EOS Bodies / Re: Canon's Next Full Frame Camera [CR2]
« on: July 16, 2012, 09:27:46 AM »
This camera sounds worse overall than the current 5D2.  If they want to have an entry level FF camera, they need to make this cost less...  $1499 at the absolute max.  The AF is probably better, but other than that...   :o

If they want to pit this against the upcoming D600, then the price needs to be much lower, since the D600 looks better on paper.

Mine arrived from B&H this past Tuesday.

Neuro, I'm curious what your initial impressions are with the beast?

Thanks for your detailed response.  That's kind of what I was looking for.

EOS Bodies / Why are you buying the 1D X?
« on: July 10, 2012, 06:37:41 PM »
My 5D3 went back due to what I think is a short related to the electronic viewfinder.  That being said, I am on the fence and strongly considering getting the 1D X instead.  I'm next in the queue at my local dealer, and if I decide to pull the trigger, I will have one by the end of this week.

So...

For those of you who have purchased a 1D X, I'm curious as to why?  What makes it worth it to you?  Specifically, why would you buy one over the 5D3?  Of course, specifications-wise it's better in almost every way, but it's nearly double the price.  I'm sure many of you guys are pros, who have previously owned a 1D series.  I don't have any experience with the 1D, so is the build quality really that much better than the 5D series?

I would appreciate any input that would help me decide...  I'm either getting another 5D3, or upgrading to the 1D X.  I'm sure I'll keep either body for a long time to come (my last camera was a 20D that I've kept for nearly 7 years).

Thanks for your help!

EOS Bodies / Re: 3D or 2D really possible?

It could well be a 1DsX type

- 1DX body etc

except

- 40mp
- 5fps
- no video

Brian, I don't see Canon not putting any video on a camera these days.

I can't believe it's been two years for those super telephotos neuro.  That's like two full product cycles for many types of electronics!

If you were in the market for one at this time, where would be the best place to buy it?

I'm sure XO will come out with some 1DX skins in the next few weeks.  I used their screen protector on the 5D3 and I highly recommend them.

When I called my local authorized dealer again yesterday, they said their computer shows an allotment of 30 1Dx's coming to their store, with the first shipment arriving by the end of next week.  He did mention they don't expect more than a handful in the first shipment though, given their past history of what they were promised and what they got of the 5D3s and D800s.

Any advantages of buying at the local store, other than maybe getting better customer service/support, and supporting your local camera store and local economy?  A high tax rate on nearly $7k adds up to a lot of money wasted, compared to purchasing it through other online retailers which charge no tax.

Disappointment... :-[

BTW, Does anyone know what the crop factor would be on the sensor?

1.85x, I think.
