Abstract / Abstract Interiors

I was looking for a spot to place this so I created a new subject called Abstract Interiors.
This is the inside of a Hotel in Cork City Ireland shot with a Fisheye Lens.
It reminded me of something out of a Stanley Kubrick movie.

I was a bit bamboozled with the question.
Having read it I wondering with the camera with the higher dynamic range it could have if the dynamic range of the scene was wider gone two more stops but because its not required the extra dynamic range would be redundant therefore the cameras are equal for that scene.
The conclusions being if you own the lower dynamic range camera don't take high contrast scene or else you should have bought the camera with the higher dynamic range (which is probably more expensive) . This would lead to severe buyers regret and a need to sell the camera purchased at a loss. This would be sad

I use live view to focus. At 10x it's great to manually focus to the part you want in focus.
Everything from Macro, to Landscape, to portrait , to shooting the moon benefit from Live view.
If's it clear at 10X on Liveview it's very in focus.
I'd recommend using it.

Hi All,
HDR is like Marmite/Vegamite - you either love it or hate it.
Me - I'm a fan , I like it can do to a scene to make it pop .
I accept though that others don't like. I think it's pretty fair.
It can be overdone and doesn't suit everything.

Hi ,
I'm not an expert on shooting the moon.
It's a relatively small object compared to the width of the sky (although it's the largest object in the sky).
They recommend shooting at around F11.
If possible set the ISO to 100.
Shutter speed would want to be at least 1/125 ~  1/1250 as the moon is a moving object
Manual would be the way to go.
A steady tripod and a remote if you have it or the timer on your camera to steady the camera.
If you have mirror lockup, use this to stop and mirror slap shake.
You'd have to use your longest lens. 70-200mm at 200mm the moon wouldn't be very big.
You could bracket shots as well to get the best exposure +2,+1, -1,-2.

I tend to focus manually with Liveview (if your camera has it).

Any best of luck with it. I'm not an expert but I have tried.

I could be wrong but I don't think the EU would allow this in Europe. This is akin to price fixing and anti-competition.
I think it's good for the Grey Market. I find it interesting people talking about good service in a shop and that the higher price supports this. I think a physical shop finds it hard to compete with a warehouse operation.
I've never had to go back to a shop yet so I'm not sure what kind of advice they give out nowadays. Most can't fix anything and probably don't know much more than the customers - who judging by Canon Rumors are very well informed about the products.

I have a G12 and the lens is scratched. That's because the "doors" at the front don't protect properly and if you have it in your pocket and something leans against the door you get a scratch. A small scratch does impact (unlike large lens). It would cost alot to repair. The G1X at least has a cover.
The lens sticks out alot more on the G1X.
I'd go for the G1X if I was upgrading.

I have the Lee Filter System too. It's expensive and can be delayed in turning up (due to demand sometimes exceeding supply). It's great for graduated hard and soft filters 100 x 150mm. I can't help wondering though if screw in filters a better for the ungraduated neutral density filters. I'm almost afraid to use my 10 Stop in case I break it or crush it in my bag. A screw in is better protected whilst being stored and when on a lens. Glass Lee Filters don't bounce as I've learned to my cost.

I've never used the Sigma but my Canon is simply brilliant. I love using it wide open. It has great bokeh and produces beautiful shots on APS-C and full frame. It just gives me shots I can't do on any other lens. I'd give it a very strong endorsement.

This is what I like about Canon Rumors. You people out there have so much knowledge and if someone says something technically incorrect it can corrected immediately.
My personal experience is moving from 15MP up to 22MP.
Initially I thought I wasn't seeing much difference in resolution and was wondering was it all an illusion that higher MP was better. What I am learning as time go by is that full frame can give certain really nice aspects to the photo like in terms of depth of field. I can't recreate it on the APS-C sensor. When I go back and forth between the two cameras I start to notice the subtly better resolution.
I may be like alot of people in that you are always looking for more resolution, hoping the small guy way in the distance could actually be zoomed into and be recognised. You hope that a higher MP camera would provide you with this. There is possibly a diminishing return element in so as far as how good can it get.
File size is an issue with 22MP. Unless you upgrade your PC everything slows down. The uploading to PC, the processing and saving all takes longer. Storage becomes a more serious issue. 1 or 2TB Hard drives don't seem to big any more. In fairness to Nikon the D800 seems to be quite impressive but I think I would start to find that file size a little troublesome to deal with. You'd have to upgrade your PC and storage with it.
When the Canon 5d Mark IV comes out and its 48MP will I be tempted. No doubt the dream of greater resolution will tempt me but I will have to consider all the surrounding costs as well.
Master the 5D Mark III first I guess and see can I reach it's limits (like I did with the 500D/Rebel (something something)  - which is still a great camera) .
Keep up these great conversations. You lose me at times with the details technical specs of sensors and lens but it's very interesting

Here's another one. It's a very simple shot but I liked it myself when I took it (although it hurt my eyes - note to self don't point big lens at sun!)
