I'm looking to snag a BG-E11, but the big guys all seem to be sold out (Adorama, BH, Amazon, etc.).  There are a bunch of random shops that claim to have it in stock - but I've never dealt with any of them, and the majority seem to have hit-or-miss experiences in their Google reviews.

Should I trust these small guys, or wait for the big names to get more stock in?

Got mine from Unique Photo @ a low price ($319). They still have them in stock now @ $329. Nothing bad to say about them so far, quick service, original un-opened product:

+2 or whatever. I ordered thru Unique and paid $319 and it was shipped the next morning. I'd use them again.

EOS Bodies / Re: Heavy camera...best strap?

I'm on a 5D3 w/ grip & 70-200 and found that the RS4 on the ring works best. The only thing is I don't trust that stamped / pressed in deal on the strap. It just seems that someday it's just going to give a way and drop the camera.

I use a small Carabiner that will hold 30-40 pounds and it's really secure and easy to get the camera in and out of.

What was the turnaround time for the fix?

Dropped off Friday at 1pm and it was ready Tuesday at 4:30pm. No bad

... they updated me to firmware version 1.1.2

Sorry to say this, but 1.1.2 isn't new.

Bummer, I guess I'll have to update when the new one is out.

Does the BG-E11 come with two batteries?
Nope Canon's Grips do not include batteries.

I'm not 100% on extended warranties but what exactly do they cover?

If you got a investment in camera equipment just insure it. My premium is about 1.35% of the value of the equipment and I'm covered for everything. Theft, drop it in the ocean, dog licks it, does not matter it's fixed and there is no deductible. Cheaper and better than a warranty.

The "100" in your file list represents the folder number and the "9999" represents the image number. The folder numbers resets every time you format your CF card. I have had a 5DC for 5 years and have always had folder 100 because I format card after every shoot and I've never had a bad CF card.

The image numbers do reset after 9999. There is no way to tell how many images the body has taken unless you keep track of all your files. I save all images on one file by year and I know that I'm at 40,205 images. So you just have to trust your seller on the amount it been used.

The 5DC is a great camera and shots awesome images for 6 year old technology. Honestly if you paid less then a grand and it's in good shape you should be happy and not worry about it.

EOS Bodies / Re: Long exposure dark current noise - 5D III

Great pano mate! How does it compare to the 5DII? Just a reference point for me. Thanks for the reply.

Can't compare to the 5D2 since I was on a 5D1 before. I took the same shot with the 5D1 at iso 800, 30 seconds at f/2.8 and it was not nearly as clean and crisp.

I have spent two nights shooting stars with the 5D3 and all I can say is I’m impressed. The longest shot was maybe 5 minutes and there was noticeable noise but it was nothing that LR4 could not handle.  The biggest thing I noticed was I could shoot the Milky Way at 6400/15/2.8 and not have any issues with noise. I probably could have pushed it one more stop on the ISO without any issues.

The question about the sensor heat was not noticeable either.  One night in Lone Pine the temps were in the 40’s and last weekend in Joshua Tree they were in the 60’s but I did not notice any heat at all. The camera was basically shooting for about 6 hours straight before the battery died.

When I get a chance I’ll try to upload an image or two.

Maybe I'm just weird, but I never use the top LCD.  Ever.  I make/confirm adjustments with the rear display(or in the VF if applicable).  You could remove the top LCD's from my MKII's and MKIII and I'd never miss them or possibly even notice.

You right but when your camera is 2 inches from the ground and pointing up it's impossible to use anything else. This issue really effects a small amount of people and you can easily work around it.

This is Canon's way of telling people "Your idiots, nothing is wrong... But to make you happy along with the bandwagon, we will do something about it".

Seriously, this light leak issue is the stupidest problem ever. I kind of wish Canon just said there is no issue and be done with it.

This leak has caused all types of negativity for no reason.

The light leak issue is very real but after using it you can easily get around it. I shot stars one evening and the metering flat out does not work if you run the light on the upper LCD. You don't get a constant reading and the meter just bounces around. All you have to do is turn the light off and but your options are limited at night when there is no light  and it's pitch black. It's a issue that needs to get fixed but it is totally been blown out of proportion.

Overall the camera is awesome and the ISO expansion is amazing and it's great to be able to shoot at 6400 without any issues. It's a great step up from the 5D1 I was using and I'm 95% happy. It's not 100% because I do shoot 25% of my time at night but for the time being I can work around the light leak issue.
