I'll get the 7DII to mess around with, but will wait for it to hit the Canon Refurb site during one of their sales! It will be sweet at 1200 ;)
No reason to preorder "new" technology before all the bugs are worked out!

Looks good for an aps-c camera. I never go above iso 800 on my 7D. This looks good up to 3200!

EOS Bodies / Re: How excited are you about the new 7D II?

Excited. Like the 5DIII, it has improvements in every area of the CAMERA. Sensor maniacs will complain about minor IQ improvements, but I buy a camera for more than one part.

Wait! Where is the 1D style top?????? That does it for me, I'm switching to Samsung.

Photography Technique / Re: POLL: Do you crop (and why)?

I don't crop when I shoot slides. Digital is easier to crop ;)

« on: September 11, 2014, 09:08:54 AM »
Nice!!! Why are people complaining that it is EF-S?! We already have a 40mm pancake for ff (if you want that normal view), and 24mm f/2.8 IS USM (if you want that 24mm). Chill.

Lenses / Re: Canon Price Drops on L Lenses
« on: September 02, 2014, 04:12:26 PM »
Come on people, these "price drops" are just pure marketing! Who here ever buys Canon lenses at full MSRP? Don't you all wait for those "deals" like instant rebates and mail in rebates?

The MSRP prices are always artificially high, so when they are lowered you feel all warm and fuzzy dropping 1600 on a new lens- but at least you "saved" 100 bucks!

The sky isn't falling. This has nothing to do with Sony's magical sensors, or Sigma's world beating lenses, or mirrorless taking over... It's just marketing.

The point of marketing to boost sales.

Lenses / Re: A New Pancake Lens? [CR1]

I wonder what the limits of a "pancake"'lens are. Could they make a 14mm or 85mm pancake?

Since Pentax can make a 70mm f2.4 Pancake and a really small 15mm f4.0 for APS-C, I think it is not completely impossible but the Limiteds are a bit pricy unlike the EF40.

I believe the pentax pancake lenses don't have AF motors built in to the lenses. They are screw drive from the camera. How much space does an AF motor take up?

I have no idea.

For all those not from USA/ NY: These shots are from Montauk, NY. This point is the eastern most point on LI (Long Island). A beautiful spot to stand and watch the sunrise.

How about a 35-70mm 1.8 APS-c to go with their sweet 18-35!!

EOS Bodies / Re: popup-flash - made a "pro feature"?

I've seen Joe McNally use a pop up flash as an optical trigger. He is a professional photographer. Cameras aren't professionals ;)

EOS Bodies / Re: Suggestions of a Canon MF announcement at Photokina!
« on: August 11, 2014, 03:38:51 PM »
I seriously doubt this rumor. Canon seems to be more about the evolution and merging of the "moving image" with stills photography. Their highest end professional products are in this area. Why go after a tiny "medium format" market? Medium format digital cameras aren't even medium format! This just sounds like sensor geek fantasy talk.
