Its been a common issue with Airbus aircraft, where the computers override the pilots.  Some have crashed due to this, but the design philosophy continues.  The systems are so complex that no pilot can know what a computer might do next.

A difference of design philosophy between Boeing and Airbus.

to my understand via reading this story, this is a user's error... not sure about commercial aircraft but, i would guess that "auto pilot" will probably be disabled/removed when weight on wheel (aka landing gear down and locked)

note:  landing gear down and locked does not imply that aircraft is on the ground, but weight on wheel does...

well... suggest to return the camera if he does not feel like that he should spend $1K on this.  i spent about 1.2K on this camera last year (a month after i started to learn and decided to dig more in photography).

1. noise level increase at linear (not sure how he comes up with this, scientific measurement?).  yes, i do care about noise level, but i do not care really much about chromatic noise, but color noise.  he can buy t4i or t5i, it is of course cheaper and will outcomes better noise level comparing to 7d, imo.

2. buffer... comparing to his 1D?  come on...
    a. it is 1d series.  canon always allow more power on this series
    b. how many 1d megapixel?  11.4
    c. how big buffer that he wants?

3. video (no comment since i do not do video)
4. he can hide those autofocus points away as if he does not need to see them.

buying and using camera with knowledges, not sitting there and complain about it.  if not being happy, return it.  i actually use my 30d and 7d more often than my 5d mark iii.  why is that? simply because i am not satisfy with that i have learned.  i want to see how far i push myself with shooting in low light with old camera...

do not care how good iso that you have, if subject is not illuminated, then flash ought to be used to outcomes a better image quality if trying to perform a portrait shoot.  for street, do not care much about quality... care more about capturing moments.  i was one of those who refuse to use flash before and have to admit that using flash in the right way is not easy at all.

below is an example of using canon 30d | 50mm f/1.4 and shooting my mess in low light that (recently shot) while i was trying to learn and understand more about on camera direct flash, yes direct flash no bounce (note:  nailed this image with one shot after calculating based on my method of using flash, a little bit slow but fun.  this image is straight out of camera, nothing modify or on camera preset.  neutral/faithfull picture style if anyone would like to know.)  and keep in mind that quality of this image is facebook's image quality

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Need help with basic settings for 60D

You're having problems with exposure compensation. The two bars moving in opposite directions is exposure bracketing. There should be another control for exposure compensation. Also, you may want to turn off bracketing for the time being by merging the two bars back together.

+1... sound like this is the problem if op was using av mode or tv mode but this is not the case.  he was using manual mode.

try this with manual mode if op still want to use that mode... careless about violating shutter as blurry image since this is just a test.  point entire frame to a blank white piece of paper (white piece of paper must be full expose to light, not under op's table or bed LOL), change the meter until +2.  exposure is now set.  op can now try to take an image anywhere in his room as long as it has kinda same lighting condition (not under the table or, under a bed, or even at a light).  try to take a test image and let us know what happen.

note:  do not move frame out of white piece of paper during the time of changing the meter, yet op's shadow should not be included in the white piece of paper.

..asked them for the Teffen filter.  The rep came back with a Genus GL GNDF 77mm and said, ‘This is better’.

Maybe the sales person meant 'better for me because I have stock that I need to offload'.

Having said that, the Genus isn't bad, the Tiffen is just a little better.

+1 on Dave video and also IMO, you can go wrong with Bryan Peterson suggestion on Tiffen filter

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Center and Spot Focusing

I'm not an expert in shooting "aircraft and auto-racing photography", but when my kids start running at the beach or chasing balls, I have hard time using center AF. Therefore, shooting with 4-8pts expansion mode, case 2 on my 5D III is quite easy.

+1 on case 2... as if op has question about case 2 on 7d, i would think that -1 on ai servo tracking sensitivity might be equivalent to case 2 on 5d mark iii.  as if i am wrong... feel free to correct since i can not find any reference of this...

