Software & Accessories / Re: Nik Software worth it?
« on: March 25, 2013, 05:16:12 PM »
google bought nik a while back. today google unveiled the re-packaged version of the software. no changes to the software, only re-branded, and now the only purchase option is to buy the programs as a bundle for $150 rather than individually for a bit more than that. the discount coupon mentioned will probably be valid for a short time.

the nik programs are outstanding, in my opinion.

hi all

any working photographers out there, do you send out, say, postcard-sized promotional mailings, and if you do, what printing service do you use?

any other thoughts, comments or advice on mailings welcome

thanks very much!

1255 = 12:55am. one hour after air france leaves los angeles for papeete, a flight i've been lucky enough to be on several times. and also 15 minutes into a delayed british airways flight to heathrow, a flight i was on for work, though most people wouldn't consider it work. regardless, i looked at my watch, realized i wanted the freedom to have chosen the air france flight instead, and made the decision to give it a go on my own. i've used 1255 as a name ever since.

avatar = a photograph of an artwork made by a friend, shot on x-ray film.

i prefer anonymity, and i enjoy abstraction.

i have a friend that's been using a prototype for a few weeks now. he tells me it's not necessarily perfect but that it's really very interesting. this one is, apparently, worth watching.

i collect cameras, of all sorts, from all eras, and at one point or another i use all of them. sometimes i'll pick one and take it out for the day knowing that it may have certain limitations, which i consider a sort of challenge.

so yes, i am looking at the x20 and the x100s, in part because it appears that fuji reacted well to x10 and x100 user feedback. i may not buy either, but am intrigued enough to look and consider.

RX100.

I also have and often use a G15 and a G1X, but don't consider either to be true pocket cameras, although the G15 comes close.

Also still have and sometimes use an S95, but primarily because I bought an underwater housing for it and that's more or less become its exclusive use.

I understand those that mention handling difficulties with the RX100, but I personally haven't found it to be a true problem, I just taught myself how to handle it without dropping it (not that hard), and have been very pleased with image quality for a camera that actually does fit in your pocket. I have successfully produced and sold relatively large prints from it. Better, in my opinion, than those produced from either the G15 or the G1X.

Bottom line, for me, RX100, followed by S100 (agree with Neuro on S110).

That's not a plan to get a 5DIII for $1, that's a plan for someone else to get a 5DIII for $1.

What you do is run the contest with a $7000 goal, that way you and 'one lucky winner' get a 5DIII. But you didn't hear that idea from me.  :-X

smart, and funny
