Lenses / Re: Advice on Telephoto Lens
« on: April 30, 2012, 01:54:48 PM »
Nothing short of a several thousand dollar supertele will get you there while maintaining f/2.8.  But, the reduced ISO noise with FF should make up for that.  Putting a 1.4x TC on your 70-200/2.8 II would get most of your lost 'reach' back, and the IQ hit isn't too bad with the 70-200 II (I find even the 2x produces usable results, rare for a zoom).  Althernatively, consider the 70-300L - smaller than your 70-200/2.8, if you can live with two stops higher ISO for f/5.6 you get 300mm and excellent IQ, along with great IS.

Exactly.  Remember, you can also crop fairly significantly from the 5D3

This is great!  Ive seen some other 3M glass that was similar.  Its funny how we see this technology then it just vanishes!  Lets hope this stuff makes its way to the consumer side!

The mark 2 is incredible.  I purchased one when it first came out, and was so surprised by the IQ, focus speed and IS, that I immediately sold my V1 70-200 2.8 is usm.

If you are shooting with the 5D3.  I HIGHLY recommend spending the extra money.  And you will use it more than the 135.

Lenses / Re: Vignetting problem on 24-105mm
« on: April 30, 2012, 01:46:46 PM »
That doesn't seem normal.  An improperly mounted hood can cause that, as can stacked filters.  The fact that you're seeing it only in one corner, assuming it's not the hood, suggests some decentering in the lens (i.e. service needed).

My first thought was twisted lens hood as well.  Or stacked filter.  Is this a once off thing or does it happen on every photo at this focal length?  Have you tried with the lens hood removed and no filters?

I actually just sent my 24-105 in for repair.  Something came loose inside and it jammed.  Wouldn't close past 35mm.

They all look terrible. Its obvious that light was leaking through the LCD.  You must have forgotten to turn your backlight off...

Always use a lens hood.  I figure someone should mention that in this thread...

I think we need to have a complainer forum.  These threads are getting ridiculous.  too many people who have never used a camera causing a big stink for everyone else.

The 85 is a great lens.  I can see some improvements with regards to Video compatibility when V3 is released.

Get the Zeiss.  Your camera will work just fine in the cold.  Just bring lots of batteries.

There will always be a need for large lenses.
