EOS Bodies / Re: 21mp Sensor in the 7D Mark II? [CR1]
« on: April 21, 2013, 01:51:59 AM »
The technology is here. And the fact is, that that is the only thing we now.

See the sensor in 5D m3 with high ISO performance and good IQ, the 6D with WiFi and GPS, the 7D with fair weather sealing and high fps and several Canon cameras with video technology and the AF tech ass well and so on.

From a Canon board and share holder point of view the most important thing is to get as much money out us as possible. Period!

This means that we will get the new tech in small steps so we will buy a lot of cameras.
ONLY the competition will give us a camera with all known tech in ONE camera.

So pleeeeease Nikon, Sony, Panasonic and all you other great camera manufactors make dam good cameras in a dam  hurry!

For me to buy a 7DII, sensor performance will need to be greatly improved.  I don't care about being able to push an underexposed shot 5-stops, it's just not the way I shoot.  I do want better tonal transitions and cleaner low and high ISO performance.  The thing that stands out to me is how "durable" APS-H and FF Canon raw files seem to be compared to APS-C files.  My 7D files require more sharpening and more overall PP compared to FF raw files, and that's understood, but when I do PP aggressively, the images start to fall apart pretty fast.  If that can be improved, I'll stick with APS-C because I'm still reach limited, otherwise, I'll keep my 7D and add a FF body....

EOS Bodies / Re: Announcements on March 22, 2013? [CR1]
« on: March 08, 2013, 01:34:13 AM »
That's a hard one to say.... Remember the powershot N, anounced January 7, still not in stores.....

I have seen everything from on sale the day it was anounced to lenses that were anounced 2 years ago and we still have not seen.

My guess would be about a month or two delay between announcement and release.

A month or two if we're lucky, I know about the Tsunami, production issues, etc.  But Nikon has new equipment shipping almost immediately after they announce it.  Canon, a much larger company with far greater resources can't seem to release anything on time.  I just don't get it.

I'm waiting for the 70D release because Canon MUST have an all new sensor by now.  I can't imagine them going with the same 18MP sensor they've been using since 09, but I've been wrong before....

still yawning and still waiting for a FF MILC, 1st company to do it gets my money.  High performance APS-C DSLR for sports & wildlife + relatively compact FF mirrorless for street and portraits is my idea setup...

I'd love to see what kind of margins Canon makes on those great whites. :)

sure, there are plenty of theoretical combinations that would could surmise as more flexible.  I'm talking about pitted against current, real-world lenses, it's the most flexible bird+sport lens on the market.  plus, I'd disagree that a 200-400 f/2.8 wouldn't be hindered by its massive size.  even for field sports, you want to be able to move (even more so with birding), and just because it's on a monopod or tripod doesn't mean that mass and inertia become meaningless.

I don't entirely disagree with you.  This lens is Canon's long overdue answer to Nikon's 200-400 and throwing in the builtin tc is a pretty good display of one-upmanship.  I'm sure it will have stellar optics and f4 was probably the best tradeoff between speed and "portability".  But I guarantee you if someone built my theoretical fast 200-400, you'd see it on the sidelines and out in the wild.  I'd just spend an extra hour per week in the gym, although I don't consider any of the superteles all that heavy. :D

actually, I know a lot of bird and sports shooters that would love to have this lens.  it's pretty much the ultimate long lens in terms of flexibility, first between having the 200-400 zoom range, and then being able to throw in a 1.4x extender without having to unmount the camera, attach the extender, and then remount the camera.

It's a versatile lens no doubt, but I wouldn't consider it the "ultimate".  I think the ultimate would be a 200-400 f2.8 with no builtin tc.  Sure it would be an absolutely massive lens, but a fast 200-400 for big field sports would let you shoot all day and well into the evening with amazing subject isolation.  Throw on your own 2x tc and you've got yourself a killer birding lens at 400-800 f5.6.  Now that's a lens I could see myself selling a car for :D

The 200-400 is exciting, but I'm still saving for the 400 2.8....

I can't say I'm surprised if this is true, Canon knows EVERYONE was expecting the 24-70II to have IS.  MSRP will be over $3k for sure....