Hi. In your opinion are the focus cluster points worth 400 Euro more on the 7D? This is a near 4 year old camera to be replaced soon. I know that the 60 is also on it's way out but I was thinking of putting the 400 Euro towards some more L glass. Decisions decisions  :)

the answer would be NO... i rather spend my time having fun with practicing on nailing focus than spending $400 euro more :) just like i canceled my ordered on two softboxes from paul c. buff and ordered two fotodiox ez pro. softboxes yesterday to save over $100 (moving on to learn strobist).  i do not do sport or bird photography, but i have spent lots of time in practicing on how to focus since i love taking candid images.  you can do one point focus on bird photography as if you do it right (note:  think about how famous photographers did it in the past without those advance auto focusing points... if they could do it, i do not see why we can't right.)

note:  shot with canon 7d, 70-200 IS II, one point auto focus (center if you would like to know), one shot mode (no bust).  and this was the time that i have ever shot bird (hanging out with friends) since starting using dslr.

disclaim:  i am not a professional photographer.  i am just a technical guy who loves photography...

well...

1. do i have 9 focus points camera:  yes, i do.  it is my 30d
2. do i have a camera which has more than 9 focus points:  yes, i do.  they are my 7d and 5d mark iii
3. do i use all those available focus points:  no, i do not.  i prefer to use any focus points that is falling on power points or horizon unless i am shooting group of people, crop, etc...

with 9 focus points, every single time i put my camera up to my face and ready to shoot... focus point is always selected prior to that point (think about composition, make decision and select focus before shoot...)  more focus points do help sometimes but it does slow down my moves, IMO

for sport or bird photography, yes it does help since you hare cluster focus points...  as your case, i would prefer 7d over 60d since it does offer cluster focus points, which does offer more helps to aircraft and auto-racing photography...

EOS Bodies / Re: Digitalrev speculates on D7100 vs. 7D2
« on: May 29, 2013, 11:08:58 AM »
I'll put my 25cents on the line that 7D II will not out perform 5D III in high ISO/low light.

OK, outperforming might be a stretch. But being quite close is not unrealistic ... at all.

If you compare Nikon's D7100 with the 5DII (not III) on DxO, you will see that they are very close in every measurement.
The 7DII needs to be only slightly better than the D7100 and it will be in 5DII territory wrt image quality - which in turn is quite close to the 5DIII.

And honestly, if the 7DII is not at least slightly better than the D7100 in image quality, Canon shouldn't bother with an update, thank you very much 8).

according to what i have known, iso improvement only about a stop or less on every single time new canon release a new model (i am talking about raw file, not jpeg file)

I thought we could  discuss the pros and cons of our canon cameras.
If a chart explains how the  sensor development has been the past 10 years , is that not  interesting to know?
We have  different views on what might be interesting or not and both are we using Canon.

well.. the chart explains whatever in the past 10 years, but comparing your photography techiques that you have earned for more than 30 years but shooting like CRAP... would i believe WHAT YOU HAVE BEEN SAYING IN HERE, THIS FORUM? NO...  in addition, changing gears is not a good choice... improving techniques and skills are good choices...

your more than 30 years of techniques to me is nothing... to me... after 6 months of holding a camera, i am shooting much much better than you from composition to exposure...

Software & Accessories / Re: Screen protector question
« on: May 24, 2013, 02:45:07 AM »
well...  i guess that i can say that i am cheaper than anyone else in this threat.  i bought xtreme guard film to cut it myself since i have seen that my friend bought one from germany and it was not cheap, but only good for large screen... the small one popped out right after he put it on.  mine stays on, nice and fit pretty well but have to say that i do not like it as the one that i bought it for my 7d (pre-cut from ebay).

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Why is my 5D3 so noisy???
« on: May 24, 2013, 02:32:38 AM »
in addition to ETTR, suggest not take an image with hands pointing to camera lens (especially when you are closing to subject), unless you mean to make a story out of it... with any camera, you will have noise even with iso of 100, no exception...

my 2 cents...

note:  i am waiting for new 50mm with IS  :P
