EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: 5D Mark III sensor cleaning noise (squeaks)
« on: October 27, 2012, 10:16:18 PM »
I appreciate everyone's help with the issue, as I can now use the Mark III without worrying about startup.
And although it was more than what I was asking for, thanks to dlleno for the in-depth information about ultrasonics.  8)

EOS Bodies - For Stills / 5D Mark III sensor cleaning noise (squeaks)
« on: October 25, 2012, 07:36:56 PM »
When powering on one 5D Mark III, during sensor cleaning, a very noticeable squeaky noise (3-4 squeaks) is produced. It can be heard from around 0.5m away (~1.6 feet).
When turning it off, on the other hand, you can't really hear it (only an occasional squeak).
This has only happened recently.

How bad is this (if bad at all)? And does this need attention?

Software & Accessories / Cinevate slider LTS vs FLT
« on: October 22, 2012, 11:13:56 PM »
I have come to the conclusion that LTS stands for Linear Tracking System and FLT stands for Full ball bearing linear Tracking System, but that still leaves the question: is the LTS just the older name for their sliders, or is there a difference between LTS and FLT that is worth noting?

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: 5D Mark III HDR Mode "issue"
« on: October 22, 2012, 09:21:59 PM »
From my experiences, the photo would be cropped even if all of the exposures were in the same frame (or even very minor movements). The cropping would usually bigger than the amount needed for alignment.

Ah, thanks for pointing it out. That's what happens when I don't read the entire manual.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / 5D Mark III HDR Mode "issue"
« on: July 24, 2012, 02:26:24 AM »
When shooting in HDR mode, sometimes the camera will automatically crop the resultant HDR image.

It's really inconvenient to shoot a seemingly perfectly framed photograph when you find out it's been cropped. After this happens (as I don't check the images immediately), I usually have to go back to where I took the shot and pan down so more is showing from the bottom of the frame.

Is this normal with the HDR mode in the 5D Mark III, or does this need to be fixed?

I hope that's with extension tubes or that is a very big moth :P.
No extension tubes were used for this shot.

Software & Accessories / Re: Are lens skins worth it?
« on: July 01, 2012, 07:12:42 PM »
It all comes down to preference and how the "looks cool" falls into place. To some, it might look cool, to others, it might look uncool.
The more basic skins would be a better choice in my opinion, since they provide protection, keep a white L lens hidden, and keep you clear of either side of the "fashion" opinion of others.

Definitely go for the 5D Mark II in this case. The high ISO performance is pretty good, which you need.
But I'd say the 5D Mark III is even better (when/if you decide to get it, and if you save up for it).
In your case, however, go for the Mark II.

Go for the Lowepro Vertex 200 AW since you'll be getting the 70-200 f/2.8 in the future. Of course it's $50 above $200, but it's definitely worth it. Superb protection, room for a laptop, and it has many other features as well. It's a bit on the "big" size for a regular backpack (if you were to compare it to one).

Cheers.

If that is indeed the case of the high ISO performance level, the 1D X will definitely be somewhat of the sole pride of Canon. There is much unannounced stuff, though. Let's see how that will fair against the 1D X.