Also, that means another line of FF mirrorless lenses...*shiver*
Yeah, thats really the piece that makes this technology pretty far off. To actually release a full-frame mirrorless camera with all the lens options a pro would want (fast zooms, primes, tilt-shifts, super teles, etc), it'd take them years to fill out the line. Even if they release the body in the next year, it's probably 3-4yrs down the line until its a viable option as a system. That also assumes 3rd party manufacturers get behind it, otherwise it's probably 5-6yrs

I somewhat agree, but you also have to look at the players.  Once potential sales dictates that one of the big players (not a niche player like Leica) push the platform forward, lenses will come fairly rapidly.  If Canon or Nikon jumps on the FF mirrorless bandwagon, the 3rd party lens makers won't be far behind.  Lenses are slow going in the mirrorless market right now because DSLR and DSLR lens sales are still what keeps the lights on.

There's currently no need to aggressively produce a ton of mirrorless lenses.  That would change quickly of one of those companies managed to produce a high demand FF mirrorless.  I agree it could be 5-6 years before they were ubiquitous but alot sooner for a fairly complete kit with the exception of superteles which I think will always remain a niche.

I'd love for Canon to do this, but the first company to pull it off with decent (no need for pro-level) autofocus will get my money.  My eventual goal is a relatively compact FF mirrorless for general all-round shooting combined with a 7D or 7DII for sports and action.  I think it would be the perfect combo.  :D

Will not on my shopping cart until I see FF sensor.

X2 but I'm afraid the chance of that in Canikon land is very, very slim.

I agree, neither company has any interest in pursuing a FF mirrorless.  I'm sure they see that as a quick way to kill off their lucrative FF DSLR and lens sales.  I'm thinking either Fujifilm or Sony will be the 1st to do it and I'm hoping it's done in 2013.  I think Sony put out a feeler with the RX-1 to gauge interest, but the first company to produce such a camera with an acceptable (doesn't need to be pro-level) af system will get my money and probably the money of many others looking for the same thing.  Buying all new compact lenses is a given....

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon EOS 7D Mark II Information [CR1]

Hard to believe that the 7DII will be more expensive than the 6D.

As per Canon's nomenclature, the 6D is a more premium model than the 7D.
So, unless Canon's marketing guys are out of wack, the 7DII won't be more expensive.

As I said in a previous post, I'm expecting that the 7DII price will remain the same as the 7D at introduction ($1699).
This is based on the expectation that the 7DII will be a warmed-over 7D but with a better sensor.

I could be wrong, of course, and the 7DII might get a price as high as the 6D.
Certainly not higher (again, unless Canon's marketing department has gone out of control).

I was told that there will be an superior AF system inside. Like the porfessional cameras use. And with an very fast picture tranfer rate. And that has it´s price.

The Canon product expert was very self confident that Canon will stay the best Camaera producer in the world. He said, that millions of sold cameras show that they meet the needs of the customers. And if I am dissatisfied, I can make a switch to another firm. That would no matter....

It would make sense that if Canon included a kit lens it would be the 15-85.  Subtract around $700 for that and you have a $2800 7D which would not surprise me in the least considering the MSRP on the 5DIII when it was released.

Naming convention aside, the 6D would NOT be a higher end camera than a 7DII.  The 6D is essentially a FF rebel and other than sensor size, even the existing 7D has a spec sheet that's light years ahead, not even in the same universe as far as features go.  The 7DII would obviously be the higher end camera, not sure how someone could think otherwise.

The only part of the story that doesn't sound right is a Canon rep telling someone that Canon will remain #1 and unsatisfied customers can go elsewhere.  A statement like that could have a huge impact on a Company's image if it got out and caught traction.  Any representative worth his or her paycheck would NEVER make such a statement and expect to remain employed, even if they were talking amongst "friendly" company.  Just doesn't make sense.

I need something, anything related to the new sensor!!!!  Somebody PLEASE leak something. :D

Do you guys really think a 7d mk2 is going to come out???
I don't want to give my hopes up but I would prefer if Canon bumped the price if it meant it would be a better camera.

well none of us know for certain, hence the name "canon rumors FORUM" :D

but considering the success enjoyed by the current 7D, it would be pretty foolhardy of Canon not to introduce an updated version to remain competitive.
