EOS Bodies / Re: What is missing from the 7DII specs
« on: March 30, 2013, 06:24:17 AM »
I'm a bit disappointed with the rumored number of AF points, but I was also disappointed with the 6Ds specs.  I bought the 6D anyway, and am anything but disappointed.  It would have to be a mini 1DX for me to consider getting another body.  We will see  ;D

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Should I sell my 7D for a 6D?
« on: March 23, 2013, 10:54:15 PM »
I sold my 7D to help finance my 6D purchase.  I'm so glad that I did.  Image quality is far superior in my opinion.  For my style of shooting, I don't need 19 AF or the faster shutter.  The only real issue I have is the lack of a pop up flash or some form of wireless transmission for my flash.  Of course, now I don't need the flash anymore with the ISO performance :p

I've been using the Gary Fong lightsphere for awhile now. I've had pretty good results with it. I just got the rogue flashbender with softbox attachment. I'll try it out this weekend.

Lenses / Re: Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG Sets New Benchmark for Excellence

Would the Sigma be noticeably better than the 24-105 on a 6D?  Most of my photos of cosplay are between 24 and 35mm.  I'm very happy with the 105 so far.  I already have a 40 2.8 and a 50 1.4 so maybe I'm getting too redundant.  Something about primes intrigues me though.  I think I have this desire to take the sharpest photo ever  ;D. I'll consider renting one for my next event.

EOS Bodies / Re: Experiences with the 6D

I upgraded from the 7D to the 6D. Low light images are vastly improved. I don't really notice any difference in AF performance.  I think the 7D AF was prob overkill for my shooting style.  I mostly shoot events where it's fairly dark or where I need to shoot small aperture.  I shot a car show mostly at f/8 and ISO 3200.  I needed no NR except in shots where I messed up exposure and had to correct in LR.  I have a grip so it fits my large hands better.  I adapted to the lack of a joystick within the first hour, but I admit that I shoot the center point mostly anyway.  I'm very satisfied with my purchase.

6D Sample Images / Re: Photographs taken OF the Canon EOS 6D
« on: March 12, 2013, 01:00:53 AM »
Great pics.  I love my 6D.  I'm looking forward to renting a 300 f/4 IS for an upcoming event.  I'm already in love with the 24-105.  I'm still not sure which would be better for me.  The 300 or the 100-400. I should have it figured out in 6 months.  Thx for the pics.

Cars!

1/80, f/8, ISO 6400, 28mm.  (masking 57, sharpening 41, luminance 23)
Was using my landscape CP on this one, vignettes like crazy at 35 and wider.  Need a slim CP.

1/30, f/8, ISO 1600, 24mm

I'm using the 24-105. I have a 70-200 just in case.  2.8 glass is still a bit out of my price range.  I'm hoping to upgrade to the 70-200 2.8 by next year though.  The 40 is my body cap :p

The 24-105 is fantastic.  Have to use lens correction for the wider range, but it's very good.

I'm considering putting together a kit for reach with my 6D.  I'm looking at the 300 f/4 IS with 1.4 or the 400 5.6.  Im not sure which set up would give me the best sharpness.  I'm also planning on shooting indoor events where I may not be able to get close to the stage, which is why I considered the IS.  I'll be renting one of the lenses and was wondering if anyone had experience with either.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: 7D - Worth Buying ???
« on: February 15, 2013, 07:34:46 PM »
I upgraded from the 7D to the 6D. The 7D is still great, but I needed high ISO performance for events, and the 6D does not disappoint.  In low light, it basically becomes a 1 point AF DSLR, but that one point grabs focus like a tractor beam  ;D. For my style, FF is the way to go.

I'm using it on the iPad mini.  Works great once it's set up.
