PowerShot Cameras / Re: G15 Coming Soon...

Yeah; haven't heard of that one before.

Now the question is when is the official announcement?

Yup 13 is bad luck in the West and 14 bad luck in China.
14 bad luck in China? Maybe you mean 4?

Well I know that 4 and 9 are unlucky in Japan so maybe the person I quoted got it wrong?

Ah but how long might we have to wait for one? They announced the EOS M weeks ago and it wont be available until nearly the end of October! :(

You got your wish GMAN.  Canon G15.  F1.8 lens. :)  If they can make the fps around 5, it's perfect.

Surely with a digic 5 processor it should be around 10fps at least with jpegs, bit less with raw, depends if they kept the image size down to around 12-14 Mps?

It's G15! :) very nice fast lens.
and a digic 5 processor, just what was needed to speed up things, new sensor too, possibly CMOS?

... Anyway, I assume that the G15 will have a touch display (don't know if I like that) and it seems like the articulated screen is gone. Thus the body should be a bit thinner.

Why do you assume the articulated screen has gone, we have only seen one image so far, from the front and we dont know how accurate it is, we dont know how tightly extracted that image was from whatever original. I must admit though it does look kind of slimmer than a G12. If the screen has really gone then I will have to go too ... over to the Nikon P7700 I used my screen all the time, very useful, only rarely used a viewfinder.

As to the dials surely Canon wouldn't have made something worse than the G12, they must have come up with ways to make it easier to use? There's still the dial wheel on the front, now doubt programmable and hopefully the Fn buttons are still there but we wont know until we see official images front back top and sides.

Might be interesting to see this image and a similar angle G12 image to compare to see what's changed. If they have kept to a G12 chassis there's no reason why they would have ditched the articulated screen?

Hmph, a CR 0.5? How imminent? How good is the source?

Probably to be announced at the show for availability in November  :(
I want one and I want it now! Not some vague time in the future,
same size sensor but possibly CMOS, surely wont be priced higher than the G1X?

latest rumour found here on 'New camera' :

G13 coming soon, new sensor, new processor and fast ƒ1.8 lens.

VerysimpleJason
Thanks for the images, I think your reasoning is right, I have my Oly E410 with a Zuiko lens where I need high quality and no problems carrying a heavy lens, the body of the E410 is light. So the G11 should suit all my travel needs. (Unless of course the new G13 is just too good to be resisted :)

You make me wonder whether I need to change my G11 at all. Especially after Canon serviced it and checked focussing and replaced the faulty back. Maybe I just need to be more careful how I use scenes ie not at night and with macros to remember that autofocus seems to refuse to work on telefoto only on wide angle.

Barcelona, Genova, Sevile, and Florence Venice if you can put up with thousands of tourists dumped everyday by those obscene cruise liners. Of course one must not forget Rome and finally one's home neck of the woods, Lisbon and nearby Sintra.
Enjoy your trip.

Hmm, I am beginning to wonder about a G12+/ G12a/ G12x/ G13 /G14 announcement, even Apple with tight security get stuff leaked about new models of iPhone, iPads etc and here we are almost at Photokina and neery a word apart from a vague mention that the sensor might be the same size!

Either Canon have something great up their sleeves that they want to keep under wraps until the very last moment that's going to knock our socks off or there really is going to be nothing to talk about just some minor tweaks.

Monday 10th September one week to Photokina.

Thanks Mt Spokane, I think I am convinced.
If Canon pull the same trick as they did with the EOS M announced now available October, with the updated G12+ or G13 or 14 or whatever they call it, then I'll get a discounted G12. At least all the controls  will be familiar and I really dont need a super duper FF dslr or even a mirrorless for my 'umble pruposes. After all, how much better will the new Gnn be if as rumoured the sensor size will be the same? Will I notice the difference?

PS
Will I notice much difference between the G11 and the G12 anyway, all that worries me is low light performance for night shots around Kyoto next month?

EOS Bodies / Re: Announcements Before Photokina

Monday 10th September,

I am almost desperate for the next Powershot G model whether it has the same size sensor as rumoured or not surely it will have a digic 5 processor though and maybe a new lens.

However will the next PS Gxx be announced this/next week but only available in time for xmas like the EOS M and if that is the case, do I buy a G12 instead at the now heavily discounted prices or take a chance and try to buy the new Nikon P7700 which is an unknown quantity so far and if it's not immediately available in Europe what chances of getting one in Japan in October?
