EOS Bodies - For Stills / 1DX silent mode?
« on: July 13, 2012, 03:14:36 PM »
Does the 1DX have a silent shutter shooting mode similar to that implemented on the 5D III? Well, not completely silent that is. Although if you want to use silent mode with a big spanking 1D body pointed at someone during street shooting, no amount of silent shooting will cover what you are doing pointing such a tank at someone IMHO!

2000 eur 2 years ago, and will never regret it. I still kept the 135 mm f/2 though. Bokeh, sharpness of both is outstanding.

Not really, no. They are called pro bodies for a reason, and Canon knows it.

Thanks for all the advice.

It's a brilliant lens but I am not sure landscape shots would be suitable for its niche market, after all the distortion is quite noticeable, even at 15 mm. A TS-E lens would probably be a better landscape lens, but manual focus only, more expensive and a has a steeper learning curve.

Hi to all

Will start shooting swimming events, mainly trials and waterpolo, any tips on where best to stand pool side? Have 70-200 and 400 mm f/2.8, should cover the range required nicely.

I have a 1D X on preorder, need it mostly for sports and wildlife. Canon kindly provided me with a 5D Mark III till my 1DX preorder is fulfilled, after testing the 5DIII extensively, I can say I am impressed. Impressive ISO performance and IQ quality, 6 fps is enough for most types of photography and the body is well built. But for my needs, the 1DX is a better fit.

Actually considering a Gitzo monopod with a RRS MH01 head, but as I asked, is it actually possible to put a Wimberley on a monopod?

Would it be doable to actually put a Wimberley on a monopod? Sounds strange to me but the thought arose.

Thank you neuroanatomist for quick reply... any of those filters available for sale through some retailer in the EU? Oh... and leave the glia and the Purkinje in peace!  ;D

Anyone have any idea if ND or full grad filters would fit on a TS-E 24 mm f/2.5 L II in view of the lens design? Hitech, Lee, Cokin, Singh Ray?

100 mm f/2.8 L IS. Simply a beauty of a lens, both for macro and as a portrait prime. Bokeh master me calls it!

Why not go for a 400 mm f/2.8 L IS prime? Their price should come down now that version II is out, and the 200-400 will cost way more, and can one really comment on its IQ and sharpness prior to anyone ever seen or tested on in the wild? If it has the image quality of the 70-200 mm f/2.8 II then it would be a stunner of a lens, but at what price?

I was recently stuck in the same conundrum, until I found a second hand 400 for sale, pristine condition, tried it on a 1D-X (including with a 2x TC III) and was blown away.

Start to ponder the D800, then I look at the 400 mm f/2.8 glass sitting on my desk and I smile and all black thoughts evaporate  ;D
