There is no fixed ratio between MP and noise FFS, or between pixel density and noise either. You can't extrapolate 3 and 4 year old sensors.

Third Party Lenses (Sigma, Tamron, etc.) / Re: Sigma 50mm f/1.4

Also one of the few non-L lenses I own. Beats the Canon 50mm f/1.4 on 7D by my eyes. Lab tests may differ though. Only downside is that focus feels and sounds a little rough but it's not a significant problem.

EOS Bodies / Re: 3D (Again) & 5D Mark III (CR1)

I can't take any rumor seriously that projects a camera called a 3D...  unless its actually a 3d camera with two lenses.    would be like releasing a camcorder, with "HD" in the name, that only shoots standard definition

x 2. The whole talk of a 3D model drives me insane.

Try this. Not in production yet, but seems like a good solution. Thought of this thread the moment I saw it.

It's said that the 7Ds native ISO is in sets of 160 too. 160, 320, etc. Not 100% certain on that though.

i hope it is true, this sound more logical than 5d3 before 1ds3.
not that i am going to buy 1ds3, just too big for casual shooter.
also if it is true that it has very high MB. My computer is very fast, yet it does not work as fast as i would for 5d2  files, the computer industry have to improve their computer too. But i see little improvement over last 2 years.

Are you running 10,000 rpm HDDs in RAID 0+1? SSDrive for cached files? A well built PC from two years ago can open and process dozens of RAW files, never mind new PCs today.

I can't honestly see Canon releasing a product called '3D' because of it's obvious link to the other '3D.' Unless of course it is a 3D Camera, but I can't honestly see that happening either.

D90 has just been discontinued - fact to concider. If you were set on Nikon, try stretch the budget to a D7000?

EOS Bodies / EOS Branding in US/JPN
« on: May 08, 2011, 11:20:14 PM »
Not sure what the Americans and Japanese think - but being part of the market where Canon sell their DSLRs as EOS x[..]D across the board, I have to say I find the Rebel and Kiss brands a little stupid.

The consistent naming / branding scheme seems to just feel more complete. What are everyone else's thoughts? Are the Rebel and Kiss brands a positive or a negative for the cameras that receive that label?

Lenses / Re: EF 8-15 Fisheye Coming Soon?
« on: April 27, 2011, 04:48:18 AM »
Canon doesn't make many useless lenses but the fisheye lens really is. It is nothing but an expensive toy. I will never pretend to understand the appeal of this lens. It's much too wide and un-natural looking. Since the lens serves no practical purpose, I'd buy it if it were $200-$300 which is what it's worth anyway.

'LOL' of the year? God forbid someone wants to have fun with photography.
