I pad $1800 for a used 85mm F1.2 II from B&H and it was rated at 9/10 by them in terms of condition etc. There is currently one on B&H Used for $1689.95 plus taxes I assume.

I use it every time I remember too! I don't change lenses to often when I am out and  about so its pretty much a click to correct then syncing across all the images, takes seconds and worth it in my opinion.

I dont believe you do lose the settings, i.e. if you have it set on burst mode it will be there when you switch back on. Just to note that the receiver does not auto power off. You have to remember to switch that off when you put it back in your bag!

I had a good look at the Camranger yesterday at Focus 2013. Its actually really neat piece of kit, however its £270 and I was very tempted but I'm pretty sure I could find something that I will use more often to put my £250 towards.

I picked up a hähnel Giga T Pro II RF remote.  Interval timer, the remote unit is small enough to fit in the palm (for getting in the picture if needed).  I like that the remote unit can actually be plugged directly into the camera if desired (i.e. used as a wired release) for interval timing, etc.

+1. I have this and its very good, its more than just a simple trigger, with an intervalometer etc built in. One annoying thing with it, for me anyway, is that the remote will power off after a minute or so, therefore if you are scouting about with your camera set up and see something you want to shoot and you haven't used the trigger for a few minutes you need to turn it back on again, which takes time. It might be possible to change the standby duration in the settings but I've never got round to checking.

Apparently this is coming out in Android later in March. DPReview says its compatible with the 6D but I cant see any reference to it on the Spec page. Might be worth contacting them.

You could also get a long sync cord (see, e.g., http://ocfgear.com/) which would let you use the 600 off camera and still trigger the 430 optically as a slave in ETTL or Manual, I think. The 10m cord is $65 and the 5m cord is $48.

Thanks, having spent circa £250 on an ST-E3 trigger I want to avoid cables if I can but its still a good option, thanks again.

Brilliant Neuro, first class as always. I had just finished reading a previous similar post on the same thing dated last December or so, although that was 580ii's.

One thing you need to consider is the power of your existing pc or mac. LR4 is very thirsty in my experience. I was running a late 2011 iMac which had 4gb of RAM and it just wasn't enough, to crack a nut I used the proverbial sledgehammer and upgraded to 16gb, at the same price Apple wanted to charge to to upgrade from 4 to 8gb when I purchased the iMac in the first place.

The operating specs for LR4 are 2GB of Ram but if you are running other stuff simultaneously such as Elements, Internet, Mail etc then it needs way more in my experience.

Once you get into it then you'll find you can do 90% of your editing in LR unless you are into major photoshop edits or creating composites of course.

Lighting / St-E3 + 600ex-rt + 430EXii

Does anyone know if its possible to trigger a 600Ex-rt via an ST-E3 and at the same time have the 600ex-rt trigger the 430exii.

From what I can see and I hope I am wrong the 600 works in either radio or optical modes and cant trigger a 430exii when its triggered itself by radio from the st-e3. I've triggered the 430exii from the 600 while its on camera, which is obviously straight forward enough however I was hoping that in order to avoid buying another 600 I could use the 430exii as a cost effective double flash set up if I ever need it.

Any suggestions or confirmation of my thoughts welcomed.

In my opinion the 7D only needs improved AF and better high'ish iso performance, say 3200 to 6400. I was never convinced about its low iso performance but that might just have been my copy. I had issues with noise at 200 and 400 iso. Sent it back to Canon with that query and it seemed there was an improvement on return but I still opted to use iso's either side of those values if I could.

Additions of wifi and gps would be nice to have but basically an improvement on iq is the most important issue and that will come with improved AF and improved iso performance. I'd be happy enough with a marginal 10-20% uplift in megpixels but not at expense of iq.
