EOS Bodies / Re: Two New Full Frame Cameras in 2014? [CR1]
« on: November 28, 2013, 04:51:44 PM »
Well, the big MP camera is the first obvious camera.  But I thought the new 5D would come out in late 2014. Hmm..

I think the 6D is going to be refreshed then.  It may be the FF equivalent of the Rebel.  A refresh every year or so...

Third Party Manufacturers / Re: DXOMark: Zeiss Otus 55mm f/1.4

I was already impressed with this lens based on reviews from some other review sites that I usually go to instead of DXOMark. I  would definitely get this lens if I could afford it. But I am still happy with my 50L and Zeiss f/1.4 ZE Planar T.

Yes,

I love my Zeiss 50mm f1.4 too. I think it's a good thing I can't even afford the rental price of the Otis!

I've seen pics taken with the 50mm f1.  It's 'interesting' but a total niche lens.  A nice toy but I don't see any real practical applications for it.  Shoot in the dark?  Um, why?  I can see a landscape photographer that would want a 15mm f1 or a researcher needing a 400mm f1 for researching the nocturnal patterns of some endangered species...  But for everyone else?

In real world usage, the Canon 50mm f1 and Zeis Otus 55mm f1.4 are completely different beasts.

When did this turn into a marketing thread?   :P

Everything that Canon is doing right now leads me to believe that this big MP is going to be one bad-ass camera  ;D  New lenses to support it, CFast, big MP, competing with the Nikon D4X.  Amazing camera!

I can't even think about this camera until 2015...  But the best is worth waiting for   ;D

Canon General / Re: New Technology Coming to Cinema EOS

I was wondering if Canon was going to use CFast anytime soon.  That's some serious throughput.  But even with UDMA cards maxing out at 150MB/sec, you'll only get a top speed of 5fps on a shutter.  Tops.  While that trumps the Nikon. It's still 5fps.  We're only going to keep putting more data through the camera.  With a top speed of 350MB/s, there's plenty of room for growth opportunity in CFast.

Standardizing their top end cameras on CFast would be an excellent long-term strategy.

Love this thing..  50mm is where I shoot 90% of the time.  Regardless of what others will tell you..  It's a damn fine focal length for shooting portraits.  And many other things.  Every photographer should have a 50mm in their pack.

I've used many a 50mm and settled on my Zeiss 50mm f1.4.  Amazing quality and nothing else will do for its image characteristics.  Contrast, bokeh and one of the sharpest lens from f4 on.  A gorgeous portrait lens from f2 - f2.8, fantastic event and landscape from f4 on...  Incredibly dynamic.

The Otus is definitely on my list..  But probably not until 2015.  And only if Canon has a body for it that is truly a competitor to the D800 and more importantly:  Medium Format

Expensive?  Only if you don't value 50mm and the level of performance it brings.  Especially if you're making money with it.

Okay..  Not lame.  Totally wrong.  I actually like it.  I don't think I'd buy a camera in white.  But it's certainly stylish. Wouldn't mind a pro dslr with some Ferrari red accents  :-P

Not surprised for this segment. That dual-pixel tech is quite amazing. The camera made it on Popular Photography's best for 2013. Good stuff.

EF 28-300mm f2.8 - f4

That's pretty much it for me.  The 28-300mm f3.5L is awesome.  But it's serious bank and size.  I don't need 'L' for lower paying events.  I LOVE the EF-S 18-200.  But I want to get away from crop cameras for simplicity's sake.
A hypothetical EF 28-300 F2.8-4L IS, would have a lot of glass, and could weigh 2 kg and cost over $ 3000. I think it makes more sense an EF 28-200mm F4 IS, which could cost about $ 1000, and would be much more portable. There is market for lenses like the EF-S18-250mm, although I do not get excited about this type of lens.

I could live with f4 if I got 300mm.  200mm isn't enough for a staged events.  I'd get a 7D just so I could get really good IQ with the EF-S 18-200mm...  One of Canon's best lens despite not being 'L'....

Very good deal.  If only I had $1900   :-*

I bought my 5D MKII from buydig.com and had zero issues.  Good service.

Actually, I read in a Popular Mechanics - type magazine just a few minutes ago that a TV maker will be coming out with a 4k resolution monitor in 2014..  For $1500.

Don't think this is going to sell quite as well as hoped...   ;)

Yes.  I think it's a new Rebel.  Kinda a yawner.  Though if it has the 70D sensor and AF, that would be a great thing.

It's an 'okay' looking camera. It might even be better looking than the Sony A7(R) cameras.  Maybe.  But the Sony's have much better specs, do video AND are less expensive.  Am I missing something?

I agree.  If it were an APS-C sensor and costing around $1200, it would be a fun and cute camera to have.  Even with FF, it's incredibly overpriced.  $1800 tops.

Sorry Nikon.  Thanks for trying at least.   :'(
