What exactly is wrong with the autofocus at f/8?

Most likely going to be tied with the 7D Mark II (if not the 100-400 II).

6.5 fps will definitely attract a lot of people.

How much improvement can Canon actually implement into the DO series?

This will probably turn out to be true.
7D Mark II will definitely have to wait...

Since it's definitely not a sensor, the only thing I can see being revealed is a ground-breaking stabilization system or a lens with incredible stabilization functions.

First reaction: Why the "L"?
Second reaction: Why is it reversed??
Third reaction: "You got me."

Higher ISO - not as in 'available as a setting' but as in 'useable with low noise'.  IMO this is unlikely unless Canon fundamentally changes their sensor fab tech, but at least 1-stop and preferably more.  If ISO 8000 on a 7DII looks like ISO 3200 on the 7D, I'll most likely buy one. AF at f/8 and a multicontroller on the grip would cinch the deal.
That would be a very fascinating thing to see if Canon pulls it off!

How much of a disadvantage would the 7D Mark II be at if it, indeed, had 19 AF points instead of 61?

So will the 200-400 and 100-400 be released/announced around the same time, then?
Seems like Canon is holding back many products, yet the public knows about very few of them.
The price on the Nikon will definitely trigger Canon to give it an even higher price...

Certainly the range on this lens (with the constant aperture) will be the main factor that will attract photographers not really into Sigma products. Sigma is raising the bar with its recent products.

Canon would be taking on Nikon directly with this news.
And with the 7D Mark II having this technology, it'll only be pleasing to those who've been waiting for it for a while.

Totally forgot about the 200-400, as if it was already announced. This doesn't make sense, unless Canon are waiting to announce with the 7D Mark II. I can see it happening.

Without significant differences, I'm guessing this will appeal mostly to those who are "new" to the DSLR scene.

There isn't much of a difference in the T5i specs than the T4i (and even the "EOS-b"). I'm assuming Canon will have to change the name of the "Rebel" series for the new generation of consumer DSLRs.
