So does anyone know if dealers honor the actual rebates or is this only from Canon direct? The 6D + 24-105 lens package has a $200 rebate bringing it down to $2399. But it's already $2399 from B+H and Amazon. Will they still give the $200 off? Just not super clear how it works. And this is the camera that I have been thinking of upgrading to.

No, you won't get the rebate on top of the current discount prices.  They'll raise the price then apply the rebate, maybe prices will be $50 less than current on higher end items, maybe no change after the rebate.

Expect sub $2k for 24-70II AND 70-200II. just got my 24-70II today. Maybe I'll need to call the dealer if the price does drop significantly.

May I ask what's yours?

I'd take the most expensive lens as it costs the most to replace the most expensive one unless it is some exotic lens that has been out of production for years.

My dear 20D + 16-35 2.8L combo recorded some of most beautiful and memorable moments in my life.

5D3, man, is much much better in every aspect. I haven't really touched my 20D since I got the 5D3. In the 20D era, my 28-70 was pretty much collecting dusts in the closet. Now it shines again and is the most used lens on my 5D3.

Do check if there is any dead pixel. My first one (received in March) had 6. I returned it and had to wait for two months before getting the replacement (yeah, it was that hot at that time, and at $3,500).

Get more scratches, then you'll forget about them being there. I scratched my 1v on the first day. It did bother me for a couple of days, then there were more, and more...

Having been thinking about the 35 1.4 for a while, I was wondering how much time would the 35 1.4 owners shoot at f2 or wider? I shoot at wide open a lot except for the 50 1.4. Any info is appreciated.

If the testing results are so much sensitive to the lighting conditions, then in the real world shooting where the lighting condition can rarely be as ideal as the testing condition, would minor inconsistency in the AFMA results matter at all?  I've done a few rounds of tests on all my lenses and I had hard time keeping my lighting conditions consistent so I got slightly different results every time. It was kind of frustrating. So I ended up picking an average value and moving on.

Neuro, et al I'd appreciate you shedding some light on this. Would +/- 5 units be siginificant enough to make any difference in the real world shooting?

Buy what you NEED now. I childishly but sincerely wish the IS version could push price for the the non IS version down  to $1600- $1800 range. Then I'll go buy the non IS version in a heart beat.

If you can keep the 5D2 and 24-70. Also keep the 580 if possible. You are going to need a nice flash for taking photos of your baby.

White balance under artificial lighting conditions is tricky sometimes. Give it more testing and you will love your camera.

1999: my first SLR EOS Élan IIE with a kit lens while in grad school.
2002: EOS 1v, 28-70, 550EX, Gitzo tripod, B1 ball head after working as an engineer for two years.
2003: 50 1.4
2005: 20D, 16-35 (on 20D most of the time)
2007: 70-200 2.8 IS
2009: 100 2.8L IS Macro
2012: 5D3, 70-200 2.8 II, 660EX-RT, 40 pancake, sold 70-200 IS I and 550 EX
2013: maybe a 50 1.4 IS, 24-70 II or a second RT flash.

Then I should be set for a while.
