Third Party Manufacturers / Nikon d800 Pre-orders are "Unprecedented"

Nikon has confirmed that pre-orders for its new semi-pro full-frame DSLR, the Nikon D800, have been better than expected.
Speaking to TechRadar, Jeremy Gilbert, Nikon UK marketing manager, said, "People have been asking for the D800 for the past two years, and the excitement has been building and building."
The D800 was announced in February and is the world's highest resolution full-frame camera, packing 36 million pixels.
According to Nikon, it doesn't replace the D700, but rather sits alongside it in a new category that seems to be pretty squarely aimed at medium format users and portrait photographers.
Gilbert continued, "The feedback has been really good, and the pre-orders are unprecedented."

Just got back from the camera shop where the dealer told me the confirmed price drop for the 5D2 will be $2,199 starting tomorrow.
This should make those who were waiting to score a 5D2 at a discount fairly happy!

OK - in full disclosure I was about to write up a post how I was disappointed with some of the noise in the high ISO shots being offered on Canon Europe's website. Then - in order to be fair I figured I should compare the photos to the 5DMKII. Wow - what an improvement! I just downloaded some 6400 full res MKII samples, and the improvement is staggering.
Here is a side by side comparo...

So - I'm seeing a lot of information about a "late March" arrival for the 5D3, but not getting any concrete information in any of the articles I've read.
Does anyone know the a real launch date for the 5D3? Or is Canon still holding out on announcing a date?

I saw in the 1DX Update that Platinum CPS members get priority ordering on the 1DX body. But, my question is, do Gold members also get an opportunity once the platinum notifications have gone out? Or are they just like any other member of the general public at that point?

Software & Accessories / Tripod w/ Spiked Feet and Air Travel?

Has anyone ever run into issues traveling with spiked feet on a tripod as a carry-on item? I just got some spiked feet for my Manfrotto while visiting family on holiday, and I'm worried TSA will confiscate them. I'm considering shipping them back home so I don't get forced into throwing them away at the airport.
Any advice/experience on this matter? Thanks!

Lighting / PocketWizard FlexTT5 and 580exII RF Issues?

Does anyone here have experience with PWs FlexTT5 and the 580exII? I'm looking at moving into remote ETTL, but have seen some reviews where range was severely limited due to high RF interference from the 580.
Granted, I'd probably eventually get the AC7 RF hard-shields, just because that horizontal mount configuration is awesome for umbrellas, but I'd still like to hear some real world experiences. Thanks!
