Pricewatch Deals / Re: Canon EOS 60D Body $799 at B&H
« on: November 24, 2012, 11:27:02 AM »
The Canon "Refub" site had them for $599.  That's as cheap as I've found.  I bought one last month from Canon for $695, and it was firmware updated and the shutter count was 25.

So far I have added another 7000 to the shutter count, and it's near perfect... as far as I can tell.

Lenses / Re: New EF-S Lenses Are Coming [CR2]

What is the advantage of EF-S glass?

I have heard that crop sensors have better focus in the middle of the lens on an EF mount.  Does this mean it can take full advantage of the entire lens in an EF-S type mount?

If you can hold out, you might want to wait for the 24-70mm f/4 lens.  It will have IS, which may off set the price to be close to the f/2.8, but who can say.

Canon General / Re: Canon's MAP Pricing Goes Into Full Effect Today

LOL!  Looks like the stock holders have spoken!

My suspicions that the great pricing was set by the market and NOT the company have been confirmed.  Another black eye for capitalism.   :o

It would appear that is still doesn't save you money to be first on the block...

Are these prices set by Canon or by the seller, or by "the market"?

IF BY CANON:  I am sure after stock numbers came out, Canon wanted to correct that shortage.  Of the list of things they COULD do, dropping the price of their new releases was probably the easiest.  (Presumably because they were over priced to begin with?)

You have to think they knew before the call they were not going to make the $1 billion mark, so why not raised prices on new releases and crossed their fingers.

I have heard that sales of Compact System Cameras is big in Asia, and that can't be helping.

Concerning the f/8 auto focus - I ran into this on my 60D using a 100-400mm and a Tamron 1.4x teleconverter.  I was able to auto focus at f/8 and was surprised.

Was this a drawback on the original 1Dx firmware or a bump-up for the 60D on IT'S last firmware update?

Third Party Manufacturers / Re: 6D Need To Change Something..

I hope the reviews on this site are not going to be like this...

It seems we all want a 5DMk3 at Rebel prices...  wouldn't that be nice.

Go buy the camera you think is better and send me your 6D.

You could just rent both lenses and make your own determinations...

Pricewatch Deals / Re: Big Canon EOS 5D Mark II Price Drop Coming
« on: September 29, 2012, 08:18:26 PM »
Is a "price drop" based on Canon's distribution chain, or does it reflect market place values?

I just picked up a refurbished 60D from Canon for under $700 USD (out the door).  They kicked off a 20% sale on refurb items.  This was THE cheapest price I could find on a used unit from a source I trust.  It has the latest firmware update installed and the shutter actuation was set to 1 (one)... I guess they test fired it.

I could find this camera new for about the same price, but from not so reputable/trusted sources.  I'm sure many of you know this already, but I, for one, am happy with the Canon store, it's pricing, and delivery time (less than a week).

EOS Bodies / Re: Who really is the target demographic for the 6D?

I am still of the belief that full frames are going to be the antithesis of the new mirror-less and compact system cameras.

As far as the Canon lineup goes... it would be nice if there were more of a price range for full frame bodies like there is for APS-C bodies.  At least have beginner, intermediate and advanced lines.  Heck, I dug out my Rebel 2000 35mm film camera to shoot "full frame", that's how bad I want a taste of it.

I wonder if this break threw will help for other older model cameras... 1000D aka. Rebel XS  ;)

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon EOS 6D Official Specs

Well... I think this camera sounds fine!  It isn't too spiffy, and it isn't a PoS either.  Now all we have to do is wait for the "shake down" to see what manufacturing problems crop up.  :(

This is on my short list anyway...  So many choices, so little money.

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon EOS 6D Specs Leaked?

It just looks like Canon wants everything on a DIGIC5 processor for now.  Most likely for manufacturing ease.

I would think if you have a camera that is less than 2-3 years old, these new bodies are not that important.  I hope Canon can get a hold of the "growing pains" with the new cameras.  Some of this stuff is so weird... namely the rubber on the T4i.

At least on paper, the T4i looks as good as the 60D, but only use and familiarity with both will tell the truth on that matter.  This 6D looks compelling to me, and full frames may be the trump card for DSLRs in answer to the popularity of Compact System Cameras and the mirror-less bodies.  I had hear that CSCs are making up 50% of the Asian market now.  That has got to be effecting DSLR makers future decision making...  even if they do sell BOTH types of camera.

This camera looks good to me.  I ran the original page threw Google translate:

I like the GPS and WiFi feature in addition to the rest.  Of course anything is a step up from a Rebel XS!
