Lenses / Re: Budget lens for birding ?
« on: April 20, 2013, 06:31:53 PM »
The push me pull me is a dust hog. Birding is field photography ergo I find the 400 prime a better selection.

Yes, for years I have used them in the 7D and 5D3. Never a problem.

I'm not shooting mine, it's sitting right next to the last Twinkie.

The Twinks are coming back. Kodachrome isn't!

I think you might be best served not calling them twinks.

Lenses / Lenses for WDW
« on: April 18, 2013, 08:16:29 PM »
I'll be going to WDW the end of this summer for my family's first time. I've been to DLand over 30 times and know what to bring there but when you factor in Epcot, Animal Kingdom etc I thought I might ask some seasoned pros. I would probably like to bring 2 lenses (maybe 3 tops) and one would be a 70-200 for the Animal stuff.

Here's what I have:
16-35
24-105
40
50
100 Macro
70-200 2.8

Thanks

Lenses / Re: Street Photography 35mm/50mm + DC?Help
« on: April 18, 2013, 07:13:07 PM »
The shorty is a great piece of glass for street. Long end of wide and short end of normal. Unobtrusive and even makes a 5D3 look plain. Put it on Silent mode and shoot from the hip. I walk around with this setup on a handstrap and shoot in portrait quite frequently.

Lenses / Re: I have just lost confidence with Canon Rumors & B&H
« on: April 17, 2013, 06:14:30 AM »
I see her point, it is misleading. However it takes a bit of reading, watching and retail detective work (let alone knowledge of how this historically is played out most seasons/years) to get a grip on what's being done by B&H in regards to MAP and Rebates.

It's like reading headlines vs the body of an article.

I do however think she is overreacting.

Canon General / Re: How do you buy equipment?
« on: April 16, 2013, 09:31:13 AM »
Since all the local shops here have zero to no selection of finer gear I buy almost exclusively from B&H. During the past two years I did quite a bit of selling bodies and glass to fund new buys and with Canon gear having 95% of original cost resale value for like new gear it has been easy to do so. Now I'm in a happy place with what I have with little to no gear lust save for a new film body. (Thinking of switching from an Elan 7 to an EOS 3) I do use a card for my purchases but we pay all our bills off every two weeks. Credit card companies hate us.

Third Party Manufacturers / Why stop with Nikon?
« on: April 15, 2013, 09:00:04 AM »
I'm boycotting the following:

dirty sensors
dust on filters
disembodied hands in pics
Canon Haters
Nikon Haters
Film Haters
Folks who think noobs shouldn't buy top notch gear
flare, unless artistically shot
older gay men on Model Mayhem who are cruising

Site Information / Re: Minimum CR Forum IQ?
« on: April 11, 2013, 04:23:32 PM »
Methinks the IQ test should include the following:

Q. Does the 1DX have a green box?

Q. Maximum number of days until Canon might release the 5D3 firmware?

Q. How many Canon's have had the same 18MP sensor?

Q. Why isn't there a left handed DSLR?

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon EOS 1DX Junk camera??

You need two 1DX's. One in each hand for each eye. What was Camera Store Man thinking?

Buy an insert, such as a domke or mountainsmith and stick it in practically anything.

They still have 28 more days.

Lenses / Re: small primes to go with SL1?
« on: March 23, 2013, 01:26:05 PM »
My choices would be

Sigma 35 1.4
Canon 24/28/35 IS primes.
Canon 85 1.8/Canon 100 f/2

None of these are huge and all are very good to excellent
