EOS Bodies - For Video / Re: 100 L 2.8 macro for video?
« on: August 23, 2012, 12:31:43 PM »
I'm no expert either but all the people that I know that do a lot of hand held video use lenses with IS since it really will make a huge difference.
You can find comparisons on the you tube but I'm sure you know the shakes will be gone with IS.

When I do video I use my 24-104 and since you know you need more than f/4 I'd bet the 100mm macro you are looking at would work great, as long as it is fast enough. Plus you will have an awesome weather sealed macro and that can come in handy too.

Are you swapping the screen yourself or did you have it installed?

Here it is again - not sure why it is different

It's the same thing. I've read that Chrome always considers that photos are sRGB.

Here's a photo exported with ProPhoto (I'm curious if it works). Yuck, it doesn't! It's green as hell.

Okay, here's the same photo exported with aRGB. It doesn't work, but the colors are interesting. The orange is muted.

And below is exported with sRGB.

(Oh, they have EXIF: 40D, 70-200 F4 IS)

Chrome is not a color managed browser. IE9, Safari 5 and the latest versions of Firefox are. That is why your color in Chrome (and I see the same too) look crappy. Ditch Chrome.

I never noticed until I read this but comparing IE and Chrome side by side it is obvious.

EOS Bodies / Re: Buying 5D Mark III from Amazon???

tphillips - can you tell me how you got the deal at 3299 ? was it a bundled deal with lenses ? also do they charge you taxes at Dell ? B&H doesn't...

I called in and asked about it and asked for their best price and they told me 3299 so I said ok lets get it on order.
This was the body only, it took about two weeks to arrive and showed not stock when I ordered it.  Dell charges tax in Texas for sure but I do not know of other locations.  B&H does not charge tax in Texas as of today.

I have one of these Timbuktu Snoop Camera messenger bags that will hold everything you mentioned easily since I carry pretty much the same in mine daily.
I have the medium sized bag and it is not inexpensive but has a lot of great features.

Great question and answers all.  I did not even realize I needed a case like that until I read this thread and saw the suggestions.

I've been a prime member for years and buy a lot of items from/through them and I've never had an issue.  From TV's to cameras, computers, anything.  If you need a return they really are awesome as well as for replacements.
Tax is a new issues for many Amazon customers so you should take that into account as nairfotografia posted, B&H is really good too and there are many others.
If you look at the Amazon price you can see many small shops selling through the Amazon stores as agents and the price will show you it is Amazon, Abe's, or any other store selling the camera or item.

I got mine for 3299 from Dell but I called in for the price, the web had 3499.

EOS Bodies / Re: Should I get 7D now or wait for MKII?
« on: July 09, 2012, 02:19:20 PM »
My suggestion is get the 7D now with a used 24-105mm f/4L IS USM.  They are available for a great price on the used market, even though a lot are like new because of kit bundles.

Then use it as much as you can and figure out what you would like to shoot that you cannot with that combination.

You'll need or want a strobe(s) and memory card(s), maybe an extra battery on hand, case, tripod, filters, grip, etc., so the price beyond 'just' the body and lens can get quite high.

I did not know about the speed issue on SDHC cards so I sent the two I had ordered back and am currently using only the CF, Sandisk Extreme PRO UDMA 6, cards.
Maybe I am just lucky because I bought the Eye-Fi 8GB card but have not used it yet.
