EOS Bodies / Re: Canon EOS 3D at 46.1mp Next Month? [CR1]
« on: September 25, 2012, 10:42:58 AM »
$7000-$8000.  Priced and marketed in parallel with the 1Dx as a flagship camera for the segment of users that complained about the 18mps of the 1Dx.  You know who you are, now's your chance to put your money where your mouth is.

I don't see it costing more than the 1D X, since that camera is Canon's flagship.  Also, I doubt the 3D/6D/etc will be weather-sealed like the 1D-series, include a CF shutter rated to 400k cycles, built-in battery grip, etc.

I have sold the 5D Mark III and hold the 1D X.
Is the camera worth the $3k more? If so why?

I did the same thing as KKCFamilyman (upgrading to the 1D X from the 5D3). For me, yes.  The build quality is much better than the 5D3, imo (the 5D3 felt like a toy compared to the 1D X), and fast frame rate is great.  But then again, it's not for everyone.  I always wanted a 1D-series body, so this was the perfect time for me to get one.

They also would probably cry that BMW puts in restrictions on the US versions of the M5 that limit it's maximum horsepower and still charge you over $100k for the car.

Along the same lines...  would you be pissed if you bought a $100k M5, and then next year when the new GPS update comes out, BMW made you purchase a new M5 instead of allowing you to buy a DVD with the updated maps?  Or, if you want a Sirius Satellite Radio in your car, you'd have to buy a brand new car with that option, as opposed to just adding it to your current car?  Remember, now you can get BMWs pre-wired with Sirius now, just not activated (in other words, it's similar to just a firmware update).

But, I agree, it's not a question of being ethical or moral...  they can do whatever they want.  But, it doesn't mean that some of us can't be pissed about it.

so why we talking about all this??

just shut up, don´t voice your opinion.. buy or don´t buy canon stuff.. that is the solution for everything canon!!

I hope you forgot the /sarcasm tag there.

Why wouldn't you discuss this in an open forum?  For example, people are discussing how crappy the new maps are on iOS 6 on the Apple forums.

What is appalling about this?

A macbook and a macbook with creative suite have the exact same hardware, yet the one with creative suite will cost you an extra 3.5k.

Youre essentially paying for the software that costs the company money and time to develop. Programmers arent free guys.

I agree, programmers aren't free guys.  But that being said, your analogy is flawed.  A more correct analogy is that you have to buy a Macbook with CS6 for $3.5k more.  You can't buy a Macbook and later decide you want to get CS6 and just buy the software for an additional upgrade free.

That is what Canon has done.  Although that is not necessarily morally wrong, it's definitely frowned upon and hurts their high-end customers.  I don't understand their reasoning behind it.  What sort of misguided business decision was this?  They obviously know they made a mistake, otherwise why hide the only difference being the firmware and say "oh, it's because of heat dissipation, bandwidth issues, etc".  They made is sound like that they upgraded the inside significantly, instead of just removing the X and adding a red C on the outside. Ugh.  >:(

Blackrapid RS-Sport.  Works great, and is very comfy for all day use.

Chewy734, what file sizes do you throw at your machine? And which PP app do you use?
I'm considering going the MacBook pro route, so I'm curious about what it can handle...

I use LR4 most of the time.  Sometimes Photoshop, sometimes Illustrator (not for PP, but other stuff).  I actually use my laptop for complex computational scientific research, so any PP stuff I throw at it is not a problem at all.

Built-in GPS and wifi?  Why can't Canon include those useful features on the 5D3 or 1D X?   :-[

I do all my post-processing with my MacBook Pro, 16gb RAM, and 512gb SSD.  It's super fast for anything that I throw at it.  The key is getting at least 8gb RAM and the SSD.  The SSD makes a world of difference.

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon 1DX VS 5D MKIII Cameras

I'd have to say... Somehow the 1Dx generates better image quality after post processing, retains better details and greater dynamic range compared to MKIII

i used MKIII for few months before make a switch, and 1DX also points accurate exposures

I agree with you completely on this.  However, I do feel that the 5D3 gives you more bang for the buck.  Unless you need the weather sealing or faster frames per second, the 1D X just isn't the smarter buy.

Size difference is actually kind of a non-issue. Gripped a 5D Mark III or 7D is similar in size to a 1D-X. Instead there is a significant advantage for 1-series bodies in terms of better usability. Getting used to this is similar to the addiction to L-lenses. Once you have experienced just how good it can be, you don't want to go back.

You are right about the size difference.  But, the 1D bodies overall feel noticeably better in the hands than a gripped non-1D body.

The LEE Big Stopper.  Arguably the best 10-stop ND filter you can buy.

This is the one I bought.  Seems to work well for me, and it arrived much quicker than I expected.
