EOS Bodies - For Stills / Setup AF for 1DX
« on: August 08, 2014, 04:57:57 AM »
[/size]Anyone has experience on how to set up AF for low light performing arts events such as dance shows? Used to perform like a beauty coupled with the 400 f/2.8 II or the 70-200 f/2.8 L II, but lately it has taken quite a drop in the amount of in focus shots I got, unsure whether it is due to a firmware upgrade. For sure my AF skills have remained the same, if not improved, after shooting around 50 shows in 3 years...

Street & City / Stockholm, Sweden
« on: April 29, 2013, 01:29:02 PM »
I should be visiting Stockholm mid-June and will have some free time outside of a conference to tour the city and photograph. Any particular sites to look forward to? I shoot mostly architecture and landscapes, particularly with long exposures processed in monochrome. Any help would be appreciated. Kind regards.

EOS Bodies / 1Ds III
« on: March 20, 2013, 03:21:54 PM »
I would like to sell my 1Ds III to scrounge up some much needed cash (getting married... and that is expensive!!). eBay will not let me sell since my seller rating is too low apparently... and Amazon not getting any chance either.
Anyone can suggest how I could go about it? It is still a pretty good body from Canon and I do not want to let it gathering dust there in the closet...

Third Party Manufacturers / Crazy... go Nikon?
« on: March 16, 2013, 10:05:58 AM »
Call me mad... but cameras are a tool and the eye is all important.

I make the most photographically via my landscape and fine art prints, and I also cover events and photojournalism.

Up till recently I used a 1Ds III and a 24 mm TS-E II for the first and a 1DX with a 70-200 mm and a 400 mm f/2.8 I IS L for the second. Although quite happy with the TS-E II and the 1DX, I am feeling quite a bit let down by the 1Ds III. Files simply are not up to scratch compared to a 1DX.

Now a crazy thought entered my mind... how about going dark, and selling part of the gear to reinvest in a D800E (!!) and the fabled 14-24 mm, since I do most of my work on the landscape side?

The 400 mm f/2.8 has already been sold, at a profit. The fisheye, 135 f/2, 100 mm macro, 50 mm 1.2 might consider selling, keeping the 70-200 mm and the tilt shift.

Does playing both systems make sense? Canon have no higher resolution sensor, and the Nikkor ultrawide is a renowned lens. Now Canon might be considering a higher MP body at some point, but it is still total vaporware.

Lenses / Nikon 14-24 Novoflex adapter
« on: March 08, 2013, 12:53:29 PM »
Does anyone have any experience with the fabled Nikon 14-24 via a Novoflex adapter onto a Canon body? I know Lee and Fotodiox have a filter holder system for the lens, but I think there is a lack of high density ND filters for long exposure work...

Software & Accessories / Square 100 x 100 mm ND filters
« on: January 24, 2013, 11:06:31 AM »
Owning a Lee Big Stopper, I would like to stack more 100 x 100 mm filters to get even less light filtering through. Anyone can elucidate me on what options exist for 6 stop filters, only proviso they have to be square 100 x 100 mm to fit the Lee filter holder system.

EOS Bodies / Older Canon cameras
« on: January 17, 2013, 01:40:49 AM »
Anyone have experience with vintage Canon camera bodies from the late seventies early eighties era? Have a person trying to sell me a Canon A-1, Canon EX Auto and Canon T-50, all with respective lenses and in working condition film cameras, although he says some have fungus! Is their total worth worth the 200 euro asking price for all three of them seeing they will need cleaning?

EOS Bodies / 5D3 vs 1DsIII
« on: January 14, 2013, 04:02:13 PM »
If you had to choose between the 5D3 and the 1DsIII, seeing as the 1DsIII second hand is close to the 5D Mark III price point, what would be the best option. The scenario involves me needing a second body for architecture and landscape work, for the sports and wildlife I am quite content with the 1DX.

Software & Accessories / Any experience with Gura Gear bags?
« on: September 28, 2012, 04:40:12 PM »
Anyone has any experience with Gura Gear bags? Was planning on getting one to carry gear, mainly two 1D bodies, a 400 mm f/2.8, a 70-200 mm, a TS, a fisheye, macro and 135 f/2, together with filters. The new Bataflae bags seem durable enough, although the price leaves a lot to be desired...

Lenses / Lens choice for concert
« on: September 13, 2012, 02:29:07 PM »
Will be shooting at a rock/orchestra concert in 2 days time, besides the 1DX in spot metering mode, what lens choice should I go for? I was going for 70-200 f/2.8, 8-15 mm fisheye and 24 mm TS-E for creative shots. Would there be a particular need for the 400 mm for close tight shots of performers?

Lenses / Carl Zeiss 50 mm f/1.4
« on: August 10, 2012, 04:10:34 AM »
Have had this lens for less than 6 months, and although I love its build quality, contrast and sharpness, I have barely any use for a nifty fifty for frequent use. Tried to sell it over eBay and locally (Malta) but with no success. Any idea where I can sell this little beauty, preferably in the European Union.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / 1DX silent mode?
« on: July 13, 2012, 03:14:36 PM »
Does the 1DX have a silent shutter shooting mode similar to that implemented on the 5D III? Well, not completely silent that is. Although if you want to use silent mode with a big spanking 1D body pointed at someone during street shooting, no amount of silent shooting will cover what you are doing pointing such a tank at someone IMHO!

Sports / Waterpolo
« on: July 11, 2012, 06:10:16 AM »
Hi to all

Will start shooting swimming events, mainly trials and waterpolo, any tips on where best to stand pool side? Have 70-200 and 400 mm f/2.8, should cover the range required nicely.

Lenses / Filters for TS lenses
« on: July 05, 2012, 03:53:41 PM »
Anyone have any idea if ND or full grad filters would fit on a TS-E 24 mm f/2.5 L II in view of the lens design? Hitech, Lee, Cokin, Singh Ray?

Lenses / 400 mm f/2.8 L Mk I
« on: July 01, 2012, 05:16:13 PM »
Would like to enquire whether a 5 year old 400 mm f/2.8 L make I (not II) which is in excellent condition is a good deal at 4000 euro, and what is its performance with a 2x TC III on a 1DX, whether images are still sharp.
