Lenses / Re: Help with 360ยบ Panoramas
« on: January 17, 2013, 09:19:59 AM »
You can use pretty much any lens you wish. You just need to decide how high the resolution vs the detail you want to capture. When I want a bit more detail, i use a standard 14mm lens, or even a 50mm lens. When I am not too worried about high resolution I use a 15mm fisheye (mostly use this now as it is way quicker and the resolution is not so bad). It does mean you either take more or less photos depending on the fov coverage of the lens.

You do need some software to stich though. I recommend, in order of preference:

PT GUI - www.ptgui.com - I like this as you can decide which parts you want to keep in case of ghosting etc
Autopano Giga - http://www.kolor.com/ - this I like too, though it is not as good at removing ghosts, giving you the ability to remove ghosts. I use mainly for gigapixel images.

An example tour, all taken with the canon 8-15 mm fisheye, all at 15mm. Stitched using ptgui.

An example gigapixel photo, taken using the canon 100-400. Stitched with Autopano Giga.

The software I use to playback the 360 tours and gigapixel photos is called krpano.

Canon General / Re: Jessops [UK camera retailer] closes
« on: January 15, 2013, 08:48:56 AM »
Perhaps the reason Canon has decided to have a physical presence on the high street is due to shops like Jessops closing down. A lot of people still like to physically hold a camera before deciding what to get. Imagine a world where all the stores like Jessops close. For Canon to have a store where people can physically try their cameras, still on the high street, could give them an advantage over competitors like Nikon, if Nikon fail to do the same. Perhaps the main purpose of the stores is marketing. If there are no longer any independent stores, in significant numbers at least, then the likes of Canon and Nikon may well have to open up stores to show off their gear.

5D MK III Sample Images / Re: Brenda & Tristan

Thanks.  I should have made it clear, they were not a couple, though they were shot on the same day. I posted them together because I was too lazy to create separate threads.

Thanks for your feedback.

I seem to be having the same issues with batteries. I am going to do a full test as soon as I can, but seem to get a few hundred at most.

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon 5D Mark III Light Leak?

Tested and confirmed I have the same issue. I wonder if this will cause an issue with high ISO shots, especially at night with not many light sources.

Amazon France have also added the lens.

Bloody expensive though, 2,700 euros! Is that price for real?

I have used this with the flex tt5s in simple trigger mode only. Worked fine for me at 1/200.

I agree it is frustrating, though I would not want the back wheel touch to control the zoom. I am sure I will accidently touch this during viewing the photo a few times to be annoying. I say just give the option to use the old 5d2 controls and remove that stupid zoom step.  No idea why they thought adding an additioanl step would enhance the workflow...

Love this camera overall though:)

using them as basic triggers only, I do not have a problem shooting at 1/200 with flash.
