Lenses / Re: Did I get a bad copy of the EF-S 17-55 f2.8?
« on: September 11, 2013, 03:48:03 AM »
The 18-55 is pretty sharp already but does not have great contrast. The 17-55 is not particularly sharp near the borders at f/5.6 but it is worth the money, IMO.

The 17-55 has less DOF at the same f-stop, in my experience. Make sure you are comparing well focused parts of the image.

15-85 bad contrast...? Why...?

Lenses / Re: Why pick 70-200mm f/4l IS over 70-300mm f/4-5.6l IS?

just arrived my 70-200 f4 IS and it's amazing!
Easy to carry when traveling, sharp as hell, the best DOF i have ever seen. IS is amazing...!

wrong.. The DSLR fits with grip with no problems.
I was asking for any advices in order to optimize the space!

Thanks anyway!

Do you recommend lens filters?

Lenses / EOS - trip in the desert: dust
« on: July 02, 2013, 09:45:41 AM »
Hello everyone!
In September I am going to Fuerteventurafor a surf trip. Wind, sand (like the desert) and salt from the sea are the caracteristics of the environment and I am going to bring my 7D, 15-85 and 70-200 f4 is: all with protective filters.

Do I need to pay more attention? No lens change during wind on sand, OK... Anything else?

1. 15-85 IS USM
2.  50 1.4 canon

what can you put in that bag? any experience?
I can fill it with a 7D+BG and 15-85 attached, 50 1.8, bag with extra battery and CF, Flash and nothing more (except for the pocket).

How do you manage your bag space?

One thing not mentioned is lens flare.  I had a non-IS 70-200/4 for years, but could not shoot into the lght, especially with the sun in the frame, without having objectionable flare.

I don't have this problem with my 70-200mm f/4 ... perhaps your filter caused the flares (or the lack of one)?

While I keep filters on most of lenses most of the time, I remove them when shooting into the light.  Here is the best photo of a series shooting into the rising sun.  The subsequent photos when the sun rose further were unusable (and deleted).  This was 200mm @ 5.6 on a 5DII.

fantastc picture!
I don't use filters anymore... I had some good quality ones but I was never satisfied...
