EOS Bodies / Re: Canon EF Lens Speculation [CR1]

All I really want is true ring USM in the 50 1.4.  They need to move forward on all the non USM and  micro motors left in the lineup sans the STM line.

But an update to the primepipes would be nice.

Really? No one got the noisy bird joke but me? Buncha scientists and engineers not photographers!

At least if we are going to be teased they could have posted the announcement with a pair of those cute and perky Japanese trade show girls. Oh yeah, this isn't Engadget.

I'd reject that 2nd bird if I was a moderator.

We're going to need to pop a lot of popcorn for the next 6 months.

You can throw all the science at this and yadda yadda yadda all you want but for someone who has just made the leap, the answer is YES.

Lenses / Re: Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 Pancake
« on: October 22, 2012, 05:57:47 PM »
Just upgraded the firmware and it went without a hitch. I 2nd what Neuro says, plus it gives me more options to take along my camera when I mightnot have otherwise due to space/bulk or not wanting a camera bag. I really like 40mm. Right in between wide and portrait. With the 5D3 and higher ISO keepers I don't mind that it's not super fast either. Good call Canon.

Mine has been flawless on my 5D3 without the update but has been locking up on my film bodies….arggggh!

If we're going the route of telling folks to use a kit lens over an L series (I know this is on a crop and not the best scenario for an UWA zoom!) than just throw your camera gear in a bin and shoot with your phone.

Someone must have made you a custom 18-55 with a circular 9 blade aperture, Super UD elements and 18 elements in 13 groups!

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Kirk PZ-148
« on: October 19, 2012, 07:51:08 PM »
Anyone using the Kirk PZ-148 plate for the 5D3 and a hand strap? I have one on the way and was wondering if it's the wonder solution I've been looking for. I hope the fit is flush with the contours and the hand strap doesn't loosen the plate.

Film is not dead and your passion is a testament to that. Keep it in the Canon family and all your lenses are swappable. Now that I'm shooting FF I have so many less issues with swapping back and forth from digital to analog. You don't have a problem you have an opportunity.

The way the 5D2 kit is selling (and get them while you can) I'd go for one of those. Get your body and sweet glass all at the same time. Have you considered the CLP?

Canon General / Re: Rockwell knocks one out of the park (no kidding)!

It doesn't matter what camera you have. I have taken and produced much better work from my Elan 7 and my darkroom skills than I ever have with my 7D and L lenses.

Then take your Elan 7 out and shoot 1/2000s, ISO 25,600, f/2.8 on a 300 f/2.8L, get a rapid fire shot of an interception and print out 8 x 10's.  The camera will suddenly and mysteriously matter.  By the way, there is a camera today that will do that easily.  A CAMERA.

Sorry this is about art not an assignment some smartass gives me. Your response is whacked on so many levels.
