EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Canon Announces the Canon EOS 6D DSLR
« on: September 17, 2012, 08:15:09 AM »
A deal breaker for me is the lack of a proper thumb joystick in the upper back area- I like to change the focus point directly without taking my eye away from the viewfinder. The back looks like a 60D without the flippy screen!

Live View with a LCDVF or Z-Finder. This allows you to still have that 3rd point of contact (for handheld shooting) you normally lose with live view. It also allows you to see the screen outdoors while magnifying the screen significantly.

EOS Bodies / Re: Adorama is selling 5d3 for $2745 on eBay now

Looks like Adorama is clearing warehouse space for incoming stock of newer equipment.

I think it is also fair to say that the 5D3 is selling A LOT SLOWER than Adorama predicted.

I suppose the only remaining question is if Adorama is making a profit on $2745 or not.

But even if they aren't, this deal will really put the brakes on further 5D3 sales because everyone else that doesn't need a 5D3 will simply wait for other stores to have a sale like this.

Clearing stock for new cameras?! So now a camera's life cycle is a few months?!
That's absurd. Canon kept the price "high" on purpose. Early adopters, to create a demand, to sell more 5D2's, the price of the Yen, the price of rice , because they can, whatever the reason.... It's marketing. I'm sure Adorama is still making money, Canon is making money, whatever.

I have a hunch they kept the 5D3 price so high initially because they wanted to keep selling the 5D2. Remember the D700 was discontinued upon D800 arrival. This kept the 5D2 selling well due to the huge price gap.

So I'm going to assume the 5D2 will be discontinued very shortly and a new lower price model will be introduced. Canon was the first to sell a digital DSLR below 1k, now the can have the first FF below 2k!

Note: None of these statements have been researched or fact checked, so I reserve the right to be wildly off base on all claims.

I got my 5D2 for less than 1500- good prices come to those who don't pre-order! Stay a generation behind and you'll never have buyer's remorse :)

I'm not a "fanboy", I just like the ergonomics and overall controls on my Canon cameras. Never liked the "feel" of Nikon (besides my F3). I also like my Canon glass.

People need to chill on the spec sheets, test charts and a few dollar price difference here and there.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Magic Lantern Firmware - Good or Bad?
« on: September 12, 2012, 08:06:34 AM »
Can't you (or a Canon service center) reinstall the original software/firmware if something goes wrong?

It doesn't replace the Canon firmware. It runs alongside side it off of the CF card. It doesn't install anything "into" your camera, so shouldn't be a problem.

Lenses / Re: If you can have ONLY 3 lenses, what would they...???

Really enjoy mixing these 3 lenses on my 7D & 5DII:

24mm f/1.4 II
40mm f/2.8
135mm f/2

Wow at 23 you can afford some seriously sweet gear! What kind of (if any) discount do you get working in a camera store?

Jill-e makes a whole line of fashionable bags :)

My time is very valuable to me, so if a piece of new gear will allow me to spend less time in front of the computer, and more time with my family, it is definitely worth it.

EOS Bodies - For Video / Re: 50mm f/1.2L good for video?

Check out some of Philip Bloom's "People" videos. I think "Dublin's People", and "Sofia's People" were shot with that lens on 5DII's. Beautiful studies.

I have the most success shooting my speedlights with my camera on M. The shutter speed now really only affects the ambient light- which gives you a ton of creative control. The aperture/ ISO will affect the intensity of the flash.

I'd fix the slight lens distortion so the vertical lines aren't all wonky. Then tweak the crop. Finally, adding a little mid-tone contrast (to taste) can add a little more "pop" to the individuals. But that  is a taste issue.
