I would love to see how this compares (IQ wise) with the current 400 F2.8 and with extenders. I suspect that the F2.8 will give you more potential for going to 800 with a 2X where as the zoom to 560mm is also a huge advantage and convenience especially in the outdoors.

I think that kind of editing is fine - but you should disclose what edits youve made to those interested. I think something looks wrong with the horizon of the edited pic. Its too soft, though i may not have came to that conclusion if i didnt see the original.

Fast lenses wont help as already point out - unless you shoot for a good distance, I find speedlites are overpriced - pick up a few yougnuo or even cheaper compatible flahses for less than 50$ each like the Neewer TT560 on amazon. A few pairs of inexpensive remote triggers like those from yougnuo and even an umbrella/lightstand will work wonders all for less than you would pay for a single canon speedlite.

Interesting thread. However its obvious that there are many fanboys (on either side) whose contribution takes away from the discussion. There was a very interesting thread "Nikon go Crazy" there it was discussed having a hybrid collection of bodies and lenses - and I though it was a good idea rather than having say two 5Dmk3's. I am still looking at the D800 as there are definite pluses however I am afraid of some of the potential quirks of the d800 and dont know how many of them are ironed out. Something that has engaged my attention is the user feedback on Amazon for both the 5D3 and the d800. Both have around 250 reviews however, negative reviews for the 5D is almost non existent while its considerable for the d800. Leads me to believe there are issues with the d800 that left many buyers disappointed. I hope it comes down even more it might drive me to get one.

The price of these super high res have dropped in price - I have a HP L3065 that i bought for about 1200$ about 2 yrs ago that I use with two 21" in portrait mode on either side - that's one of the pluses of the 30 inchers  - but both the 21" 1200x1600  have gone off the radar and now the 30" are going out - and i suppose this is why you will not see any new 30" panels - they are being replaced by the 27" slightly less resolution for about 700$ for HP or Dell. What we really need is something that has about a diagonal 27" and a higher pixel density - I supposed this is coming probably something with 4K resolution.

Is there such a thing as FF nay-sayers? I really doubt it.  I think there are FF owners and those who would like to be be FF owners. And the 7D? I used to own one before - its low light performance was really discouraging. I hate to be blunt but the 7d (and the rest of canons line crop line up) sucks and any kind of low light. And those who say they like the 'reach' of the crop sensor cameras, reminds me of the day when people thought that Digital zoom was useful!

I think that the GPS features on the new 6D and the GPS addons are great for documentation photography. I am looking for a way to expolit the EXIF data - the GPS and the altitude/ direction data that canon records with the coordinates. I find it strange that there are few ways for photographers to utilize this data - lightroom doesnt seem use the compass/altitude data.

I am currently hosting with Zenfolio and they dont have geotagging. Smug mug has limited geotagging features. The most promising i have found is this wordpress template:

After reading the Crazy... go Nikon? thread under "Third party manufacturers", I think the D800 is the best compliment to my 5D3. Sure I will have to buy some extra glass - but you cannot beat the DR and the shadow detail. I shoot alot of wide angle, and long exposures. The Nikon glass is great at wide angle. Ill get one of the best wide zooms say the 14 -24 and a couple of general purpose zooms - up to maybe 300mm and leave the long stuff for the 5D3. that way i'll have duplication and alot of extra functionality.

I wont labor the point except to note that this is YOUR criteria. Photogs like to pretend that their preferences are somehow 'better' than those of others. We see this here in this post. If you want to see how unreasonable photographers want to make their 'opinions' into science check the post on "Crazy... go Nikon?".  Your point #2 is what I would be weary of .. "who can afford" Professional/Serious photography is about needs and business justification - buying all that you can afford (and that usually involves overspending) this is gearhead and fanboy talk! PERIOD!

There has been a sort of love hate reaction toward the 6D. I feel that the 6D is the perfect complimentary camera to the 5Dmkiii. Many pro photographers need a second camera, and I believe the 6D is perfect if you use the 5Dm3 as your primary camera. Almost every feature is complimentary. The 5D lacks the fancy connectivity/gps capabilities not to mention the remote EOS software for your phone, the low light focusing ability. The 6D lacks superior focusing, video ability and a few others. All while maintaining similar IQ. I have not heard this discussed. If you own both, you have almost all you bases covered with duplication of the most important qualities. If only the 6D could be had for 1500$ or less - maybe in a few months, the ebay offers will appear.

I said before and I'm going to say it again: -  Most 6D owners were from Rebel(budget issue). Therefore, the high lighted features above are so dam important more than AF system. Who take picture @ -3EV?

YES !! we got your point, dont know why you have to shout it out - this is not a group decision, everyone here has a free choice. But obviously everyone does not have your shooting habits and quirks. I dont care to. I think if the 6D was more inexpensive it would make a great companion. You are making my point that you have to pay MORE to have the functionality that is already in the 6D (the gps and connectivity). By owning both the 5D and the 6D you have access to this extra functionality. I never take the same picture with both cameras at the same time. So I have more of an expanded feature set by using the 6D as a backup. The down side is where you are using both cameras for the same shoot and maybe want the advanced auto-focus on both, which is not a huge deal for me.  And yes I have encountered many many instances where the 5D3 wont focus because there isn't enough light. Having GPS is great for documentary and landscape photography. And I will repeat this again - you are free have your choice on this and so do others - there is no one right answer or consensus.

Heres what I'd do:


1. Right click the file you posted above:  choose "open with photoshop CSX" where x is the version of photoshop you have.
2. Click "s" move mouse over good area of camera just over area where you think the paint is good.
3. Alt + Click then move to the defective area and click and drag.

That should work!

I bought the B+W 77mm ND 3.0-1,000X at amazon and I am pleased with it. I use it in tandem with a variable ND to increase it to over 14 stops. I am quite pleased with it.

Great! This thread has now become, as expected, a venue for Nikon fanboys to ...well so as not to be censored, I will choose my words gently...a venue for nikon fanboys to ...er... "pleasure themselves". 

Canon is the industry leader in lenses, period...when one considers the entire spectrum of Canon lenses across a wide range of focal lengths they hold an enviable market position. 

One or two lenses by the competition that out performs Canon will not sway me or most sane folk. 

Get a room and go enjoy your ultra wide zoom... better yet, build a shrine with the nikon 14-24...that should make up for all the rest of the lenses Canon excels at.

So what about the Canon Fanboys who jump on this thread and choose to misinterpret the OP's idea to enjoy the best of both to mean jumping ship?

i really don't see any reason not to run two cameras if that would better fit your needs.
 
  honestly though, these jumping ship things because of a 36mp sensor.

The OP is not talking  about jumping ship but to take the forbidden route - be in both markets. And i can see the justification. For wide angle and landscape nikon is clearly ahead both the body and the glass. Personally I much prefer to chose a second body that would give me BOTH duplication AND expanded capability. The down side - at least  half of you r glass wont work on one of your bodies - so you will have to have some duplication. I don't see the problem. Duplication is really a minor issue - cameras are very reliable and you will hardly ever need duplication. As no ONE camera will be best for every type of photography. Buying two identical bodies defeats this. Now there are photogs that don't care to fiddle nor learn about the gear - but clearly these are in the minority especially at a site like this. Personally I don't see a problem with learning to use the layouts and ergonomics of either. I have met old school photogs that insist that they wont bother to learn lightroom and they are great photogs, but I think they are mistaken - I enjoy learning new stuff.
