I like the Powershot G15 :)

I call the 6D the "warmed up 5D2". Slightly microwaved in a BPA-free container ;) Its not a knock on the Camera, when they sell it for $1299 in a year during Christmas, I promise to pick one up :P

I'd probably have a take a good look at that deal too if it happens!

Regarding the 5D Mark II, with it being EOL, how does that affect peoples decision VS the 6D?

Lenses / Re: 2x EF Extender III or ???
« on: December 11, 2012, 08:33:53 PM »
I just went through this myself and purchased the 2x EF Extender III.
I was considering the EF 400 f/5.6 not the 100-400 but same issues basically and am glad that I got the converter.

It is a lot heavier combo than I thought but for occasional use it is a great option and I'll probably get the 1.4x before I get another longer lens.

You could always see if you can borrow one or go to a nice local shop and try it out, maybe rent with rental amount to purchase if you decide to do that but from all the advice of others a lot more experienced with these I went with the converter first.

I know, that is why I said pixel peeping, which was not possible back in the day when everything was printed, usually no larger than 11x14 and most of the time way smaller.
With a computer it is so easy to look at images very large and think, it is very noisy, but they print fine.
I see many shots on the web or even in print from the 7D that I think are great.
Still, I like the images with the full frame better so OP will too.

Maybe it is pixel peeping, I don't know but I know with the full frame sensor I am much more satisfied in the pictures I get.  I feel they are more, film quality.
Film quality?  35mm film was never that good.  :)

I was never happy with the noise from my 7D and when the 5D Mark III was announced I ordered one and love its results.
I did not know the 6D was coming out but am glad I went to the full frame model.  As Neuro's shots show, there is a huge difference.

I am also coming from being out of photography through the initial digital years and last used a Minolta Maxim 7xi about ten years before I got the 7D.

Maybe a bit off topic but since I do have this lens and a 7D, and recently bought a 5D MkIII, all I can say is, I don't use the 7D much any more.
My ideas of 'moving up' to full frame pretty much went away when I like the shots from the 5D MkIII so much better than pretty much anything I get from the 7D.

I have seen great 7D shots but to me the noise is a lot higher than the 5D MkIII, otherwise I did like the lens on both but I also like the 24-105 better even though it is 'only' f/4.

In other words, get a larger sensor, you will really like it if you can get one.

Lenses / Re: Should I sell my 70-200L vii for the 85mm 1.2?

Since you have decided what to do, just don;t sell it for the first low ball offer, take your time with it and get what you want determine is a good fair price.

It does sound like you prefer the primes so I am sure you be be delighted when you get them.

Canon 7D - Hardcore Durability Test

7D durability, survived major abuse and kept working.  This link has been posted in the past here.

As for drying, if the sun is out a car is a good place, not in direct sunlight of course, and even in the house the longer you can wait the better.  Air drying evaporation is best.

I hope not much gets messed up for you.

EOS Bodies - For Video / Re: 100 L 2.8 macro for video?

I'm no expert either but all the people that I know that do a lot of hand held video use lenses with IS since it really will make a huge difference.
You can find comparisons on the you tube but I'm sure you know the shakes will be gone with IS.

When I do video I use my 24-104 and since you know you need more than f/4 I'd bet the 100mm macro you are looking at would work great, as long as it is fast enough. Plus you will have an awesome weather sealed macro and that can come in handy too.

Are you swapping the screen yourself or did you have it installed?

Here it is again - not sure why it is different

It's the same thing. I've read that Chrome always considers that photos are sRGB.

Here's a photo exported with ProPhoto (I'm curious if it works). Yuck, it doesn't! It's green as hell.

Okay, here's the same photo exported with aRGB. It doesn't work, but the colors are interesting. The orange is muted.

And below is exported with sRGB.

(Oh, they have EXIF: 40D, 70-200 F4 IS)

Chrome is not a color managed browser. IE9, Safari 5 and the latest versions of Firefox are. That is why your color in Chrome (and I see the same too) look crappy. Ditch Chrome.

I never noticed until I read this but comparing IE and Chrome side by side it is obvious.

tphillips - can you tell me how you got the deal at 3299 ? was it a bundled deal with lenses ? also do they charge you taxes at Dell ? B&H doesn't...

I called in and asked about it and asked for their best price and they told me 3299 so I said ok lets get it on order.
This was the body only, it took about two weeks to arrive and showed not stock when I ordered it.  Dell charges tax in Texas for sure but I do not know of other locations.  B&H does not charge tax in Texas as of today.

I have one of these Timbuktu Snoop Camera messenger bags that will hold everything you mentioned easily since I carry pretty much the same in mine daily.
I have the medium sized bag and it is not inexpensive but has a lot of great features.
