Or they could play off of this style of camera with a modern take.

To me it's a bit crazy taking a bunch of lenses. I'd travel light and just go with the 24-70.

24mm is pretty wide. If for some reason it isn't wide enough for a certain shot, then you can stitch 2 images together.

70 is nice for the candids. Anything longer needed, you can always crop a bit.

The 5Diii's nice high ISO IQ will help for when you would NEED a faster prime.

Only carrying one lens will allow you to travel light, get creative, always keep your gear on you, never have to change lenses, never miss a moment, and the most important point- focus on enjoying your trip!

I'd suggest a 5D or a 5DII refurb and a 100mm f/2.8 macro.

The macro will allow you to basically have no MFD when shooting, so you can get super close for details like eyes and lips. The 85 & 135 while great lenses, will keep you at a distance and force you to crop more for those detail shots.

Like others have said, focus on photographing the light. Find good light first. Then put a subject in it.

I don't do a lot of Macro... but I use my 100 USM for beauty all the time

Great work!

My wife works for the skincare and cosmetics company KORRES, and they do a lot of their beauty and ingredients photography with the 100 macro.

I had the 100L first, traded it cause I didn't use it much. Then bought the 100 non-L on CL. I don't see a difference in IQ, they are both great! I use it for studio product photography so the weather sealing and IS are useless.

I also like using the 100 macro as a walk-around telephoto with basically no minimum focus distance. If I'm too close, well, I just get a detail shot- as opposed to no shot.

Lenses / Re: Good, inexpensive zoom lens? Beginner here.

If your primary focus is video, you should look into a few manual focus prime lenses. You can pick up beautiful Nikon manual glass for next to nothing. Add an adapter and you are good to go. Nikon AI-s lenses are great, E-Series are cheap as dirt.

Primes will help you become a better photographer, are more affordable and can offer you larger apertures (also good for video)

I don't know what advantage a cheap zoom gives you. The Canon Rebel 18-55 kit lens at least will give you a decent/ affordable wide angle lens.

Just my .02

This just smells like something for the mass consumer electronics market.

In that market Canon isn't late to the party. At my local Best Buy (in between Calumet, Adorama & B&H), there are no micro-4/3 cameras and barely even a Sony Nex presence. The Nikon-1 system has it's own freestanding display (just a big picture of Ashton Kutcher and a few pink plastic dummy cameras between the DLSRs & the point-and-shoots...go figure!

If Canon makes a reasonably affordable system camera that is smaller and cheaper that a DSLR, I'm sure they will have a hit. But it will need to have a "Send to Facebook" button!

I'll pass.

+1 for the Shorty Fourty! I just picked it up, because at 199.00, why not?

These $800+ non-L primes are a little crazy.

The old 24mm f/2.8 is an amazingly sharp lens, even on FF. Not sure why I would pay THAT much for an upgrade. USM & IS aren't really a priority at 24mm.

Not sure why the old lens doesn't get much love.

There are a lot of people on this forum with deep pockets, and fancy recommendations. I am jealous.

I'd recommend the old gem of a lens, the very affordable EF 35mm f/2. That lens is capable of beautiful images wide open. Especially on a 7D.

This is exciting news. It seems like I am in the minority here as I have no complaints and already love shooting with my 7D! More features for free? Ok, I'll take it :)

Also, why do people feel the need to upgrade camera bodies so frequently? I plan on shooting with my 7D & 5DII till they die. Digital cameras are finally good, the upgrades are pretty incremental now.

I'll spend my cash on glass!

EOS Bodies / Re: Announcement Day July 24, 2012? [CR2]

Isn't the mirrorless "ILC" category basically an evolution of the Point-and-shoot category? Why are so many people throwing around the "full frame" term in the same sentence, and making statements like, "FF or bust for me!", or,
"Another disappointment from Canon"....

Why will anyone be shocked or complain when it is not FF? Maybe there will be a "higher end" version too, but isn't one of those Ashton Kutcher mini fashion cameras also a "high-end" model???

Y'all new to relaxo.

And while I'm on a rant, why do people consider 35mm "full-frame" to be a "Pro" size? My EOS Rebel G is plastic all the way with 3 focusing points and a FULL FRAME image area!

FF is just another size, it ain't the holy grail.
