EOS Bodies / Re: Is Canon EOS-1S the Name? [CR1]

Super expensive elephant camera (1D class).

Looks like the ones of us waiting for a "Canon D800" can just forget our hopes and dreams for now.  :-\
Give it a rest.  You're not the target market for this camera so Canon doesn't care what you think of the size or anything else about the body for that matter.

I think we're all aware of that. But I think, too, that Canon is leaving a lot of money on the table by not producing a direct D800 competitor.

If they stick 24MP or more in the second gen, I'll be interested. Would work well for my solar system imaging. The less weight you have to hang off the focuser, the better.

PowerShot Cameras / Re: Canon PowerShot G15

so nikon guys get a D600 this week and we a G15...mhm.. i hope there is more coming :)

We get nothing :), just the picture. Nikon guys got their D600 picture a long time ago.

Yeah, but they also got a picture of a $2100 price tag, which has got them all of a tizzy. Seems many of them actually believed they were getting a new full frame for $1500.

Really hope there is some truth to this rumor.  Have been holding off purchasing a Hasselblad in the hope Canon would come out with a large MP camera.  I waited and waited for the 1DS mk III sucessor only to find it was a lower resolution 1DX - very disappointing.  Hurry up Canon - it is about time you stopped loosing business to the medium format segment of the market.

It still wont rival the Hassy, which you should just buy.

Will this shoot 3D?

 ;D

Worth pointing out every time. Unless it does, it will *not* be called 3D.

Why would you spend that kind of money on a mirrorless camera?
The mirror, its inaccurate focusing plane and its slapping around are what prevents digital cameras from reaching the next level of resolution and accuracy. The 36 MP Nikon D600(E) is presently both camera of the year and Nikon's biggest headache. The era of the DSLR, the mechanical slapper box, is rapidly coming to a close.

Its end can't come soon enough.

No way that's going to happen, 7D would be better than 5D3 in specs but without FF sensor.
But if it so, definitely going to upgrade.

Well, the 7D was better than the 5D2 except for its sensor. No reason the 7D2 couldn't be better than the 5D3 in the same way.

I'm not sure if anything goes next to the 1DX on the right.

Look at the presentation - apart from the middle tier with 4 cameras, the 4 3 1 makes a pyramid.

If the 1DX was centered, it would ruin the entire aesthetic of the page.

The aesthetic is already ruined. If they want it to look pretty, they need to move it over to the right!

Or, release something for that gaping hole in the graphic.

Pricewatch Deals / Re: Canon EOS-1D X in Stock at Norman Camera
« on: July 30, 2012, 07:37:24 AM »
I was in Milford Photo in Milford CT on Saturday where they had two in stock. I was going to pick them both up - one for my nifty fifty; one for my Nikkor 24mm 1:2.8 with adapter - until I remembered how expensive divorces are.

(The bit about two in stock wasn't a joke)

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon EOS M Hands On Via Tech Radar
« on: July 23, 2012, 07:48:01 AM »
That Tech Radar video is lame. For people with their hands on the camera, they managed to learn very very little about it.

All their videos are super lame, they are the most soul destroyingly boring review videos ever made
i think if they got a corpse to perform the view it would be more animated and appealing.
I am not sure i've managed to make it past 30 seconds of listening to that womans voice before i cant take any more and turn it off.

at least fro and digital rev add some entertainment value into the mix with their reviews
cant wait for the digital rev review and a destruction test! ;)

I too hate boring videos that tell you nothing that the written review doesn't.  I'm waiting for the DigitalRev video to see how well it stands up to being set on fire and throw down steps, not to mention how 'bokehlicious' the 22mm f/2 STM lens is...  ;)

Me too. I like Kai. Sure, he seems to clown around but that makes his reviews entertaining and he is pretty good at finding real world advantages and disadvantages in each walkabout. Obviously, he's not going to go into every last technical detail, but there are plenty of other options out there if that's what you want.

And if that doesn't float your boat, you can just admire the amazing Hong Kong streets and pretty girls he shoots.

EOS Bodies / Re: Mirrorless Update - APS-C? [CR2]
« on: July 13, 2012, 07:58:58 AM »
BTW there will be no future P&S cameras, they will be replaced by smart phones :)

Maybe someday, when they get the basics, like a shutter release button, a zoom lens, and a tripod mount.

I think you're wrong. Most people don't care about the first two things, and the thought of buying a tripod would never even occur to them. I think fewer and fewer people are going to replace their P&S cameras. Isn't that why camera companies are making these larger sensor systems in the first place? To differentiate them from phone cams in a way that is not possible with P&Ss?

These sound very useful. I haven't done a firmware upgrade before. Are they difficult?

No. A firmware update is very simple. Go to Canon's website and download the new firmware to your computer, unzip the file and then copy the unzipped firmware patch to your SD/CF card and load it into your camera. The Canon website will give you detailed instructions on how to do this.

D

Awesome - thanks. That means I'll have to get a CF reader as I don't have one and usually download the pics direct from my camera.
