EOS Bodies / Re: first pic of canon mirrorless?

Hmm, Canon's answer to the Oly OMD EM5?
Of course that's an image knocked up in Photoshop or Illustrator from the snapshots seen below it, well done too. Low res shots possibly real and taken with spy specs hence low res and poor quality.

Very tempting especially if they have kept to a Gxx type swivel screen. If they have then I'll have one despite the need to carry a small zoom in my bag as well. If they the swivel screen then it's possibly the death knell for the G series, if not then maybe we'll still see a G12 successor at Photokina??? Mind you if it's the same price as the Oly OMD then it's gonna work out expensive if one has to buy a zoom as well, whereas at least the Oly kit comes with a 17 - 100mm zoom for 1300€. Decisions, decisions!
Like has already been said it's going to be a long weekend.

well at least it´s no m43 sized sensor.

...

I wonder how you can say that when we don't even know the specs yet?

I handled an OMD EM5 today and sat the body next to my old G11 and have to say that with just a pancake lens I think I might have gone for it, it's actually smaller than a G11 but the size of the kit zoom just lets it's down -plus of course the body plus a pancake lens are going to cost 3x a G12!

What if Canon's entry into the mirrorless zone blows away the Oly m43? Will I be tempted* or still hang on for a G14 at Photokina?

*I hear the menu system on the OMD is a nightmare!

If the G14 doesnt come out at Photokina, I might go for either the G12 or that nice looking Sony RX100 even though it's a bit pricey. I am going to look at the New Oly OMD EM5 micro 4/3rds tomorrow but unless you pop a pancake lens on it it's going to be too big anyway and the kit lens makes it much too big in comparison with a Gxx type. Makes it a bit pricey too.

I'd still rather wait for a new G14, 24 to 110 zoom 2.8f or less. same size sensor as in the G1X. Digic 5 processor. megapixels like in earlier iterations more is not necessarily better so around the 16Mp mark but with better resolution. Bump up the ISO by all means but keep everything else the same. The G11 and 12 are great little cameras with the retractible lens and swivel screens, the G1X is an ugly bug anyway too big, too heavy and the S100 is too small to have a serious size sensor in it.

Not at any price!
I picked up one of these recently while on holiday and immediately discounted it as a replacement for my G11, it's too heavy and is not pocketable whilst my little G11 fits in my bum bag.

As to the announcement of a possible mirror-less on the 23rd of July I guess that's not going to suit my needs either as most comments make note of the fact that the only way to keep it small will be to use a pancake prime like with the Olympus OM-D EM5. If Canon do bring out a mirror-less camera I do hope they solve the problem of the ugly EVF hump which is a badly designed piece of kit on the Oly! No retro please, just look at the new Cyber-shot RX100 for beautiful clean lines like a Leica.

Let's wait and see and if it is a lot bigger than the G series then I'll just stick with my G11 until the next iteration of the G series (hopefully) comes along.
