Just got the shipment notice from B&H for mine.  It was ordered on 4/11 at about 9:00 am Eastern time, and is JUST on the way.

Lucky!!! Order my first one 4/11 around 10:00 am Pacific Time. Hopefully we will get a shipment notice from B&H soon! Ordered the second one from Adorama on 4/19. Not really holding my breath for that one yet.

Lenses / Re: Canon 70-200 USM IS L (not Mark II)
« on: May 21, 2014, 10:53:18 AM »
The Mark 1 is a great lens. I personally would go for the new Tamron 70-200. It's gotten some great reviews and the image quality is much closer to the MKII Canon.

The 5D3  can shoot up to 30 Minutes at a time with the files split into 4GB files (these files playback continuously when linked together in editing). When you get to the end of a card the video stops. When you hit record again it will start recording on the next card. There are no heat issues with the sensor and recording more than 30 minutes unless you are in blistering hot sun (which you still can expect to not have issues). Magic Lantern has a work-around that will start recording again automatically after reaching the 30 Minute mark, but you do lose about a second or so of coverage.

I shoot a lot with my 5D3, always with magic lantern, and often longer than 30 Minutes. So this is from experience =)

I just called as well. They said 1 to 2 weeks...

I want my 50Art!!!! Where is it =(

EOS Bodies - For Video / Re: Is the C500 / C300 worth it anymore?

Keep in mind that there's a lot more to camera performance than just resolution and specs.
The C300 is still one of the most requested and used cameras out there right now. I haven't used the C500 so I can't speak to that one specifically, but I'll keep using my lowly C100 over a 4K BM or GH4. The C series gives the image I want without all the hassles.

I agree actually. The c100/300 has a beautiful image at 1080. Most people don't need 4K or raw anyway. And for any "reasonable" distance you can't tell 1080 from 4k on the TV.

Has anyone heard any updates ? It seems too quiet for a new release ;-)

Agreed, where are all the "I just received my new 50mm ART" comments. There are couple. Wonder when they will start to really ship.

I would definitely recommend the Tamron 24-70 f/2.8 VS or the Canon 24-70 f/2.8L v2

The IS (or VS) on the Tamron is a great feature for video and stills when your shooting at the long end. I've never had an issue with IS sound in-camera, but that may be also because I don't often use the audio form the camera.

The price difference alone might make the Tamron more worth it, and it is a great lens. But the Canon is unbeatable in sharpness and lack of distortion.

The compression on this video was pretty horrible. Standard 5D compressed footage is pretty soft, but I know that the 5D Raw would not be that soft looking if processed properly. Nonetheless, the Note3 is awesome camera phone video.

I agree. Keep all your canon glass as it will work on pretty much everything. For camera, it really depends on your needs, I wouldn't count on canon releasing anything jaw dropping anytime soon. Blackmagic is a good option, but don't forget about KineMINI!

I ordered 2

one from BH on 4/11 late morning. heard nothing so far.
and one from Adorama 4/19. also heard nothing

I want this thing so bad!! =D

Video & Movie / Yosemite - 5D mkIII w/ Magic Lanter Raw
« on: November 06, 2013, 07:57:31 AM »
I haven't posted any videos here for a while so I thought I'd share my latest.

I shot the entire video in ML Raw except for the areal footage which was shot on a GoPro 3 Black. I made the music as well. Hope you enjoy! Let me know what you think! (I know there is some jiggle in parts of the areal footage, my props were not balanced at the time of shooting)

5D MK III Sample Images / Re: Del Mar, California, Sunset

Like the last one. Even can read canon on the body

Thank you!

also, I dump the footage after the video is complete and the client is happy, so if i keep one 2TB hard drive on Thunderbolt or Esata then I should do pretty well with storage space shooting one house at a time.

Hey, just wondering, if since the BM 4K camera was announced, and also the BM Pocket Cinema camera.....have you reconsidered going BM and getting one of these cameras?

Just curious,

Yessir. I pre-ordered the pocket camera and will be using it with a Metabones Speed Booster and my Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8. I am also on the look out for a decent 1" c-mount super wide angle lens 5-7mm range.

Too Cool!!

PLEASE, do a post, maybe this thread, to give a report on how it all works, and of course, some footage.

I'm looking to go this route too.
I didn't think the Speed Booster was out yet, or was that just for Canon lenses it isn't out for?
I'm trying to learn the differences and what I would need for the BMPC....I am a bit of a noob, and only know what EF focal lengths are like..not sure how to relate them to the lenses for MFT lenses...etc.

The speed booster was announced, but is not available yet for MFT and Canon combo. Basically, if you have a FF canon camera and you adapt your lenses to the BMPCC, just multiply your lens "mm" by three. That how tight the lens will be. so a 100mm lens on a FF Canon camera is 100mm but on the pocket camera it would look like a 300mm. and with the speed booster is would look like a 200mm.

Now due to some very unexpected news, releases, and possibilities from magic lantern in the last week, my BMPCC is in danger of being cancelled. Magic Lantern has announced their ability of recording 24p continuos RAW video to CF cards on the 5D mkIII with likely no heat issues. If they get this stabilized, then I may be sticking to my 5D mkIII for my RE video work and canceling my black magic pre-order. We shall see what ML brings us. The way I see it, Magic Lantern has 2 months or so to polish up the raw video from 5d mkIII and win me back from Black Magic. I doubt there are any decent lenses sub $1K that would give me the quality I have with my 5d3 and bower 14mm. So to not have to invest further and just upgrade to better CF cards would be great!
