D7000 is good camera, I have tried both, and for me D7000 better than 7D in term of dynamic range and high iso, but it doesn't mean 7D not good at all.
It's up to u my friend, if u feel comfortable with ur D7000, just enjoy ur camera. Both brand have strength & weakness, so nothing perfect. Just IMO

Last night im trying to capture milky way, but i dont see any milky way at the sky, but at least i got one photo to share. This is my 1st attempt to capture night skies

Usually, great tools helping us to get a good photos. But sometimes great photos doesnt mean come from a great tools. We need to find the solution to cover our tools weakness. In this topic, we talk/complaining about canon weakness is DR.
So find the solution how to cover canon low DR problem..in the same time we can learn something new..
Dont limit our creativity by our tools limitation. Just have some fun, shoot, learning and enjoy our camera..
1st time im upgrading my 7d to 5dm3, Im not impress, but when I read the manual book and take some pictures, I found my 5dm3 is really amazing camera.. and now..im still using my 7d for landscape and xploring my 5dm3..
So find the solution how to cover canon low DR problem..in the same time we can learn something new..

Yes, Canon DR not good as Nikon, but Canon still great at other categories.

I have 7d + 10-22, 18-135 & 24-70L II and last week I bought 5dm3 and im very happy. ihmo, 24-70L II or 24-105L is perfect combination for ur 5dm3. Dont worry about f/4 because 5dm3 high iso is great. (just imho)
For me, 24mm on FF is not wide enough, so im using my 7d+10-22mm for landscape..

Actually imho, filter is very useful for front element protection.. if not a pixel peeper I suggest u should get one.. b+w is very good but xpensive..
