I'm a Full Time Forensic Scientist.

Photography is fun, and I'm now starting to get paid well for it.  I doubt I'd want to do it primarily, however.

I too am in the camp where I'd like to see the 135mm prime get some love first.

I agree that they'd probably make an amazing 135 (I'm a huge ART-Line fan), but I'm pretty sure they can't compete with Canon's Price Point of about $1k for their VERY good 135 f2.  If they come out with a lens faster than f2 or with OS, I'd be interested.  However, I doubt there's really any money in it for them with Canon's stellar lens.

I'm pretty sure they could really cut into Canon's market share with a good new 85 ART since Canon's equivalent (and amazing) lens is $2K+.  I'd been waiting for Sigma's 85, but couldn't wait any longer and pulled the trigger on the Canon.  I'll be selling it if Sigma's 85 is as good as their other ART lenses.

I think you've gotta follow the money here, and Sigma's gonna make more with an 85 coming first (imho).

Lenses / Canon 85 1.2L USM II for only $10!?
« on: February 11, 2015, 10:43:27 PM »
I've seen a bunch of these weird postings show up all over Amazon lately.  In fact, tonight I saw this lens in "Very Good" condition listed for $800, so I bought it immediately.  Soon afterwards, I got a notice via Amazon that my order had been cancelled due to "Technical Difficulties."

Now, the same seller has the lens listed at $10!
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000EW9Y4M/ref=dp_olp_refurbished?ie=UTF8&condition=refurbished

I'm not sure how long it will stay up because I'm calling shenanigans on the whole thing, and I'm sure Amazon will catch up if it's truly fishy.  I've always had good experiences with Amazon when their sellers have been dodgy because they manage all the money flow and immediately have refunded my payments from shifty sellers.

Has anyone had experiences with these sorts of things?

Thanks in advance!

Lenses / Re: Sigma 14-24mm OS lens at Photokina?

Oh snap.  Ultrawiders who really want 14mm on a zoom might be happy to see this rumor...

http://photorumors.com/2014/08/14/sigma-lenses-rumored-for-photokina-24mm-f1-4-art-and-14-24mm-f4-with-os/

...but I think someone will complain about not having f/2.8 before anyone can say woohoo to a 14-24 lens.

I am more interested in seeing the 135mm f/1.8 DG OS, 85mm f/1.4 DG and 24mm f/1.4 DG Art lenses. These will have an enormous impact on Canon (and also Nikon).
I had the curren Sigma 85mm f/1.4 and only sold it because I needed money and haven't purchased it again waiting to see if Sigma refresh it. Hopefully, the 135mm and 24mm will be priced well below Canon ones.

I love Sigma's Art lenses.  I'm with you on these two, although I'd prefer seeing the 85/1.4 come out first simply because the very good Canon 135 is pretty inexpensive.  I'd sell my Canon copy if the Sigma Art lens is good, however.

The only other amazing 85 is Canon's, and that's $2100.  Unngh...

My Canon 135L is a pretty epic lens, and for abt $1K, it'll be hard to beat.

...unless they go sub-f2 with good sharpness and AF.  Otherwise, I'll be sticking with my awesome 135L.

They've gotta be smart enough to know that, right?  I mean, the 135L is amazing glass, INSANELY sharp at f2, and for the dollar, probably the best portrait lens out there.

They've gotta know that, right?

Have we discussed buying it used?  New it is $2100ish, $1800ish if you go through Canon price watch, but used you can get it for around $1500 or $1600 which is a serious bargain.

That's my plan.  You're right - some killer deals out there for good used 85 1.2L II's

...and now I literally DREAM about owning it!  I'm hoping that Sigma comes out with their new 85 ART, but I'm realizing it's probably not happening soon.

I was happy with my current lens kit of:

35 1.4 Art
50 1.4 Art
70-200 2.8 USM IS II
135 2
24-70 2.8 II

and now, I'm literally losing my mind wanting the 85.

Anyone else considering pulling the trigger?  Those who did, please share your photos with this lens to further torment me (and probably push me over the edge into 85 1.2 bliss).

Thanks!

Surapon - the man/legend!  I feel vindicated in my post now that you have replied.  =)

You're right - she's a beautiful woman, and I'm going to buy her.  I'm a portrait photographer mostly, so it's going to be put to good use.

Has anyone heard about Adobe's plans for moving the CC functionality into the Android world?  There have been whispers about it for a long time, so I wanna find out if anyone's heard anything more concrete.

Thanks In Advance!

Lenses / Where's the Sigma 85 Art?!
« on: December 12, 2014, 03:22:59 PM »
I've been holding out for this lens.  It's taking too long!  =)

So, I'm planning on just buying the Canon 1.2 II, which is truly amazing.  Anyone know anything which might talk me off of the ledge?

I'm a PPA member and I've grown to love the publication they send called "Professional Photographer."  It's a very good read, and I've looked to it almost as much as Canon Rumors!  ;)

Lenses / Deal on Sigma 50 1.4 Art gone already?
« on: November 21, 2014, 10:31:50 AM »
It seems that I just wasn't quick enough to jump on that Adorama deal yesterday for the amazing Siggy 50.  Can anyone tell me if it's gone for good?

If not, does anyone have any leads/tips/rumors about upcoming deals on this lens?

Thanks in advance!
