I used my 450D until it died, then I used the 7D for 3 years, then I moved to the 5D3's and see no need to upgrade past it.

450D----->7D------------->5D3.

But before I did any body upgrades, I got my set of primes to use.

I started with the 450D (still have it...very low actuations). Then, got my present DSLR, the 7D. So, I guess I'm two-thirds done ;D

i shoot only landscapes

Where do you shoot your landscapes? Are you unhappy with your results now?

I don't understand guests at weddings who get all fancy dresses, makeup, haircuts, expensive suites and then don't want to be photographed. A lot of times they see that I am taking pictures of them and then turn their back to me. I know that i am shooting with Canon, but c'mon it does not hurt ;)

I had that too. I guess some people really don't want they pictures taken.

LOL...I'll bet these same people have facebook or other websites and publish photos of themselves all the time :)

how are they going to prevent me from selling that image?

Being in a different country does not necessarily prevent you from getting sued.
I don't think they will, but that's not the point.

Thanks for the input, and I'll watch the video listed above later this evening...
But seriously...how can someone "copyright" a public building?!?!

I just can't see how that would stand up in court.....

C

My understanding:
The building is not copyrighted...it's the light display at night which, under French law, is considered a work of art and, if used commercially, requires license fee. Daytime photos of the Eiffel Tower...shoot away all you want.

edit- source:Wikipedia
Image copyright claims

The tower and its representations have long been in the public domain. However, a French court ruled, in June 1990, that a special lighting display on the tower in 1989, for the tower's 100th anniversary, was an "original visual creation" protected by copyright. The Court of Cassation, France's judicial court of last resort, upheld the ruling in March 1992.[53] The Société d'exploitation de la tour Eiffel (SETE) now considers any illumination of the tower to be under copyright.[54] As a result, it is no longer legal to publish contemporary photographs of the tower at night without permission in France and some other countries.

The imposition of copyright has been controversial. The Director of Documentation for what was then the Société nouvelle d'exploitation de la tour Eiffel (SNTE), Stéphane Dieu, commented in January 2005, "It is really just a way to manage commercial use of the image, so that it isn't used in ways we don't approve." However, it also potentially has the effect of prohibiting tourist photographs of the tower at night from being published,[55] as well as hindering non-profit and semi-commercial publication of images of the tower. Besides, French doctrine and jurisprudence traditionally allow pictures incorporating a copyrighted work as long as their presence is incidental or accessory to the main represented subject,[56] a reasoning akin to the de minimis rule. Thus, SETE could not claim copyright on photographs or panoramas of Paris incorporating the lit tower.

Fantastic imagery from all over the world... It never ceases to blow me away.  I often have to force myself not to think about all the places I'll never see except in someone else's images from somewhere around the globe... Thanks everyone for sharing your world with us!   :D

Well said! 8)

Went out today to try and practice/learn BIF. Tried the suggestions made by this forum and I'm starting to improve and get some keepers (I hope).Best 3 out of about 60 tries (in some shots, the bird wasn't even in the frame :(). 7D, 70-200L/2.8 @100,130mm ISO100, TV 1/800s, Aperture 2.8-4.0, hand held, cropped, DPP. Comments to help me improve are welcome. Thanks. :)

Nice Job!  With my 7D I rarely shoot BIF under 1/1600th sec.  You may try that for even sharper imagery and ISO 200.

Have you tried changing your AF to the back button instead of the shutter button?  Also, just wondering what AF mode you're using?  Once I got used to panning and getting the bird in the image more often, I found the single AF point worked better for me than the expansion point... Expansion seems to capture a few more images but I found the single AF point will give me better, sharper images when I do get them in the viewfinder... Spot AF is very difficult to use for BIF on the 7D but great for static shots...

Looking forward to seeing more of your BIF work and the progress you're making.  Looks like you're off to a wonderful start!  Congratulations! :)

Thanks Ken.

I have been trying different settings. Those were TV priority @1/800 (I lowered the speed trying to get higher aperture for deeper DOF). Had auto ISO (thought it would get higher than 100). AI servo with manual select AF:zone AF (center zone). I was missing so many shots on expanded  point that I switched to zone. Need to practice more on panning so I can do single point AF. Had partial metering set for exposure.

I have never tried back button focus, but recently read on CR how useful it is. I will try to set my camera for that and learn how to do it. Thanks again for your advice. :)

You should buy the 500 or 800. They'll go well w/ your equipment. In fact get both so u never run short.

They don't have Sherpas in Iceland.

Very true...but, then again, they do have Vikings 8)

I took a 7D with a 100-400mm L, and got a couple of bird keepers. Here is a tern feeding its young.

That's a great shot Alan. Well done!

+1...really nice 8)

All you have to do is bring a counterfeit D800.  When the theives see your 1Dx and D800, they'll quickly steal the D800 due to its higher DR and RAW files, and will be satisfied so much that they'll concede your 1Dx.  Simple.

Hahaha....yesterday I was gonna post almost the same exact thought ;D
