EOS Bodies - For Video / Re: Inexpensive lens for Video
« on: November 30, 2012, 03:28:50 PM »
I know this will be against the grain as its eos bodies for video, but a used rx100 does pretty damn good video with af during video, tracking say a face and stabilization, small enough for her to always carry around & at a price point of around 500. im not familiar with camcorders though so I dont know how cheaper alternatives stack up against that but Id say there are far better options out there than using a dslr for this kind of thing.
If your wife is familiar with the camera, then ignore this but its pretty bulky to be operating a dslr's video at a whim if youve got kids or other things happening around you.

Pricewatch Deals / Re: Canon EOS-1D C Available for Preorder from B&H Photo

regardless of the fact that magic lantern guys(understandably) do not want to port the 1dc firmware to the 1dx, I still want to know if its possible and exactly if the internals are changed in any way from the 1dx's.  ;)

EOS Bodies / Re: First Round of EOS 7D Mark II Specs [CR1]

interesting. the channel info is stated on the bh store page(http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/892349-REG/Canon_8035b002_EOS_6D_Digital_Camera.html) so that sounds about right. single digic for the 7d2 and just a made up rumour.
from the B&H link:
"the DIGIC 5+ processor also delivers overall speed and power to the 6D and utilizes dual 4-channel A/D converter"

Looks like the same 8-channel setup to me. At the minimum, I'm betting on dual DIGIC 5 (non '+').

ha good catch! damn my skim reading

EOS Bodies - For Video / Re: 5D3 vs. BMC
« on: November 21, 2012, 04:00:22 PM »
I dont think canon are that behind, but they just chose to cripple the 5d's video in comparison to the c300/1dc and even 1dx, and it will come back to bite them as the bmc rolls into the market. also their pricing for their cinema line is exorbitantly high for most of those who bought into the 5d2 revolution

how much work do you think they are putting into this update? think we'll get any other unexpected bonus updates/improvements?

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: What do you Love about the 5D3? POLL!
« on: November 10, 2012, 06:37:16 PM »
I love that its the whole package, and it does almost everything extremely well.

The 5Dc is still better than any APS-c camera canon currently makes in the IQ department. If you can over look its limitations, you'll be rewarded with files that are very similar to film.

I was able to use all ISO speeds with good results, even ISO 3200 with some NR.

These are some examples

I think this is a fallacy, I bought an old 5d before jumping right to the 5d3 and it(5d) and my 7d were pretty much even in terms of image quality

EOS Bodies / Re: [Poll] Canon Reign Supreme Again?

i think the 6d will have a lot of traction among those new to dslrs in general, and I doubt the differences regarding sensors will have a whole lot of effect. I dont think either will destroy each other & both will do well.

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon 5D3 vs. Nikon D600
« on: September 29, 2012, 01:57:53 AM »
With so many topics on this here and at other forums, I set my pixel peeping skills to the test & took a look at image-resources raws of the sunlit setup with the mannequin.

To my surprise the d600 did have a visibly less amount of noise than the 5d3, really quite impressive. It did seem to overexpose the shots(not sure how that factors in), and all of them were slightly less sharp vs the 5d3 as well. I have to say though at the higher isos(12800,25600), the noise begins to get splotchier than the 5d3's and it loses alot of sharpness.
At the highest levels it looks a little like viewing an jpg vs a raw, in the sense that yes the d600 has less noise but it isnt the same fine grain as the 5d3's.

Canon General / Re: Loving Canon right now.
« on: September 18, 2012, 01:59:55 AM »
I think that integrated gps, wifi and touch are pretty innovative for a dslr, especially a pro level(whether you think it is or not, its at the xD level). It sounds like its the 5d3's sensor just with the 5d2 level features with some evolutionary upgrades. Wifi, gps both sound like nice additions in the same vein as the electronic level, handy to have. Touchscreen hmm meh to me.
I dont understand people wanting this to be cheaper regardless of those features, why would a company place it at the level of another one of its products, namely the 7d? If you mark that down, the 60d price point is threatened and so on and so on. They dont want their products to compete with each other, and it opens up the very likely possibility of successors for those as well. I did expect the af to be at to be all cross types like the t4i's so that part confuses me.

EOS Bodies / Re: *UPDATE* More Canon EOS 6D Specs Surface [CR1]
« on: September 12, 2012, 10:58:20 PM »
If I had a large sum of money, I would bet that it would not debut below $2k. The 5d2 is still at 2k at the online store, 7d is 1.5. The 6d is supposedly the best of both, its wishful thinking that its cheaper than both. I think the 2-2.5 range would be a safe entry for canon, lower and you cannibalize 5d3 sales, 7d, 5d(if it doesnt get discontinued), and might even encroach on the 60d kits/any successor to the 60d.

it definitely hasnt improved proportionally, but I doubt Id have the same interest/would try as much if I just had a p&s

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon 7D: Buy now or wait?
« on: September 10, 2012, 11:13:03 PM »
I just sold my refurb 7d from the loyalty program, it was a fantastic camera with no faults. But another option is to buy used, there are quite a few floating about which you can nab for about 900-1000
