EOS Bodies / No RAW support for the 6D in DPP.....shame
« on: December 05, 2012, 05:42:49 AM »
I posted yesterday to ask if anyone had link to a serious review of the 6D. Marsu42 reminded me that tests take time (he's right) and that we must wait for a Raw converter to get answers.

It took me some time, but then I realized Canon is selling the 6D WITHOUT having updated DPP. I can understand that Adobe or DxO need time to release an update for their RAW engine, but that Canon is selling a new 2000$ DSLR without a proper DPP is for me simply shocking. It's a bit like selling a brand new  car that is limited to 20Mph until its fixed....soon.

I find the commercial method unacceptable, such a camera should not hit the stores without a RAW converter. The 6d will likely be a very decent camera, but without RAW, it's a beta version of a product. Will we soon be buying non working cameras where the firmware will be released 1 month later ?

That was my complain of the day, feel free to comment..

EOS Bodies / Can't find a pro review of the 6D yet
« on: December 04, 2012, 06:07:53 AM »
Strangely I couldn't find any professional review of the 6D (by pro I my something like DPreview), not the usual Youtube unboxing, or the blog type hands on. Something with a bit more info than it's small, has 20Mpx and the Wifi.

This is very odd since it seems a lot of people got their camera, and still, no official review yet ?

I you have links, please post....

Lenses / Anyone longing for 45mm and 90mm TS-E replacement ?
« on: November 29, 2012, 10:44:17 AM »
I just wondered if I am the only one longing for an upgrade of the 45mm and 90mm TS-E lenses.

I have the 17mm, 24mm Mk2, and 90mm, and I would have a good use for a 45mm TS-E. I tried one some time ago and was not so impressed by the optical quality, it's OK but far from stunning.

The separate tilt and shift of the 17 and 24 v2 add a lot of versatility to the lens. The 90mm is excellent but could use the same mechanical improvement, as well as a bit of extra sharpness and a 1:2 macro reproduction. The 45mm may be the only TS that's a bit less good than Nikon's equivalent, better IQ is needed.

With Canon refreshing the old EF 24,28 and 35mm, I think the 45 and 90TS-Es will be the oldest lenses in the catalogue (aside from the 50mm compact macro and the 135mm Soft Focus).

I wonder if I should buy the 45 TS-E now or wait for a replacement, that I hope will come soon.

Lenses / 85mm f1.2L II and 40mm f2.8 focus by wire
« on: October 24, 2012, 08:22:25 AM »
Hello, just a simple question, about the focus by wire. If I got it right, it means that you can only manual focus the lens when the camera is powered and metering, right ?

So it means that as soon as the metering goes off, you can't focus manually any more until you half press the shutter again?

Do you know any other lens than the 85mm 1.2L (II) and the 40mm f2.8, who share the same focus by wire mode ?

I was about to buy the 40mm but this is an absolute NO GO for me, since I use manual focusing a lot. Any information would help....

Video & Movie / 1DC vs C300/C500 for pro video
« on: October 11, 2012, 07:10:57 AM »
Question : I am mostly ignorant about video matters, can someone explain the interest of a 1DC camera versus a C300/C500 dedicated video camera?

No irony here, just an honest question, I don't understand the advantage of a DSLR for pro video.
