Third Party Manufacturers / Re: Is it hard not to buy 3rd party lenses now?
« on: December 26, 2012, 12:09:34 PM »
EVERY time I have bought a non-Canon (or non-Nikon back in my Nikon days) lens I have regretted it.  When I switched to Canon back in 2004 I got talked into buying Sigma lenses. I bought 7 Sigma lenses and regretted every one of them.

You might try squaretrade.com. I have used them for cell phone warranties before and they were great.

I had a Sigma 120-300. Not the current version, but the one before. I broke my vow to buy only Canon lenses. I wish I hadn't. I HATED that lens. It was sooooo slow at autofocusing. I eBay'ed it to some guy in South Africa and bought the Canon 300/2.8 IS II. I love the Canon. Maybe I'm just too picky about my glass, but I have regretted buying anything except Canon. That was my policy back in the days when I shot Nikons too.

Lenses / Re: 1Dx or lenses

I have both the 1Dx and the 5D3. The biggest difference between them in my opinion is speed. If you do sports stuff, get the 1Dx. If not, 5D3 is a great camera.

If it is a problem with the card, SanDisk is great about replacing them. I have owned about 50 SanDisk cards since 1999 and have had 2 of them go bad. SanDisk replaced them without question.

Pricewatch Deals / Re: Black friday - Canon rebates?
« on: November 17, 2012, 03:33:45 PM »
$2,100 isn't a bad price for that lens. Since it is a high-end lens, it likely will not be discounted for Black Friday. Your best bet I think is going to be get it before the Dec 1 rebates expire.

Call Canon. They are really great about sending out parts like that.

I remember back in the day when I was shooting Nikons. Once or twice I broke a hot shoe on a flash. The nikon part cost was outrageous. The same thing happened when I was shooting Canon's. I couldn't believe how cheap the part was.

Buy it with your American Express card. They will price protect you on it. That's what I did when my 300mm f/2.8L IS II dropped $50 at B&H and when my 5D3 dropped $505 at B&H.

I haven't been able to get it to work.

Does anyone know why Eye-Fi does not make a CF card?

It's not a 1Dx but makes a great second camera for me. I have found that my 1Dx is my go to camera for almost everything. Next is the 5D3. I haven't used my 7D since I got the 1Dx back in August.

Awesome photos Dave. I particularly like the last one. I have been all over the USA but never to the south of Utah. It's on my bucket list.

Well, this really sucks. I was just getting ready to buy a 135mm f/2.0L lens. B&H had it yesterday (10/30/12) for $879 with the rebate. Now WITH the rebate it is $989.
