Pricewatch Deals / Re: 5D Mark II Body Price Drop at B&H
« on: July 09, 2012, 08:20:56 PM »
The $100 price drop is not worth it. Assuming the new entry level full frame to replace the 5D Mark II is priced the same, why not buy new technology over this camera that is starting to age.  I am making certain assumptions but I think it may pay to have a little more patience over the impending release of this rumored full frame.

EOS Bodies / What will a mirror less camera offer
« on: June 24, 2012, 01:32:57 AM »
I know nothing about mirror less other than the name implies.

I was wondering what they will offer in terms of picture quality or video quality.

Will they be better than the Rebel T4i or fall in between a point and shoot and a Rebel.  Or do we need the specs first?  I was just wondering what people expect that they may deliver and will a mirror less offer some advantages over the current technology?

Thank you for the post. A question I had was whether or not you could compensate for the slow focusing by just doing manual focusing which would probably defeat the purpose of the autofocus motor but would you recommend just using manual focus to get better results.

If you do a search on YouTube there is another video of somebody driving around with a car and it appears that the camera is mounted to the front dashboard of a car in an Asian country with this lens and the focusing is pretty slow as well.

Would it be your opinion that we will probably need a new iteration of this camera before we see a better focusing of this lens?

EOS Bodies - For Video / t4i - lack of samples
« on: June 22, 2012, 11:38:43 AM »
This camera has been out for a few weeks now and I am still on the fence.  I have found mainly a handful of sample videos, none of the particularly revealing or useful.  I am a Rebel Xsi owner who is impressed already with image quality so my sole criterion is how well the video stacks up.  I am waiting for better videos.  I have a couple lenses which is why I want to stick with Canon, but one is full frame and the other is the EF-S so it is not a large loss if I switch to a different system - I just want a video/still camera that does both well.  I have no upgraded in 4 years so I want to make sure the next purchase will do well for the next 4.  Is there anyone who has used the video and liked the quality of video?  I have yet to see a video with the 40 mmm stm in action.

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon Rebel T4i Review With Video Samples
« on: June 15, 2012, 04:37:38 PM »
the reviewer is playing around with fixed objects.  The camera was built for people like me with kids - he could not find any kids or dogs to vide so we could see AF work with moving objects?  What a poorly executed review video in my opinion.

I am in the market - I had an old Rebel without video.  I want video but not this quality video.  I gues I'll have to juggle multiple equipment to get my video and stills shots.  This is why I just reach for my iphone 4s.

Since the camera is shipping I'll wait for people to post their videos to vimeo or youtube and give it one more chance.  Still want to see unedited video with STM lenses capturing real world scenarios.

Who is Norman and why does he have a camera?

I just read the preview over at www.dpreview.com and saw the picture samples but was hoping to see a video sample.  I can't wait to see a sample video to be published to see the AF in action.

I am leaning towards pulling the trigger on my Rebel Xsi update.

I wish there was more information on the use of a 40mm pancake vs. the 18-135 stem lens.  I think the zoom lens is pretty expensive.   Will the 40 mm lens provide just limited applications?  Says will do good portraits and video so that seems to cover a nice range but no ability to zoom, etc.

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon EOS Rebel T4i/650D Full Specifications
« on: June 07, 2012, 01:27:10 PM »
i posted before but could not find it or any replies.

I have the Rebel XSI - I want video.  This will be a substantial improvement but I do not understand the critiques.  Seems majore one is the use of an old sensor.  I want to have new technology in my components especially as you can see it has been 4 years since my last purchase.  Should I wait for the 7DII since it appears it will have new components though more costly with additional features - I do not want to wait much longer beyond this late summer - other comments interpreting this spec list as a good deal or should I wait more? - Tom

I am interested in the T4i since I will be upgrading from the Rebel xsi (no video).  It sounds like the video AF feature is presumed to be lacking because if it worked so well why isn't it included in the $2000 more expensive Mark 5d3.  Also Nikon's complement to the t4i has AF video but no one is raving on about it.

Is shooting video with manual AF a big headache?  What about taking video of kids?

What happened to the rumors about wireless uploading of photos?  The Nikon has a dongle you attach for wireless transfer.

If you were in the same upgrade path and the camera is just for family and personal use - would you go for the t4i or wait for something better coming out soon?

EOS Bodies / Re: Lower Price Full Frame Camera [CR1]
« on: May 14, 2012, 07:10:55 PM »
Can someone tell me as a potential purchaser of the t4i when and if it comes out what benefits there would be to waiting for the entry level full frame - I don't understand what the advantages/disadvantages are to having a full frame vs. cropped frame other than some depth of focus differences if all other things are pretty much equal such as MP, autofocus, ISO range - in other words if I have two cameras with similar features eccept full frame vs. crop frame which camera would I want if my interests are hobbyist level and mostly shooting family, kids and sometimes landmarks or even nature - thanks, - Tom.

I am confused.  If the T4i is going to have slightly better ISO and FPS performance over the t3i and perhaps autofocus, if I am upgrading from a Rebel XT - should I go for the t4i or look higher up the line or should I be waiting to see what other cameras get upgraded.  In other words, should I wait or just get a different camera now?  I don't want to get a 7D if they are going to be upgrading that as well - I want better than XT but I also want to future proof my next purchase to a reasonable extent.

As owner of a Rebel XT, I think whatever is announced will be a big upgrade for me.  My issue is even when t4i is announced, is this the best choice?  Right now I am leaning to the Nikon 3200.  I would rather stay with Canon so I could keep my 2 lenses but Nikon's autofocus features and 24 MP sounds really good.  The current rumor seems to make the changes sound really incremental to me but maybe I don't know enough to appreciate the announcement.  It seems like for me the t3i focusing was really slow and most of the videos I see the camera is always trying to focus.  Of the crop sensor segment it is the most popular but I did not get a sense that it was being bought by serious hobbyists.  I am a casual user but would like to make sure my camera is a better investment that allows me to be creative with still and video but gives me room to grow with both features

Should I be looking at other cameras besides the upcoming t4i?

Thanks for sharing - would love to see a link to a sample video but I understand if you just wanted to post your impressions.

I was just going to ask the same thing - I think I may shoot for a higher model but I want to see what the t4i packs before I make an informed decision.

If the best/only rumor was that it would be announced a NAB then this site is not much better than a flip of the coin at this point since the big industry event was not used to make the announcement.   There are no other published rumors that I have seen that give any more of a precise time frame than that one.

Meanwhile, I might bite at a Mark II if prices were to drop since I have no other camera to shoot any video with at this point.

If what you says is true - the t4i would be a major disappointment for those waiting until the latest in technology came along.

We know the next Rebel is just around the corner so this is just another piece of the anticipation puzzle which does not reveal very much.

I would like the Mark II or III but think the Rebel may be too lacking - I wish there was something in the middle - I am interested in the rumor about an entry level full frame DSLR.

When will the discounting of the Mark II occur - seems like it is kept high to prevent cannabilization of the MArk III launch but at some point the older camera has to be discounted to entice more buyers.
