I feel the lions do not need to be "clearly" visible. These are silhouetted animals which are easily identifiable as-is. Your original process was great except maybe the sun/sky being posterized as mentioned earlier.

Anyway, here's my go at it . . .

Here's where you probably "heard" this . . .

Scroll down to where it says "Image Size".

Proceed with caution!

Theater, Concert and Event / Re: Concert Shots
« on: November 12, 2014, 02:45:02 PM »
In general I believe you did a nice job considering the simple lighting that was in place. The lighting, of course, adds most of the drama, color and atmosphere to concert shots - not to mention the light required for the shot.
I tend to use Image Stabalized lenses because of the dim lighting (doesn't do anything for fast moving people/hands) and set the camera to the highest frame rate then shoot bursts. This lets me use the lowest ISO I can get away with and hit a couple non-blurry shots in the group. This also helps when your in a crowd with your camera in the air and other concert goers bumping into you!

There are many free apps for smart phones which will help you quickly calculate DoF for lens/f-number/distance combos. I have one called SetMyCamera, but there are many.

Thanks all! Fortunately we did not have to run from any bears - although we were forced to stand in a secure watch tower for an hour or so while some bears occupied the entrances of the only bridge across a small section of the river.

Rocky Mountain Nat'l Park. And on the way, you can get great photos (especially morning) of the Flat Irons in Boulder.

Okay, here's a little redemption for the Kite Surfer photos I posted earlier in the thread - a little more on the "Waterscapes" topic . . .
Nice images ... was the composition of the first image deliberate to give it a "naughty" look? :D ... I love it :D
For those of you who are not as immature as I am, just tilt your head to see the first image in portrait orientation :D

Ha!! Completely unintentional. This is a great park in west-central Oregon where there are several waterfalls you can walk behind and get great perspectives and unique compositions.
