I send every body and every lens to Canon every year.

Pricewatch Deals / Re: Black friday - Canon rebates?

$2,100 isn't a bad price for that lens. Since it is a high-end lens, it likely will not be discounted for Black Friday. Your best bet I think is going to be get it before the Dec 1 rebates expire.

Call Canon. They are really great about sending out parts like that.

I remember back in the day when I was shooting Nikons. Once or twice I broke a hot shoe on a flash. The nikon part cost was outrageous. The same thing happened when I was shooting Canon's. I couldn't believe how cheap the part was.

Buy it with your American Express card. They will price protect you on it. That's what I did when my 300mm f/2.8L IS II dropped $50 at B&H and when my 5D3 dropped $505 at B&H.

I haven't been able to get it to work.

Does anyone know why Eye-Fi does not make a CF card?

It's not a 1Dx but makes a great second camera for me. I have found that my 1Dx is my go to camera for almost everything. Next is the 5D3. I haven't used my 7D since I got the 1Dx back in August.

Awesome photos Dave. I particularly like the last one. I have been all over the USA but never to the south of Utah. It's on my bucket list.

Well, this really sucks. I was just getting ready to buy a 135mm f/2.0L lens. B&H had it yesterday (10/30/12) for $879 with the rebate. Now WITH the rebate it is $989.

EOS Bodies / Re: Can you BACKDATE the 1DX firm ware VIA EOS UTILITY?
« on: October 22, 2012, 10:05:10 PM »
Back in May 2004 I bought two of the brand new 1D Mark II's. I did a firmware update that came out soon after I bought them. When I installed it on both cameras I discovered that the FireWire port didn't work. It was a bug in the new firmware. I couldn't go backwards and install the old firmware. I had to send both cameras back to Canon to go back to the old firmware.

I don't think that is something that Canon normally does, but luckily they admitted the problem and the only immediate solution was to go backwards.

I just bought the new 300mm f/2.8L IS II in July and it needed the firmware update. I am CPS Platinum. They emailed me a label for free FedEx Priority Overnight shipping. I shipped it Thursday last week. They received it on Friday, did the update, then shipped it back to me by FedEx Priority Overnight. I had it back on Monday.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: 1dx Shutter speed TV->M
« on: October 16, 2012, 11:25:23 AM »
If I am understanding you correctly. When you switch modes from Tv to M, the shutter speed you set in Tv will remain as it is when the mode is switched to M. That is normal.

Lenses / Re: DXO - lens reviews - 300mm f/2.8 IS II - that bad ???
« on: October 15, 2012, 08:43:12 AM »
I've been shooting professionally for 28 years now and the EF 300mm 2.8L IS II is the sharpest lens I have ever owned. I think even better than some of the Carl Zeiss lenses I had with my Hasselblad years ago.
