7D MK II Sample Images / Re: Anything Shot with a 7D MII
« on: November 11, 2014, 01:47:54 AM »
A couple football pics from Friday night on a poorly lit field.  JPEGs from the camera with slight editing and minor cropping in Lightroom (be glad when the raw converter is updated since that is what I shoot most of the time).  Happy with the result.  Shot these with a 70-200 2.8L II.

A couple bird pics from today.  JPEGs from the camera with slight editing and major cropping in Lightroom.  Happy with the result.  Going to test the focus and adjust tomorrow for all of my glass.  Shot these with a 70-200 2.8L II with a 1.4x III extender.

Is it a NO NO to directly to light room  , should one goto    DPP   then LIGHTROOM for best noise and COLOR

For a couple more weeks, you can't go directly to Lightroom as Adobe has not yet released the updates to Camera Raw necessary to accept the files from the 7d Mark II.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Is the 7D MK II Really Selling Well?
« on: November 04, 2014, 08:59:08 PM »
I'll bet it's selling better than you think.  I've been hesitant, but I went ahead and pulled the trigger today and ordered one.  I had to look around a bit to find one in stock (body only). I'll have it Thursday afternoon and try it out at a High School football playoff game on Friday night.

Canon General / CPS loan returns
« on: October 31, 2014, 09:06:28 PM »
For those of you that have borrowed equipment from CPS for evaluation, I have a question.  I have a loaner scheduled in a couple weeks and today I noticed the return date is Thanksging Day (U.S. Holiday so no FedEx, UPS, etc deliveries).  I have borrowed from CPS before, but I've never had a return date fall on a holiday.  Will CPS be ok with it arriving on the day after or do I need to ship it sooner so that it gets there the day before?  Thanks.

Check out Jennifer Wu Photography.  She is one of Canon's "Explorers of Light," and has a book out on night sky photography that is really good.  I saw her speak last year and her favorite night sky lens is the canon 24L 1.4.

Here's one I shot 4 years ago at the Missouri State Fair.  The hardest part was waiting for all 3 to be moving at the same time!

Have you tried the WFT-E6? I ask because I really like the one on my 1Ds MkIII's and the newer versions have much more functionality.

If so how does the CamRanger compare?

Hi Private, I do have the WFT-E6, but since purchasing the Camranger never use it, the CamRanger does everything the E6 does then leaves it behind, the thing i like most on the Camranger is the ability to focus via the iPad, the Camranger app just works very well.

Canon sell the E6 for almost $700 bucks the CamRanger sells for $300 & cleans the clock on compared usability.

+1 on the CamRanger.  I really like using it.  I just recently bought a strapped case for my ipad for easier mobility while shooting high school football from the sidelines. I can quickly view the pics on the much larger screen moments after shooting them.

A related question:  how many non-Nikon shooters go to Nikon forums to complain about Nikon?

From what I've seen, many of the most vocal complainers on CR don't use Canon gear.  Some of them used to shoot Canon.  So why are they here?

Have they 'found religion' and are here to 'convert' the great unwashed masses?

Do they have inner doubts about their choices, and coming here to complain about Canon helps them continue to justify their decisions?

Do they think they're being altruistic, devoting their time and energy to show us poor, deluded fools how bad we have it, and how good it could be if only we make the same choices they made?

Do they honestly want Canon to deliver products that would meet their own needs, however niche those needs are, and somehow believe that complaining here will help accomplish that?

Or...do they merely want to sow discord?

Frankly, the vast majority of CR forum members are here to request and provide information, share techniques and images, etc.  CR is a great community resource, and like nearly all successful Internet forums, it attracts a few incessant complainers.   Look on the bright side – they provide some entertainment on slow rumor days...

I've never figured this out.  It happens with almost any product.  I'll see an article about a new iphone and most of the posts are from people criticizing it.  If I see an article, post, forum, etc. related to a product I don't want, use, or have an interest in, I don't read it, let alone leave negative comments.  What's up with these people?

Its that time of year when High School sports here in the U.S. really start to get busy.  Here are a few pics from a football game last night.  All shot with a 5d Mk III and 70-200 f/2.8L II.

That's the new regular price, not a "very limited" time. Did you not see the posting yesterday about the permanent price drops I posted on CR? Go to the Canon USA website and you will see $999 for this lens this morning.

so.... sales have slowed and they want to spur some activity?
or their profits are SO good they want to offer us a bit of a gift?

Good competition is always good for the consumer!  I hope all the other lens manufacturers keep improving their products and kicking them out at lower prices.  It will only force the big boys like Canon to either lower their prices or reduce the quality.  I don't see Canon doing the latter.
