Is that what they saying? I do not see it either.

Well, the low-light ISO scores are 3296, 2293, and 1815, for the 1D X, 5D3, and 5D2, respectively.

The difference between the 1D X and 5D3 is 1003, and the difference between the 5D3 and 5D2 is 478.  So, the difference between the former is ~2x as much as the latter.

Or am I missing something here?

What's interesting is that those numbers suggest that the 1D X sensor trumps all other sensors in terms of low-light performance.  In fact, based on their numbers they are saying there is a 2x difference in improvement in low-light ISO between the 1D X and the 5D3, than between the 5D3 and 5D2.  I just don't see it.

Canon General / Re: DxOMark vs. Reality
« on: October 09, 2012, 02:45:40 PM »
That is interesting...  my local AD has lots of banners and large signs outside their storefront...  all are Nikon, none are Canon.  Inside the two biggest display shelves are Nikon and Canon.  Every time I have gone in (probably a couple times a week, to once a month), I've never seen anyone actually buy anything Nikon.  But, I've seen a lot of people buy Canon gear.  I'm not saying that they aren't selling a lot of Nikon gear, because I'm sure they are, but those are just my observations.

I once asked the rental section of the store a similar question...  what do you rent out more often?  The answer was Canon equipment 3x as often.  Actually, Nikon was only rented slightly more often than Mamiya, Leaf, and the Hassys.  In fact Zeiss lenses were more often rented than Nikon lenses.

What's interesting is that when I went to the Browns game last month, there were only two photographers shooting Nikon.  The other dozen were shooting Canon.  Why?

But then, last year I went to Belize for vacation.  While walking around, going on excursions, etc, I did not see one other Canon...  not one...  not even a tiny PowerShot.  All I saw were Nikon dSLRs, compacts, etc.  I was the only one I saw shooting with my Canon (5D2 at the time).

So, what's this all mean?  Who knows.

3 Legged Thing Eric x4.

That'll get you all the low angle shots you want, plus it's an awesome tripod for general use.  I personally like it much better than my Manfrotto 055XPROB tripod that others recommended.

I'm way out of my elements on this one, since I usually never take portraits...  I figured, eh, might as well give it a try.  I hope you guys like it. :)

I used to only use Sandisk for all my storage, without a problem.  But, recently with the new 1000x Lexar prices, I've switched.  I should be getting my 2-pack later this week. :)

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon EOS 3D at 46.1mp Next Month? [CR1]

$7000-$8000.  Priced and marketed in parallel with the 1Dx as a flagship camera for the segment of users that complained about the 18mps of the 1Dx.  You know who you are, now's your chance to put your money where your mouth is.

I don't see it costing more than the 1D X, since that camera is Canon's flagship.  Also, I doubt the 3D/6D/etc will be weather-sealed like the 1D-series, include a CF shutter rated to 400k cycles, built-in battery grip, etc.

I have sold the 5D Mark III and hold the 1D X.
Is the camera worth the $3k more? If so why?

I did the same thing as KKCFamilyman (upgrading to the 1D X from the 5D3). For me, yes.  The build quality is much better than the 5D3, imo (the 5D3 felt like a toy compared to the 1D X), and fast frame rate is great.  But then again, it's not for everyone.  I always wanted a 1D-series body, so this was the perfect time for me to get one.

They also would probably cry that BMW puts in restrictions on the US versions of the M5 that limit it's maximum horsepower and still charge you over $100k for the car.

Along the same lines...  would you be pissed if you bought a $100k M5, and then next year when the new GPS update comes out, BMW made you purchase a new M5 instead of allowing you to buy a DVD with the updated maps?  Or, if you want a Sirius Satellite Radio in your car, you'd have to buy a brand new car with that option, as opposed to just adding it to your current car?  Remember, now you can get BMWs pre-wired with Sirius now, just not activated (in other words, it's similar to just a firmware update).

But, I agree, it's not a question of being ethical or moral...  they can do whatever they want.  But, it doesn't mean that some of us can't be pissed about it.

so why we talking about all this??

just shut up, don´t voice your opinion.. buy or don´t buy canon stuff.. that is the solution for everything canon!!

I hope you forgot the /sarcasm tag there.

Why wouldn't you discuss this in an open forum?  For example, people are discussing how crappy the new maps are on iOS 6 on the Apple forums.

What is appalling about this?

A macbook and a macbook with creative suite have the exact same hardware, yet the one with creative suite will cost you an extra 3.5k.

Youre essentially paying for the software that costs the company money and time to develop. Programmers arent free guys.

I agree, programmers aren't free guys.  But that being said, your analogy is flawed.  A more correct analogy is that you have to buy a Macbook with CS6 for $3.5k more.  You can't buy a Macbook and later decide you want to get CS6 and just buy the software for an additional upgrade free.

That is what Canon has done.  Although that is not necessarily morally wrong, it's definitely frowned upon and hurts their high-end customers.  I don't understand their reasoning behind it.  What sort of misguided business decision was this?  They obviously know they made a mistake, otherwise why hide the only difference being the firmware and say "oh, it's because of heat dissipation, bandwidth issues, etc".  They made is sound like that they upgraded the inside significantly, instead of just removing the X and adding a red C on the outside. Ugh.  >:(
