equipment....

I undertstand you are spending good amount of money and want the best for it, me too... But isn't this going a bit too far? Just wondering where to draw the line between using a camera to express feelings as a form of art, or just being a technical obsessed photographer.

It's a great camera... I got an MKIII and sold my MKII and I'm sort of regretting selling it... Would love to have 2 bodies again and I might buy one again if Canon does not announce any big MP camera for next year.

As far as I know, renters insurance will not cover anything one you leave your home.

Moab makes great paper too. Slickrock photo paper is awesome.

I have a 9500 and a Pro 1... I always do 300. Out of curiosity tried 600 and saw no difference at all. Be sure to choose the right paper on the driver and if you use ICC profiles turn off the driver color management. These printers can do wonderful prints with good paper, and most of the manufacturers provide those profiles.

Insurance ...l your best friend.... Not that expensive, around $1.5 per $100 insured per year...(in the US)  Some time ago on an accident my 70-200 hit the flor on the front lens, no lens cap, ended as a big piece of paperweight..  Insurance paid for it...

It was a Friday night.... Awful weekend until I got to talk with an agent on Monday.

Technical Support / Re: Sensor cleaning technique that actually works?
« on: April 14, 2012, 06:14:55 PM »
I use sawbs and the solution. Send my camera to CPS twice. Never got a better clean that what I can do at home. In fact once came back pretty worse that what I sent.

I've sent my stuff to CPS a lot- never had issues.  They clean very well.  At least in the 10 or so check & cleans that I've had done.  I've also had repairs done- they'll clean it out at that point, too.

Yes CPS will accept the 60D.

I think they do for USA CPS, but not Europe.

They apologized and did it again for free (no coupon) but even when received the camera the second time, cleaned by the "senior" technician... Even if clean of dirt visible by the eye and a loupe for such task, when tested the camera with photo and photoshop and levels, there was traces of the cleaning solution still on the sensor. While this is not visible in regular photos, when you take photos with a lens like the MP-E 65, it's very visible and should be totally cleaned when when done by a professional. I'm not bothering anymore sending the camera in for regular sensor cleaning.

They did a great job cleaning the dirt that got inside of the pentaprism area, but for regular sensor cleaning, I really saw no difference what what I can do at home, in fact, I get better results with the swabs. And faster..   May be I have to try another CPS center.

A note on the side... When I received the 5D MKIII.. Brand new... Never used.. It was dirty.. Had some little hairs, like from a bad brush, and the sensor had a few speckles of dust.......   Got a second unit.... Also dirty....

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: 5DIII same ISO performance as 5DII
« on: April 14, 2012, 04:27:12 PM »
Does not look the same to me... The photos at 6400 of the 5D MKII where most of the time unusable. With the MKIII in getting photos at 12800 that looks equally or better than the MKII at 3200. I'm using Lightroom 4 and RAW. Never tried JPG

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon EOS 5D Mark III Product Advisory

My 5DIII does this, too, but I can't see when I'd be in shooting situation where it would be an issue. Perhaps there are situations where it would matter, but if Canon offers some kind of fix, I'm not going to bother sending the camera in.

Think this might affect the value when you try to sell it used...

I believe CPS discounts do not exist in the US... that must be the reason why they tell me there is no pre ordering for US members...

CPS members got firm CPS pricing this week and we were told by the canon reps (taken with a grain of salt) here that canon will fill CPS member orders first. There is no word from canon on another delay so i think what they are telling you is that Canon will have stock for non CPS by June.  As least thats my take on the situation after talking to CPS canada.

Just my 2 cents :)

is that in the US? Because I wrote to the CPS email and they tell me they don't know anything about CPS members having access to pre-order the camera.... not at least in the US...

Thanks

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: 5D3 at one week: a few surprises
« on: April 04, 2012, 01:45:50 PM »
You mean you don't get 6fps with that card after fill up the buffer? Because the 6fps should not depend in the fist set of photos on the memory card, all goes to the buffer in first place, so 6fps should work no matter which card you use. I tested with a very old card, taking burts photos of a digital chronographer and got exactly 6 fps. Even with a fast card I don't think you will get 6fps after filling the buffer with RAW... Unless of course you are talking about JPGs.....
