EOS Bodies / Re: Canon 7D Mark II Info? [CR2]

How much? I bet it will be $2500! Too expensive IMO vs. other alternatives out here!

EOS Bodies / Re: How many cameras will they sell without it?
« on: May 13, 2012, 01:34:11 PM »
Today, Canon would not sell a DSLR without video in sufficient volume to recoup R&D costs.
Seriouly. Can you imagine if the 5DIII didn't have video (cause they were saving it for the Cine cameras)? People are already flipping out about DR, banding in shadows, a light leak "issue". Now take video away from the camera they've been waiting 3 years for and this forum would have imploded.

History will look upon MKIII as a FAIL. Just watch.

A few years ago dSLR with video were unheard of and the interest was not there. Today it is the opposite - all have the video.

I would like to see a very good dSLR body for photos (that is why it is called a camera and NOT a videocamera) at a reasonable price. The MKIII at $3500 before taxes is a JOKE!

Why can't they have a nice MKII upgrade for photos only at about $2500 or lower?

Reason: greed + ways of charging more for "features" some don't need...

I want choices at good prices!

I think you just need to try to wrap your head around the concept....that the video onboard these cameras...is NOT increasing the cost beyond your means.<P>
If you took the video capability off the 5D's.....they'd not drop a penny in price.

Exactly.

My point: greed

Canon now has an excuse, smoke and mirrors, to charge you $3500 because their camera does video as well... why $1500 between the MKII and MKIII - is MKIII worth that extra $1500?

Radiating - the fanboyism and ignorance you illustrate is beyond sad. No matter how much you want to convince yourself that MKIII is worth the money... it is NOT!

Canon might as well give up - Nikon is brewing a storm with their bodies these days! Great specs, great prices - they (Nikon) it addressing what the customers want.

Canon, unfortunately will release another half-assed "upgrade" and bump up the price!

There are losers born every second in this world...

EOS Bodies / Re: 5D3 capture sharpening routines

So what is the point in spending big $$$ of glass when the body underperforms (IQ) or sharpness-wise? Use photoshop or other tools to post sharp the images? Does this not defeat the whole idea of upgrading the body? I am confused? What are we supposed to celebrate or be hyped about?

Being $3500 poorer?

I wish the fat cats/directors/the board/the ones pulling the strings and direction of Canon would be as die hard fans as most of you here - they would do well. But unfortunately, the direction of Canon and their product launch is being dictated by $$$. They are in this for the $$$. If they could direct their focus, for just one moment, on delivering what the current Canon users want, maybe then.

The 7D NEEDS an update, I think it would be quite silly of Canon to either not replace it or take it slightly down market.  There needs to be an APS-C flagship if Canon is serious about staying with the format.

To be a proper APS-C flagship, the 7DII needs:

  • 100% viewfinder
  • Dual Digic V
  • The same 18MP sensor with improved DR
  • Clean ISO 12,800
  • 10 fps with a decently sized buffer
  • 61 pt AF from the 5DIII
  • The usual video improvements
  • I'd even consider a builtin portrait grip like the 1 series bodies
It would be a dream camera for those who can't afford the 1 series or need the extra reach of APS-C.  Charge $2-$2.5K and you have a winner. :)

Those are pretty attractive specs, but your$2-$2.5k idea is nothing more than a pipe dream. Do you really think they'd sell a body for $2k with those specs, especially after how they priced the 5D mark III?

*edit* You forgot f/8 to further canibalize 1D X sales  :P

simple: if Canon is too cheap and will not deliver a good body for a good price, there is always the alternative: Nikon - they are listening to the consumer's needs and are releasing really good bodies at lower prices than Canon...

I am Jewish, and I do support B&H for the same reasons. There are 5 working days during the week, and then there should be a rest day! Most North Americans don't have the concept of resting! They work 24/7 and wonder why they are so burned out! Take a break!

25
They brought it out because it was spec'd exactly the way I wanted it....and I could not wait any longer  :)

Would I have liked a better price?  Yes....but a few hundred USD are not a major issue, and I blame that more on the weak $, not, so much, Canon.

Greater DR at low ISO?  Maybe..?  But more as insurance against my not getting the correct exposure.  While intellectually it may seem nice to open up all the dark shadows, an image like that usually looks too artificial and is why we often tire of HDR....even if it is not garish.

More megapixels?  Always nice, but has trade offs....which I guess is true of pretty much all the specs.  It's like what we are told about tripods....if you want cheap, light, and sturdy, you can have any 2, but not all three.

In summary,I believe the 5D3 is an extremely well balanced system....and aim glad I jump on getting it right away (even if it is going to need some taping up).

John

The DR is VERY BAD on this body! What do you mean a maybe? Have you even seen how it compares to, say D800? It is like comparing a Fiat to a nice BMW when it comes to DR! The IQ across all kinds of situations is evident by the sensor!

If you are going to spend $3500 at least spend it on a worth-while body! Otherwise, stick with $500 cameras capable of raw - you will get the same IQ as the Canon 5D MKIII when it comes to noise, and DR.

It is beyond pathetic how some people can find reasons to justify their purchase! It is a bad purchase at that price! Something like that should have been priced at $2500, and they should have reduced the cost of 5D MKII to about $1800 - but they got greedy! Hiked the price of MKII by about $300 here in Canada!

I am not a stupid customer and will not budge just because they have a new body! Screw them! I am going to wait until the price for the quality is worthwhile. I am happy with my 40D which has better IQ than the 50D and 60D with the lenses I have!

26
Why did Canon Release the 5D MkIII?

To make a profit.  And guess what?  They will.  'Nuf said.

True, but you forgot the second part. To make a profit off the hype. The product is a marginal upgrade over the 5D MKII - NOT worth the upgrade and the cost! Only fanboys and die hard Canon individuals who are stuck with their system (ie. cannot sell all the glass) will auto-convince themselves that the new 5DMKII is heavenly mana... in a year from now it will become too painfully obvious even to the blind followers. Right now there are better alternatives out there at lower cost.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: What can I do with my old 350d?

Modify it for infrared photography and have some fun.

Cheers, Robert

NOOOOOOOOOO!!! use Photoshop for that! STOP destroying a good camera for the sake of "experimenting"? You seem to have forgotten the $$$ you paid for it... what has changed now? The camera can't take pictures anymore? It is the SAME camera with same IQ as way back then when you got it for big $$$

Donate it to some kid who enjoys photography! Give it to your parents!

28
Natural upgrade for the 7D owner would be a 1D4

Or a 7D with the new updated, God blessed, improved, squeaky-clean, fast, no-noise firmware update!!  :)

yeah - a few updates here and there but practically the same body... same IQ...

29
lower sales will be expected and they will change the way they release the bodies... right now they are milking this dead animal... once the $$$ stop coming in as budgeted, they will get a nice wake up call... until then, you the customer are losing out!
